This always kind of confused me. I could understand it if we were talking about older folks, but many people my age (mid 20's) and many people younger (i.e. people that never knew of a world without Internet) know about the privacy complications, yet still don't care, or post stuff on Facebook with reckless abandon.
I'm a frequent Facebook user (3-5 updates a day), but I never put anything on there I don't want the public to know. Like my parents taught me back in my IRC/ICQ/Yahoo Chat days: "If you don't want someone online to know something about you, just don't type it."
If we went that route, it would also be losers weepers...and you don't want Steve crying. It would likely be a substance similar to the acid blood inside a Xenomorph.
I think at this point, it would have to be...years of successfully controlling leaks, and then a prototype for the same product line gets leaked TWICE within weeks of each other? Yeah...I could believe the first one to be an honest mistake, but there is no way this one wasn't planned./tinfoil hat
I have played Dead Space (the beginning anyways), and it is not even comparable.
While I agree that Penumbra surpasses Dead Space's scare factor, you really should try going through the whole game. There are parts of Dead Space where I literally had to turn the game off.
Dead Space + 42" flatscreen + mid-range surround sound = change of underwear. ESPECIALLY the portions where you have to solve (simple) puzzles while shit that you can't kill is never more than five seconds away from you.
You have to remember though, EA has FAR more cash with which it can reach non-hardcore gamers (i.e. people that enjoy playing games, but aren't an active part of the culture and don't pay attention to independent games).
Honestly, do you think the average Gamestop-goer has even heard of all of these games, much less knew about the bundle? With some serious money behind a marketing campaign, something like this could have been far bigger.
Penumbra is pants-wetting scary. Seriously, if you don't play any other game offered in this bundle, check it out. It ranks up there with Dead Space, Clock Tower, Undying, Fatal Frame, and the other big boys.
In fact, if the circumstances and your attitude are right, I daresay it challenges the crown for scariest game series.

If I'm being a douche about something, yes, I do support laws that benefit someone else at my expense.
Sending Youtube and other websites takedown notices to remove five minute clips from movies (i.e. free advertising) is a douche move. Not allowing me to show a movie to my family because it has too many members and qualifies as a "public performance" is a douche move.
Laws protecting fair use are appropriate and needed.
I'm not surprised to see HP releasing something based on WebOS, but what do you all think the chances are of them taking WebOS and using it as a base to improve on, thereby creating their own version of it?

If we were all kind and caring, there'd be no need for money or property, people would just work because it's necessary for teh common good of the society. We'd work as much as reasonably possible, while being happy. Then, the results of all that work would be distributed among the people, in a optimal way.
And, as to feed the entire population would only need the work of a minority, the rest could center on science, to investigate how to propagate the human collective to the stars.
There's this little-known franchise that's really popular, I'm not sure if you've heard of it. They did exactly what you described though. Here, you should check it out.
Um the military only earning power is body bags of the enemy. Gezz man The military is for protecting our country and our way of life,there not a for profit company. I want our men and women to have every tool available to them,no mater the cost too protect our country and way of life.
The military itself may not be "for profit", but MANY of the companies that supply the military with equipment have ties to various politicians and/or political groups. Iraq/Afghanistan weren't wars for oil, they were wars for profit in general...just like every other war in history.
Much of the technology we are currently using (fighter planes, as an example) serve no purpose over in Iraq and Afghanistan. Bombers, sure...but planes designed for air-to-air combat? What, are they fighting the 47th Flying Sandies Brigade? Much of our military spending is still stuck in the Cold War. It needs to be drastically altered.
Like I said, it's hippie bullshit...but it is true. If you look at how much money the world collectively spends on trying to kill each other, we could instead SUPPORT each other many times over.
This is one of those "I know this will never happen, but this is how it should happen" kind of thoughts.

I completely agree...which is why my radio at work is always set to C-SPAN Radio (I work in Rockville, MD, about 40 minutes from DC, so I can pick up the non-HD terrestrial signal). The portions where they have people call in during the early morning and late afternoon shows suck, but it doesn't get more unbiased then a direct audio feed from Congress and the Senate:-)
This. It would be foolish to assume that the iPad hasn't affected netbook sales SOMEWHAT, and may be responsible for the slowdown...but that slowdown was coming anyway. The "saturated market" theory makes a lot of sense.
Still, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the people that bought an iPad originally intended to buy a netbook. That being said, even if every single iPad buyer had at one time been a potential netbook owner, that would account for a very small portion of overall netbook sales.

Pretty much. I played through MW2's single player campaign, and it was pretty good...but I haven't logged a single minute in multiplayer.
