  1. What's this? on Linux Timeline By LWN and LJ · · Score: 1

The Google search engine pops up. Not only is it one of the best search engines around, but it's based on Linux and features a Linux-specific search page.
Forgive me if I'm unfamiliar with this, as I was busy begging for my first full-time position....but what's up with the Linux-specific search page? I'm assuming that means that a Linux-centric page popped up when Google detected a OS-TYPE that contained Linux?

I appreciate the mad dash for first post, but at least say something that's appropriate, like "MySQL would be better if it supported rollbacks and those sort of things". You know, something that makes sense.

What you refer to as stored procedures can be emulated with the greatest of ease in MySQL with a bit of Perl scripting and mod_perl. And as far as I know, stored procedures are currently on the to-do list for MySQL.

A 'troll' is a post designed to wind up other people and attract many replies for the sake of attracting many replies.

Pretty much sums up a post about Linux Zealotry being a mask for the fears of Linux users about their dying operating system on /. is just that.

P.S.-->Chiefly British variant of 'furor'. 'variant' implying that furore is a minority subset, and that furor is more widely used.

Would the response (sorry, furore) have been any different if this had been the opinion of a group of Windows admin / developers / users? I think not.

First, it's 'furor'. Second, that's my point...we as a community are biased towards our particular tech choices...that's what makes us a community.

I think the general ridiculous over-reaction to the story belies Linux users fears

Do they give you comp time over at Microsoft for trolling Slashdot? I'm just curious.

The difference is, we're the community (users, developers, administrators) and M$ is the source. A better analogy would be if Redhat put out an article detailing how Microsoft is failing as an operating system.
