  1. uh...what? on Flight Data Recorders, Decades Out of Date · · Score: 2, Interesting

...citing privacy concerns of the flight crew.

Not only are you on the job (which means your privacy is significantly reduced by default), you're job involves being responsible for hundreds of lives. I'm sorry that you're worried about people potentially overhearing you and the co-pilot talking about that hot piece of new flight attendant, but recording flight data is just a bit more important.

    Pompous assholes.

The approach to a filibuster is one of many reasons that I refuse to associate myself with any particular political party. Extend how filibusters are used to just about everything else on the political spectrum, and you have a fairly clear picture of modern politics.

Which is a real shame, because financially (just based on his employment record), the guy knows what he's doing. Being smart about money isn't the only requirement for being president though, so...

I think he'd make a good choice for Treasury Secretary or something like that...but I still can't believe he's considered by many to be the Republican front-runner for 2012.

I would normally agree with that, but in this instance the term "witch hunt" is commonly used to describe this period in comic (and law) history. The "some people" is referring to the culture in general.

If you're looking for a wikipedia-style source to be cited, open a phone book.

I love how some of the most outspoken people against video games (as well as comics, porno, etc) are often the same people who are against government expansion. Government intervention is always bad...unless it regulates something these people don't agree with.

I'm looking at you, Mitt Romney...amongst others.

    There were two:

The arcade at Dixie Landings in Walt Disney World. They had an entire wall that was nothing but pinball machines...at least 20-30 in a row. The second was at a place in Gaithersburg, MD that shut down about 12 years or so ago, called Sportland America. They too had an entire wall of just pinball machines, although they had closer to 40 or 50 of them.

Such good times. I miss pinball machines :(

You're right...our motivation is to give back to a community that has given us a hell of a lot (including something to bond over, which eventually led to us getting married.) We felt that we've been given far too much by nerd culture without giving anything in return.

Our motivation is nothing more than providing a free service...the same applies to the music I make, which, even if I end up selling one day, will still always be legally available for free.

I only post links to either my music or my website when it's pertinant to what's being discussed.

As far as linking to my site in my sig, again, I do it so more people are aware of a free resource. Like I said in a previous post, there isn't a single advertisement on our site, and nothing we review is given to us. We do it strictly to contribute to the culture...despite the fact that it costs us both time and money, it costs the public absolutely nothing.

Whether we get 10 visitors or 10,000, we make exactly $0 off of it.

Sadly, I actually had to throw out one of my Dying Fetus shirts last night :( It was the one with bin Laden on the back that said "One Shot, One Kill". I THINK it was for their "Stop at Nothing" album, but I'm not positive.

In addition to them, I've always been a big fan of groups like Dillinger Escape Plan, Exhumed, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Goatwhore, Emporer, Burning Inside, Viking Crown, Cryptopsy, Malevolent Creation, Bolt Thrower, Agathodaimon, Drak Tranquility, Dew Scented, Finntrollz, Callenish Circle, etc. I was HUGE into Death/Black metal back in the day, but not so much now...I've calmed down a lot :-) I still have my all-metal CD binder, though!

It's actually a great example of the Streisand effect...we've gotten over 500 visitors in a single day for only the fifth time since we started the site, and that number is steadily rising. Thanks, random AC who hates the fact that we contribute our time and money to nerd culture!

  21. Re:Can't remember who said it first on Developer Demands Pirate Bay Not Remove Torrent · · Score: 2, Interesting

Not really...I will always keep it available for free download. I do it to contribute to the ambient and drone communities, as a "thank you" for the hours of music that have been provided to me.

I'm much more concerned with people hearing it rather than paying for it.

  22. Re:Can't remember who said it first on Developer Demands Pirate Bay Not Remove Torrent · · Score: 1

It's not meant to be liked by everyone. The Ambient and Drone scenes are devoid of choice. There are some really amazing ambient and drone artists out there, but it's still a small scene. Much of what I've found has been through torrents, free downloads, or heard streaming on various Internet Radio stations. Often, there is no way (or it's very difficult) to find a way to purchase this stuff.

I wanted to contribute something to the scene, so I release all my music for free. It's not made for everyone to like it...it's made for people who enjoy ambient and drone.

Tell me...what do you do in your spare time to freely give back to the subcultures you enjoy?

    Two things.

    1. there is some truth to what the AC said. Most of the time, I try to post comments that contribute to the discussion or provide a perspective on the conversation no one else has mentioned yet...however, there are times where I do indeed post just for exposure.

    2. On my site, you will never find any form of advertising. My site is run completely out of pocket with zero intent on making a profit (or even making back the $15 a month hosting fee/yearly registration fee). It's something I do as a way of giving back to the community that has given me so much.

I'm just suprised the AC is offended by the fact that I donate time and money to the culture, and then try to make people aware it exists.
