the way that CUDA deals with thread death in the current iterations is lacking. if they make that more graceful, you can really expect to see some insane speedups.
So, I'm cited in this book for my work on the parallel prefix sum implementation they used. I later went on to rework an MPEG4 encoder for CUDA acceleration. So, to answer your question about using CUDA in these projects: it does offer a speed up, specifically of motion estimation, where most of encoding spends its time. Also, a lot of that speed up comes from exploiting the G80's memory architecture, which I do not believe you can do using GLSL. The problem ends up being that you need a G80, you need NVIDIA's drivers, and you need NVIDIA's compiler.
Are you kidding? The problem was that compilers didn't completely take advantage of it! Where did you get the idea that you can't optimize at compile time?
Because they co-developed the Itanium with Intel. It didn't make sense for them to push their old architecture when they spent a bunch of money to develop a new one for the same market segment. That's why.
The real problem with the Itanium is that it came out a few years too late and the x86 emulation hardware was designed to be on par with the chips that were going to come out at the scheduled release time.
I started reading the article and I felt like this could be really insightful, and then it ended.
I'm glad these projects are merging since eye candy (done properly) is definitely something that can stand to make Linux a player in the desktop market. We'll be able to say to people who catch a glimpse "oh, you can't install that, you don't run Linux".
Not only that but all the linguistics tools I've found for OOo are terrible. Linguistics is something that OOo should really invest their time in, esp since the OpenSource movement stands to grab a lot of marketshare in non-English speaking countries. In MS Word it generally figures out what language I'm writing in.
Oh, yeah, they should also make a workalike version for most of the world that's accustomed to the Word/Excel etc interfaces... and make the load time not suck OOTB.
Yes, about 7 years ago, maybe more (years, not times). I got an open box printer there for $20, the thing still prints great and takes inkjet refills. This was before you could get printers FAR and such. This was also when you walked uphill both ways to wherever you were going.
The GUI will take care of everything on DDWRT. The wiki at www.dd-wrt.com is very helpful. If you have trouble following it, you probably should rethink messing with your router.

You should have kept the ones from the mid to late eighties, it's the same stories with the same names!
On top of the inherent evil of mobile phones, there's the evil that is ".002 cents" Verizon http://science.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=06/12/09/0625245
I hope these talks do not come to a partnership of any kind.

I think this: http://www.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/game/46872 2.html might be what you're looking for. I take no responsibility for your lack of productivity at work.
Personally, I always preferred Day of the Tentacle

My roommate had him as a professor last semester. According to him, it's the latter.
Isn't "installing a laptop" just plugging in the power supply / battery?

In Canada just pay .02 cents per kB. What a great deal!

I was about to ask if my roommate and I were the only ones. Guess not. It would go well with a "know your roots" shirt or something.
Yeah, they're just in charge of the executive branch....
I'm pretty sure that this is just as bad since we see these people putting words in the mouths of and censoring federally funded scientists.

I know this will get modded down. But seeing this makes me so damn happy.
Thank you for your time.
Very interesting. I didn't know anything about... well... any of this. Has this been covered on /. before?
I'll probably switch my routers over to one of the open firmwares. Someone mod parent up.
