Nintendo has always made money on the hardware though, and still are with the Gamecube. They don't really care if they aren't #1 (like with the N64) - they still make loads of money.
No this isn't flamebait. Microsoft has a tough time breaking into a market so dominated by one console (PS2, out for a long time, many games) and where a lot of gamers (yeah, not kids - I'm 27) have nostalgic feelings for Nintendo and will buy their new console.
The Xbox is selling around 5k units a week in Japan (PS2 80k, GC 40k), 3k units a week in Australia (PS2 8k, GC not released) and no figures have been released for Europe. Last figures I saw for the american market was 28k for the Xbox (PS2 80k), and the Gamecube had 32k...
Sometimes I get unwanted email in my inbox. Sometimes people put unwanted ads under the windshield wipers of my card. Sometimes people send me unwanted ads as letters [bypassing the "no ads here" sticker on my front door.
We cheer people suing over case 1, but we do nothing about case 2 and 3.. correct?
I really don't see the difference. I throw unwanted ads away, I've always done. Hey, every once in a while it's actually something interesting too [although, most spam seem targeted at US citizens.. still waiting for a tire-company to offer their services to me here in southern Sweden through email]
That port was cancelled while I was working for Symbian. Sure, it's almost a year since I switched employer, but I haven't heard anything about a new port since...;)
What's wrong with ARM? Wonderful little chips, used in all possible places. This new AMD-chip runs MIPS instructions, and while the new JVM techniques from Sun (Monty) might be ported to MIPS also ARM dominates totally in the wireless world (which will replace PDAs)
Symbian OS runs exclusively on ARM processors, and with the backing of _everyone_ in the mobile industry, that's a momentum you can't ignore.
Oh, right. Intel has the XScale (next-gen StrongArm) so AMD has to fight back:/ Here we go again, although this time, they're not binary compatible!
... then have another look when Mario is released;) Nintendo care a lot more about making Mario games perfect than a "Luigi" game..
(I'm in Europe, I'm picking up my Gamecube on the day of the release, third of May, and none of the release-titles is a must-have. I will get the Star Wars game though because it's fantastic graphics at 60fps - something I know will be popular where I work;)
I get all my old posts moderated down -1 Offtopic whenever a certain person gains moderator status (or if he has multiple accounts, I don't know). See my history for proof. I also get numerous replies to my signature.
That's weird. It seems that USian Slashdot posters are like the rest of the american John Does - they actually believe that Israel is nice and that all arabs/muslims are terrorists. How come they're the only one with this view? How come there are daily protests in all big cities in Europe against Israeli warfare against Palestinians? How come food-chains in Norway are boycotting Israeli fruit because of this? How come myself - 27 year old white well-educated male with neither jews nor muslims as close friends give money to Palestinian help-organisation and actively in mail and in my Slashdot signature URGE people to actually learn the truth about the most serious conflict in the world themselves?
I don't know - but the last time this was brought up here at slashdot a USian slashdot poster told the moderators to mod myself and another poster down before we "strapped bombs to teenagers" or something as stupid.
Now, what was it you said again?
Remember: Nelson Mandela was marked as a terrorist by the South African leaders, and put in prison. All freedom-fighters have been called terrorists. If you'd care to read up on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict we might have chance to stop the US arms supply to Israel. Rockets against rocks, you know.
I'm curious - you have a signature on par with mine, do you also have people that mod your 5 latest postings -1 offtopic (no matter how on topic and modded up they are) whenever they get mod points?
I've had someone do that to me now for months, I'm quite impressed at how he/she keeps going.
(moderators, please, I did remove +1 bonus already;)
The only thing that would stop me from using it as my regular word processor is that I can't figure out how to make it use imperial units (inches) instead of metric.
Thank God - maybe we can get rid of 1 oz and 2.5 inches soon then.
Yeah there is a port (ghostscript) but after one failed try I didn't take the time to get it to work. What I mean is - no, there's no PDF support in Star Office. There is support for using a Postscript-converter, however.
You use a telecine machine, and you speed up 24fps to 25fps for PAL (that's what the studios do themselves). Tadaa.
Yeah, it's done as we speak, and has been done so for more than a year. First telecine I know of, "Go". The most famous telecine when it started, "Star Wars: TPM".
CSS was cracked before DeCSS - and without that unencrypted key. The algorithm had already been analyzed and found 2^16 "secure" - which isn't secure at all.

I was guessing before, now he confessed
Only in the US could translation from standard measurement units to outdated units not used ever in Science be considered "informative" ..

Huh? What Mario on what system was that? Super Mario Sunshine on the Gamecube isn't even finished, it _might_ be playable on E3 _this_ year ...
*g*

Although I would guess the two discs are 9Gb. 18Gb would involve flipping the disc, or (nonexistant?) auto-flippers like were available for laserdisc.
If you have a functioning PostScript for PDF converter already installed, according to the help.
