A plane crashed on a farm in the middle of Outback Queensland. Panic stricken, the local Police mobilized and descended on the farm in force. When they got there, the aircraft was totally destroyed with only a burned hull left smoldering in a tree line that bordered the farm. The Sergeant and his men entered the smoking mess but could find no remains of anyone. They spotted the farmer mustering cattle not too far away as if nothing had happened. They hurried over to the man's Horse. "Gordon," the police Sergeant yelled, panting and out of breath. "Did you see this terrible plane accident happen?" "Yeah. Sure did," the farmer mumbled unconcerned, getting off the Horse. "Do you realize that is the Prime Ministers Jet ?" " Sure do." "Were there any survivors?" "Naah. They's all got killed straight out," the farmer answered. "I buried them all myself. Took me most of the morning." "Is the Prime minister dead?" the Sergreant asked. "Well," the farmer grumbled, . "He kept saying he wasn't but you know how that bastard lies."
Similar experience here. Heart attack at work in 2009, revived multiple times in ambu & ER, no memory of anything between going unconscious and waking 4 days later in ICU. Same feeling of nothing, no light no darkness just nothing. Though I should mention that as an atheist that is what I expected anyway.....
Judo here, perfect geek sport, highly technical and develops great physical control. The full contact nature of Judo also ensures an effective self defense tool, not to mention practical, fun training sessions. I also add regular resistance training and some weekend cycling but the Judo is what I enjoy most.
That was my first thought, how can you discuss Science Fiction ray guns without mentioning E.E. Doc. Smith ? Those Lensmen had a ray/beam/field/etc for every eventuality. I still enjoy pulling his books out every coupla years.
Sure there could be more than one. The problems start when exclusive deals are made. Let's say for example that Skype were to make some sort of deal with Apple that excluded Android phones from decent support or your local telco makes a deal with Microsoft and supports certain network features on Windows 7 phones only. Multiple smartphone platforms would be great if corporations didn't view it as an opportunity to be dicks.
He no longer has what he paid for and Sony are responsible. They should have at least provided a method of restoring the functionality to how it was. I must admit I'm surprised the ACCC took that stance, I'd really like to see more details.

Works for me, unit is small enough to carry with a screen big enough for me to read. Stanza works well enough and I also have music, movies, games etc.
If you want a real writing skill that is of some use, learn shorthand.
Hear. Hear. I really wish my school had taught shorthand instead of cursive. I'm 45 and I can say that cursive has been useless to me while shorthand would have been a very, very useful skill.
Though I think these days the time would be better served teaching touch typing while kids are young enough to absorb it thoroughly, maybe with shorthand as an option in high school.

Bad Astronomy says "it's jumping the gun to call it an impact event before we get more observations". I've got an idea for the next Slashdot article: "Asteroid heading towards earth - or maybe just spot on lense".
So your saying he's Zaphod Beeblebrox ?

Crap, he was given a choice of "lose Linux" or "lose future features". The missing choice is refund.

That's just the kangaroos.
And if you try it in Australia the locals turn up with a bag of sausages and some paper plates.

A significant question here: If it wasn't Microsoft, would anyone be nearly as angry?
Apples & oranges, only MS has the desktop monopoly to make this work.
And the lack of an uninstall makes it malicious by my standards.
Australia has a constitution, it's a Bill of Rights we are missing.
