Moreover, Blu-Ray *was* cracked. The updated BD+ is taking some time, but once they figure out how to emulate the virtual machine better, it will again fall. The downfall of Blu Ray is built in - accurately emulate an official virtual machine, and the disc will decrypt itself for playback.
The studios'll keep breaking the virtual machine emulator, and the emulator will keep improving... until eventually the emulator is good enough that it simply doesn't break. Then I can actually start buying the Blu-ray movies instead of getting ripped copies of them, as they'll work in my media center box. Though I will say that it is amusing watching the movie studios fighting this hard and spending so much capital, all to prevent me from giving them money.
If you don't like Bush, GET THE FUCK OUT OF AMERICA!
I anxiously await the departure from our shores of every single person who said the above, now that most of them are hysterically going after the sitting, properly elected President with every bit of preposterous garbage they can pull out of their asses. Seriously, by your own definition, you hate America; please leave immediately. The grown-ups have important stuff to do and your tantrums have grown annoying. Don't make us spank you and send you to bed without your dinner.
Harry Reid is going to review something carefully! I wondered what it would take, as countless violations of the US Constitution, the Geneva Convention, and human decency weren't sufficient. Now I know: you have to threaten a microscopic portion of Las Vegas's profits.
VLC does something similar - try playing something that's stored on a mounted HFS volume using VLC for Linux and brace yourself for two scoops of fail. The difference is that VLC's fail is apparently a bug in the HFS drivers that the VLC developers refuse to work around, where much of what's wrong with Amarok 2 is wholly intentional.
Does it support Xinerama with hardware acceleration? If not, there's no possible selling point compared to my $500 Dell laptop whatsoever (Intel video card).
An X driver with lots of rough edges and lots of hoops to jump through? This is different than my Dell laptop with Intel graphics running Linux how, exactly?
This institutionalized cowardice shows itself in other ways. People who refuse to fly after 9/11, even though it's arguably safer than before. Not because of the new 'security' measures
Actually, the new "security" measures put into place after 9/11 are exactly why I refuse to fly these days.
Dual-layer blanks have crappy compatibility with many stand-alone players. A shrunk DVD might lose a bit of quality when it's compressed down to one-layer size, but it least it can generally be depended on to play. DL blanks, not so much.
The big media companies had over 8 years to start throwing hardball questions at ol W, their failure to do so has rendered them useless in my eyes & in the eyes of many Americans.
This.
Fuck 'em, they had their chance to demonstrate their usefulness to the country... and they betrayed us. Let them die.
I've missed the WaPo and the NYT since they turned into eviscerated shadows of their former selves - no future tense is required to describe a done deed.
That there was a second term of the Bush administration at all is a quite damning indictment of the "serious" mainstream media outlets like the Post and the Times. If that's the level of journalism we can expect from these outfits in the 21st century, then fuck 'em.
IMO they want to milk their existing network rather than upgrade to todays standards of data transfer (illegal or not) and a cap does that with the guise of "piracy is an issue" in addition it wouldn't surprise me a bit if the RIAA and MPAA had a hand in this as it benefits them as well.
It's Time Warner Cable, a company whose corporate siblings include charter members of both organizations. There's no question that the RIAA and MPAA are involved with this.
I thought it was THIS FILM IS NOT YET RATED, a documentary about the laughable hypocrisy of the MPAA ratings board, that the MPAA got busted making illegal copies of.
This is so true - though the overlap between "stuff that the studios simply aren't releasing" and "foreign films" is considerable, with a third category of "foreign films hacked to ribbons by American studios" also applicable.
Good riddance to a disgraceful company. Let's not forget how they fired all their highest-paid, most experienced employees and allowed them to re-apply for minimum wage positions. After they pulled that stunt I never spent another penny there, going way out of my way to go to Best Buy instead when I needed to purchase something from that sort of store and didn't have the time luxury of getting it from the internet. Don't misunderstand: Best Buy sucks too, but at least they're not Circuit City.
I don't know how this keeps getting repeated. The media has been much easier on Palin than they were on Obama or even his wife. Not so much an anti Obama thing either it was that they got lambasted for going off into the trivial.
How long did they go on about "why doesn't he wear a flag pin?" Is your memory so short that you can't remember from two months ago?
McCain crying that the media hates him doesn't make it so. If he didn't want a media frenzy then he shouldn't have picked a complete unknown as his VP.
If a political party's going to bash people for not wearing a stupid fucking flag pin, they better make goddamn sure their candidate wears one too. He didn't wear one at the convention, and he hasn't worn one in either debate. Why does John McCain hate America?
Not PC based hardware, but I have the Malata 996, one of the first DVD players to do a good job converting PAL to NTSC, which was famously prone to capacitor explosions - my player was no exception. I say I "have" it because these explosions occured two months before the warranty ran out. It was returned to me with visibly larger capacitors than the ones which had exploded, and it has been an unkillable disc playing behemoth ever since.
Eh? We don't HAVE TV licenses in the US. And in most places, when Cable TV first came through the cable companies made sure to see if you wanted to get rid of that "unsightly" antenna up on the roof. For reasons that I'm certain had nothing whatsoever to do with preventing people from dropping Cable TV somewhere down the line and reconnecting the rooftop antenna.
If you want the truth, most of the time all you have to do is follow the money.
Until that money goes somewhere uncomfortable for people to think about, at which point you are suddenly transformed from intrepid, honorable investigator into a "craaaaaazy conspiracy nut". Funny how that works.
Mod parent insightful.

the 1952 version of the Day the Earth Stood Still. All movies I have no intention of watching. Lucky me!
Did I mention that I don't own a Blu-Ray player? Nor will I ever, because I Just Don't Give A Crap about that much "quality".
Your loss. Good luck with the War on Quality, though. That ought to go well.
Fine, you pricks. We'll stop providing you with free exposure for your shitty music. Happy now?

Amarok 2 is like watching a loved one die.
Oh right, it was shit.
(another!) workstation for under $200 or so.

Are kids dumber now that they ever were?
Yes. And getting dumber. (Though this might vary by locality.)

It would be nice if this guy were to be beat over the head with wrongful and malicious prosecutions.
Or a bat.

Oh, God. If McDonald's ever sells Hammers, I won't know who to root against!
STOP!
you know the next line
