the transformed insects have mouths that resemble male mosquito mouths. That means they can't bite and so can't spread the malaria parasite.
Oh, sweet. So we aren't going to try and get rid of mosquitos completely, just make it so they won't bite people anymore.
That seems like a much better approach than wiping them off the face of the planet.
In addition, the insects' reproductive organs are deformed, which means they can't lay eggs. As more and more female mosquitoes inherit two copies of the modification, more and more become sterile.
158 Corporations and $21 Million shouldn't be a surprise. It's the status quo for US politics.
SOPA is just one of the many pieces of legislation being bought and paid for by corporations. So after you write your senators and representatives, go to http://movetoamend.org/ and sign the petition to end corporate personhood!
This is actually what I do. From my domain, all my email is automatically forwarded to my gmail account. Using gmail > settings > accounts, I've added the appropriate addresses and selected "Reply from the same address the message was sent to". It works wonderfully!
is not considered feature complete or mature at the present time You want them to keep using it though, so you might not want it to sound like they're going to be unhappy with the product.
I think I actually helped the movie industry though. Every time I liked a movie I watched before it was actually released, I would talk it up. Hell, I think I sent enough people to the movie theaters in the last year that Hollywood should actually pay me for advertising.
I for one wouldn't want to pay for "High Speed Internet" that advertises 8 Mbps "with an extra burst of speed up to 12 Mbps when you're downloading large files like videos and games" (taken directly from a price quote on comcast.com) only to find that when I download those large files, the 12Mbps ends up being 3Mbps.
die before they are able to breed if they are not supplied with a crucial antibiotic And who or what exactly is supplying the "crucial antibiotic"? Are they planning on blanketing swamps with antibiotics?
And, DRM free music doesn't mean that it's being given away for free. It just means that once bought, people can listen to THEIR music freely. Removing DRM from music essentially makes it more valuable (which is why iTunes decided to charge more for it than music with DRM) and will improve profits of music without DRM.
The question waiting to be answered is whether or not DRM free music will encourage/facilitate more "illegal" file sharing. My guess is that the affect will be minimal and the appreciation towards the music industry for not tying up purchased music will only increase online sales.
Since acid tests how web browsers deal with faulty code, and IE8 only passes acid3 if the developer includes a specific meta tag. So how likely is that the developers who are creating faulty code and not testing it will actually know to include the meta tag?
There must be a major drawback of using the acid3 compliant mode that we don't know about yet.
They all suck but competition is good. This will hopefully help to lower prices for the slower speeds and encourage other companies to seek out similar advances.
Wouldn't it be great to see a speed war the likes of the AMD/Intel processor competition? Unlikely, but it would be great!
I think it makes some sense, try thinking of it as "breaking rules". Google has a set of rules about proper search engine optimization. Some of these rules might not be well documented but people generally know when they're trying to get around them or cheat them.
Any success in breaking Google's rules could result in increased profits from a higher pagerank giving the rule breaker a sense that it pays to cheat. So why not cheat somewhere else with another set of breakable rules? Taxes? Mortgages?
Once oil is gone from drilling reserves, it's gone. It takes a very long time for oil to form. We're talking about a scale in the millions of years! Not exactly renewable.
And likewise by saying "the executives at GM are participating in the collaborative website" must mean the executives' names and possibly signatures will be appended to some brainstormed over goop of corporate media speak.
If "the universe is a giant virtual reality simulation", then this virtual reality must have been created somewhere, let's call it "the real universe".. but wait, what if that real universe is just a virtual reality simulation.. and on and on and on..
I wonder how many of those students will end up working on the other side once they graduate. It would be kind of like a hacker working for a security company. They'll be more familiar with the strengths and weaknesses of all the arguments and could demand premium salaries in this area of law.
Maybe blue M&M's just don't look like food. What in their normal diet or environments is blue? I'm not a biologist, but red and green seem to be more natural colors of edible plants.

so if it's nmod, hosted on google, what's the bandwidth concern for?

Yeah, I'm wondering how heavy the weights are, would grandma be able to use it?

Sounds like very misleading advertising to me.
That would take millions of years though.
Hmm, is there any coincidence that the name of new the species resembles "Texan"?

I for one will never buy music with DRM.

USB 3.0, now with as many contacts as serial ports!

A little off topic, but with how linux friendly slashdot is, I wonder what percentage of users read slashdot on linux machines.

just an old idea with a simple scifi twist

There was a discussion about firefox and explorer security that this topic reminded me of.
Well, if anything, it's a great promotion for Benjamin Schweighart's business.
