first as someone else also pointed out, 990 million dollars isn't alot in gov'nt dollars.
second and more important is the source of this money, its essentially coming from fees from the ftc operating companies that is supposed to be used for ftc related stuff. Congress itself probably wastes alot more of non-earmarketed money on donuts and parking...
"How record Companies hurt Weird Al". If any one is screwing over artists its the Record companies. They've done this with every new format. There was a rather large junk of change that had to be kicked back when cds first came out for new format costs or some such nonsense. That they incidently charged their customers as well (and were successfully sued for when it became less of an r&d fee and institutionalized price fixing for cds).
I paid once for taxes that created the internet and supported most of the phone system infrastructure.
I paid again for phone service and use of the lines.
I paid again for all the people who can't afford access to the lines.
I paid again for dsl.
I paid again for the USF (which gets paid to Verizon so that they can pay themselves for using there own lines, which I already paid to use twice.)
Yet the oposition to this bill wants me to think that someone needs to pay for al this service they're providing.
I'm generaly against government regulation, but something isn't right here. It makes me glad we also paid all that money to brake up AT&T in the first place.
Mobile phones will never become viable media players.
Cell phone companies want you to buy over the air. They also see nothing wrong with charging you about $2.50 for 10 seconds of a song as a ringtone and probably at least $3.50 for a full song (including air charge). Do the math on how much time/money it will take to fill 30 Gigs.
Nokia, Samsung, Motorola and Sony Ericsson will bend over backwards to meet the cell companies needs whether it creates a good product or not. Just as Sony can never created a good mp3 player until it was too late to matter because the media portion of Sony wouldn't let the hardware portion do what it needed to do to make a decent product.
Mini Disc would have ruled the earth if you didn't have to deal with all that atrac bs (like recording in realtime).
While cards are nice and compact, USB/Firewire are fast enough now to be able to do anything that pc. Granted they're good for adding things like wireless to old computers but I don't think the cardbus will be the bottleneck for sometime, so why get rid of the old standard.
Why don't they just try to make USB 3.0 the end all be all of interfaces and have 1 type of port.
Maybe this is more of a pc problem. I just finally used my card slot on my powerbook (for wireless) last month, and if I bought any new mac this would be unnecessary.
So if someone steals my car even if it was unlocked and the keys were in the ignition and then hits someone would any jury ever think i was responsible?
Taking the Evil Dead Scenario, shouldn't have JP3 been a near paraody of the first 2 (that would have been much better... ie this is my boomstick).
They did that thing long before scream.
Thi first JP was based on the novel with several major changes most confined to turning a literary ending into a movie ending.
The Second JP was a bad screen play attempt that tried to be a sequel to the movie and the first book (ala 2010 what planet are orbiting).
The Third I believe is a chance to use all the cool ideas that were in the books but missing from the first 2 films.
N.B.: unless you're an executive.
Every company will offer relocation to the top suits.

Let me get this straight:

This just seems really useless to me.
