Seriously, if there was a Windows version, I could replace the crappy Windows shell with it. I still need Windows for certain critical applications like Rollercoaster Tycoon and Battlezone. Losing the Windows shell (and I.E of course) would reduce the attack surface area somewhat and maybe allow me to connect to the Internet occasionally with it.
By slowly replacing Windows components with Linux ones (OOO, Firefox, KDE), it makes it much easier to convert someone to Linux later.
It used to be called Firebird (at about version 0.7). I wish they had kept that name. Back then, they didn't have a logo, so I used a picture of the car launching on a quarter mile run for my icon. I wish they had kept that name.
I got the Masterpieces of Infocom from E-bay for about $200, near mint. The first thing I did was copy all of the.dat story files, the PDF manuals from the CD to my Ubuntu box, downloaded all of the manuals and images from nfocom.elsewhere.org and installed xzip from the repositories. I am thinking of adding some GUI functionality to the xzip engine, similar to Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy.
Since when is Ubuntu a "downgrade"? BTW, my Dell Ubuntu laptop also came with a Vista "already installed on your computer" DVD along with the expected Ubuntu CD. I wonder if that counts as one of Vista's "installations"? Does any one need an unused Vista DVD? For sale on E-Bay *cheap*
"I speak of none but the computer that is to come after me. A computer hows merest operational parameters I am not worthy to calculate - and yet, I will design it for you. A computer of such infinite and subtle complexity that organic life itself shall form part of its operational matrix. And I shall name it also unto you. And it shall be called... the Earth."
Deployed overseas in the late '80s, I brought my C-64. It literally ran 24 hours A day, Gunship and Defender of the Crown. We worked shifts and hot-bunked the system, I.E when I got off to start my shift, one of my roommates would get on to start playing. People even played it when I slept. Nothing like dodging ZSU-23 flak at 50 feet while launching Hellfires at a squad of T-72 tanks.
My sister was in Desert Storm. An original Gameboy was very well used.
Yes, US troops are some of the biggest gamers, especially those deployed overseas.
True, adding all of the bumpers, side-impact airbags, traction control to make it a good (and legal) car would make it a very bad airplane. However, there is another road-worthy vehicle that is very light, can only carry one passenger, and offers almost no crash protection. It is called a motorcycle.
If you thought (and regulated) it as a motorcycle on the road, and as a sports plane in the air, it might work. Remember, the road portion is only to get you to and from the airport. You are not going to be commuting in city traffic every day.
A better market segment than the typical "I want to get to Denver faster" business travel would be the boating crowd. Combined with heavy restriction of flying over populated areas, a person with $30k to spend on a good boat might by one of these to go the the ski resort/lake, etc
If I had a choice between a boat and one of these bad-boys, I would be a be getting my wings. Of course, my wife doesn't even let me have a Harley, so I doubt she would let me have one of these...:)
For Linux, just play the video and look in/tmp for Flashxxx files before you close Firefox. In Windows, it is probably also in %TEMP%, but is probably xxxx.flv.
I don't know. I have Call of Duty and Williams Pinball for the Wii. I am also eagerly waiting NHL 2008. My kids have about 10 games. Not bad for about 4 months with the system.
I bought a cheap $100 bike which I keep at the office and ride around the city to do errands during the day. It has probably already paid for itself in gas, not mention easier parking.:)
Developing an assembler supporting the complete 6502 instruction set including address labels, and a simple EDLIN style text editor for the source, all in C64 basic. Just because I couldn't afford the Macro Assembler cartridge. Best $30 I didn't spend.
In the mid '80s, we had a color ink jet printer that could produce transparencies at work. Back then, ink jet printers were very new and expensive (they didn't have laser printers yet), and this one required a ton of maintenance. My first major project in my career involved creating a lot of these color transparencies for the colonel. It had something called "print head maintenance liquid" and cost about $30/quart. I bet my boss $1 it was plain water, and won the bet by drinking the "print head maintenance liquid". I do have to admit that I already knew since I got some in my eyes and it didn't sting or anything. The things you do when you are 19...
I just got a Dell Ubuntu laptop. Along with the expected Ubuntu CD was a DVD for Vista Home premium: "Already installed on your computer". Yeah, right. I wonder if it counts as a Vista sell. Anyway, does anyone need a Dell Vista Home Premium DVD? For sale on ebay *cheap*
If you have Linux, goto http://www.cnr.com. In addition to the usual Linux games for Linspire/Ubuntu, they have a ton of links to Linux friendly web games. One of my girls favourites is http://www.clubpenguin.com, which ironically does not have anything to do with Linux, but runs fine on it.
I just finished reading Dilbert before going to/. I never *actually* go to the website. I just have the.gif files emailed from comics.com. Of course, I have a special folder where I save the.gif files. I have the last 4 years on my hard drive. I even get the DNRC newsletter emailed too.

15. Anthing requiring a 1GB patch to get the installer to work
16. Any children's game which requires the CD to run
Putting double quotes around them will work too. Almost as intuitive as vi. I just figured out the quote trick a few days ago, and I have been trying to get this to work for years. Frustrated, I just *tried* it, and OMG it actually worked! Maybe someday, I will be able to enter an outline without Word scrambling my fonts at random intervals...
Sounds like Los Angeles. There, the lights are short, and there is no delay between green and red. Red light running is relatively rare. Here in DC, there are 3-5 minute lights, with a 5 second all red interval. Every day, I see about 5 cars enter the intersection after my light has already turned green. I guess those drivers are afraid of growing old and dying before the next green....
I have 3 Dells in my household, as well as a couple at work. I pretty much run on Dell everywhere. I am writing this on a Ubuntu Dell. I mean, their support is craptastic, like everyone elses. But I have been running Dell for 5 years and never had any failur#64vg
But does it run on Windows?

I had a coworker who did exactly this with another program. Worked just fine too....

Another dueling anecdote: about a year ago, I bought a Kodak Camera from Best Buy.
Windows:
Tired of this, I just plugged the same camera into my Linux box (then SUSE 10.0), more out of curiosity then actually *expecting* it to work:
Linux now manages my rapidly growing photo collection
This is the first time I saw a story posted on /. and www.thedailywtf.com at the same time!
The first thing I do when I set up a Windows box is make everyones home directory C:\home\%USERNAME%. Much easier after that.
