I recall some canadian guy at a seminar explaining that a UI should have no more than 5 options at one time as this was the lowest common denominator (7 +- 2) for recall. He had some really interesting comments ( read abuse ) about the Win interface.
My story is pretty much the same as others here. I found school horrific. At 15 I left school and joined the Navy (Australia). School was worse than the Navy !
If someone tried violence as a solution in the navy, unless they had a bloody good reason, they would suffer for it.
At school ?, getting beat up makes YOU the trouble maker.
SAP is not currently supporting Linux.Check your facts.
This is from OSS (SAP Online Support System).
"Perhaps these preconditions will be realised in the future. Today Linux R/3 has the status "Research" for SAP and we apologize for only providing you with single "unsupported" components on our sapserv machines."
I believe the official release is scheduled for 2nd or 3rd Qtr 99.
Another interesting quote from the support note:
"We are really interested in the extremely fast Linux development and some people within SAP are strongly supporting the acceptance of Linux as official R/3 platform."
Also, whilst stupid, some posts are just plain fun to read. When your stuck at work, writing yet another "Trial Vender/Customer/etc Account Balance" report for users that are more interested in cosmetics than data, some of the cleverer stupid/silly posts can give you your only laugh in the day.

Remember the anti-OSS article?..

Say, you don't remember that quote by R.A.H. about feeding inconsistant data to surveys ,questionairs etc ? The idea was to make the data collected on you so incoherent that it was useless. Of course that won't work with what M$ is doing, but is fun nonetheless.
hmmm.
Didn't the Wright brothers base their work on Hargraves work (an Australian).
The light globe was perfected by Edison, not sure
who invented it.
Radio & TV ? &deity knows. That one is well argued
and I still don't know.
More games, hurrah.
This is gonna make it easier to convince friends to try Linux.
I bet C.M.O.T. Dibbler would would have the Ankh-Morporkian spam market cornered.
That agrees with what I remember.

I agree. And so did Einstein...
"Nationalism is an infantile sickness, the measles of the human race." - Albert Einstein
Reminds me of a SF short story in Analog.
The protanganist (a programmer) used to take a small chainsaw to meetings, when suits made idiotic remarks, he would start it meaningfully.
I always thought that programmers died by being hit by buses. Most places I have worked seemed concerned about that in particular ;)
Do you consider your cdrom drive eating an AOL disk a problem ?
:)
If it were my cdrom, I would be proud of it
Didn't they help destroy Opendoc.
Go!Zilla is crazy !.
Displaying banner ads is one thing.
Displaying banner ads on a piece of software
that spends most of it's working time minimized,
well I don't get it.

:)
Neither could I , until I read the manual that is
Yep, and even Twain attributed it to Disraely.
I agree.

I agree,that approach should work
