| Please tell me you're kidding. Anyone suggesting MySql for real work should just be laughed at.
I'm not sure how you got modded to +5 with this statement, but your statement is uninformed and completely false. While MySQL isn't in the class of Oracle for HA, MySQL with InnoDB is damn well is a competent database and I don't just mean for LAMP.
Does Adobe employ the the worst programmers on the planet? Between Flash and Acrobat their critical bug count has to be racing up the charts of companies with the most critical bugs in their software.
Does AT&T realize that they too can get severely screwed without net neutrality? Verizon or any other provider can decide that they don't like AT&T network traffic and place it at the bottom of the priority list or not route any of their traffic at all. For the small guys, this could quickly become a death sentence.
Look at Cogent history of issues with other providers. (AOL, Level3, Sprint, etc) Cogent was under-cutting everyone on price, generating huge amounts of traffic that caused lopsided peering and some providers didn't like it. What happen? They started dropping any traffic coming from Cogent.
I think it's imperative that all network traffic flow freely with the exception in the case of gross abuse of resources.
Saw a review of it on Youtube. It looks like a piece of crap. It's a shame, I hope they come out with a quality one soon. With at least a Snapdragon CPU in it.
If you build walls everywhere, it will no longer be the Internet. The Internet is what it is today, because those walls only exist when entering private networks. Walling up all the thoroughfares will only damage what exist today.
The Internet is give and take. If everyone just wants to take, then it will fail.
This applies to most phones sold by carriers. Prior to purchasing my Nexus One I had a Blackberry (and the one before it) Both had lots of T-Mobile crap on them that I never used. The good thing about Blackberry though is it allowed me to "hide" any apps I didn't want to see.
I suppose in Android I just wouldn't put them on any of my multiple desktops and just leave them in the main app list. (if thats possible on those phones)
What Google has to learn is more basic than that. What Google fails to learn is if you're going to sell something to someone, they expect you to support it with a real person.
I have a Nexus One and I love the phone, but I hate every once of Google's piss poor attempt at supporting it. Asking other Nexus One owners for help is not my idea of company support.
Martin sounds angry. Suricata is new, I wouldn't expect it to blow away the competition at such an early stage. High speed/quality IDS/IPS isn't something that you can xerox off new competitors in 15 minutes. I suspect it's like Firefox's new scripting engine. It was initially slower than the old one, but with time it will overtake it.
Martin makes his money off Snort and doesn't want other free software encroaching on his livelihood. Well Martin, maybe you should put forth more effort into Snort rather than just resting on your laurels.
For some, it's too late. The iPhone 4 was released on June 7th. Apple didn't admit that a software patch wouldn't fix the iPhone until July 7th. You had 30 days to return the phone.
Lets face it, a lot of people love the iPhone enough to hold on and wait for this "software fix" that Jobs promised. Now, they are screwed.
So... I don't want to sound like an Apple fanboy, but nobody ever said that the Apple forums on Apple's website are a place of free speech, right? I haven't read the terms & conditions of course, but I'm pretty sure there is a clause allowing them to "moderate" according to whatever values they want. AFAIK, they don't censor all the forums on the web...
So how is this censorship?
I mean, it sounds reasonable to prevent my angry customers from displaying all their filth on the front of my shop doesn't it?
Also, I don't get the class actions lawsuits... You buy a product. It's crap. Now you sue the manufacturer? Where are we going with this? Can I sue the national lottery for not having won with the ticket they sold me?
In my world: You buy a product. It's crap. You get a refund and don't buy again from the company.
Maybe it's me....
You may not want to sound like a fanboy, but you are laying it on pretty thick.
They may have sold that many, but there aren't that many in use. I'm guessing somewhere near 25% of those 75 million (15-18 million) are out of use. (damaged or retired/upgraded)
Not that it matters really to the story, just making it know that the numbers are overstated.
Is it the Canopy Group or Microsoft? Hopefully they aren't selling the Unix copyrights or other things that will just start another lawsuit attacking Linux.
The xScope browser (my preferred browser on my Nexus One) has tabs. They float off the top of the screen. Just pull the screen down and they reappear and you can switch tabs.
I believe it. This is what Steve Jobs does and has always done.
He builds something great then ruins it with his extremely controlling flaky freakout attitude towards the world.
Nothing new here.

Wow. 3Par and now ArcSight? They are going to need to call a credit counseling company after this shopping binge! :D

You sign a non-compete agreement, then immediately sign up with one of the companies biggest competitors!
Either Hurd is actually a complete and utter moron or he has nads the size of Jupiter! I'm going with the latter.
I have a Nexus One and I don't have trouble with Flash. Obviously if you try to load a piss poor flash app, you get piss poor performance.
In my opinion this guy is nothing but a tool looking for page views on his media website.

In this case, I consider it a good thing.
This is stating the obvious. Not exactly sure why this is news.

The Gnome census report says Redhat represents 16% of all Gnome upstream contributions while Ubuntu contributes 1%.
http://www.neary-consulting.com/index.php/2010/07/29/gnome-census-report-now-available-as-free-download/
Thats fine as Ubuntu doesn't actually contribute much source code anyhow. It takes and takes, but returns very little.
Wrong, it should have the App and version. (Java: version#) and thats it.
It's companies needing to attach their name to everything (marketing) that causes the problem.
Redhat suffers from the same problem. It's why CentOS has /etc/redhat-release file. It should just be /etc/release for ALL OSes. (meaning Unix too)
If they did that, any app would know exactly what OS they were running on without multiple checks. Easy breezy.

Solaris isn't dead. Oracle said as much. It's OpenSolaris that has become roadkill via the Oracle purchase of Sun.

What happens next? Yep, lawsuit.

Maybe this is the reason BtrFS is maturing at a breakneck pace. :)

And proves that there's really nothing Flash can do that HTML 5 can't.
I agree with everything you said, except this last statement.
