Aye -- I think this has very little to do with an actual crime, and everything to do with Berlusconi not wanting videos of himself being smashed in the face with miniatures ending up online.
They either want Google to pull out or give the Italian PM the control he wants.
I think you're missing the analogy. Even with through millions of people into jail in real life (i.e., "banning" them), the streets are still filled with people.
Ah, I hate sticking up for MS, but it's true. Ubuntu 9.04 introduced this feature, too, I think -- I remember seeing a box pop up for it after installing on my 7-year-old laptop and going "wait a sec..."...and then realizing that, as far as the software was concerned, my 7-year-old battery with its 5-min lifespan probably has "failed" as a battery.:P
Oh -- I know it's beyond script kiddies, but still, saying that such an exploit isn't to be worried about because it requires "high-skill" -- what really dedicated, evil cracker _isn't_ "high-skill?"
"But the company said independent tests determined that the hack would require such a high skill level that there was a limited chance of it affecting many users."
If it'll help launch a new space race, I'm almost for letting them have it all.
I want to see the Chinese do something completely wild, like launch an 180-day orbit mission to Mars or something, completely blowing away anyone's expectations of what they're able to do, a la 2010.
Unions do not allow real competition, they are about equalizing the outcomes for the members, but not about improving the education for the students.
You're totally right -- life was so much better before there were things like unions.
Man, I tell you -- bring me back my 90-hour work week for $0.30 an hour. Made a man out of ya, I'll say.
Look, I see where you're coming from -- all institutions tend to become corrupt over time. However, that doesn't mean the nature of the institution is corrupt -- just the current people in charge of it.
Saying that unions themselves are the problem is dangerous. The idea of a union, at its core, is to give the workers a voice that can be heard by the company. Otherwise, the workers' wants and needs are completely ignored, as history has taught us.
$4k a year on interest for college debts? Jesus, it's called consolidation, use it. :p
Yeah, you'll be paying off the loans for the rest of your life, but seriously, at least I'm not eating just beans and rice every day.

What -- Android lets you actually do something with Bluetooth now? I need to get caught up. :P
Exactly. I don't know what the problem with all this is -- just code for the 1.5 API right now. Androids development tools make it easy.
You know, if the teabaggers were parenting this line, instead of just "UGH OOOGA GOVERNMENT BAD," I'd almost agree with them.
That's all well and good if you've got a good $15,000 a year (it can cost up to that for good independent coverage) spare to buy health insurance.
I imagine most normal middle class folk don't have that laying around.
I think you're missing the analogy. Even with through millions of people into jail in real life (i.e., "banning" them), the streets are still filled with people.
I want to work for a "laser company." Where do I sign up?
Masturbation. Obviously, the child was cheating on their Abstinence-Education class.
Seriously, this whole thing is sick.
Obviously not -- the petroleum industry has been telling us for decades now that hydrogen is an inefficient and unmarketable source of fuel.
Personally, I'm waiting around a few million years until our solar system passes through the 10W-40 nebula.
I believe that fuel source/supply is also a concern. :P
Hey -- they still made it there first. ;)
I'm pretty sure they already have them.
So do we, by the way. So does Russia. No one's nuked anyone else yet.
...I thought spies were supposed to understand that from the get-go?

You're kidding me, right?
If it'll help launch a new space race, I'm almost for letting them have it all.

That'll restart the space race.
Because after years in a Chinese prison, I doubt if any of our spies could even tie their shoes or make coherent thoughts anymore.
Fine -- "servers" then. Jeez.
Are they also going to block email, then? How about filefront and megaupload?
Because otherwise it's a hollow reason.
Not that any reason for censorship isn't hollow.
I wouldn't think so -- I always thought of Linus as a rather low-tech guy, at least in daily life.
We are talking about the guy who once said that Linux on anything other than big iron was stupid, right?

Ah -- I knew someone would come out and blame the Unions eventually. You were late!
Having spent some time proofreading papers for extra credit in high school, your post brings back horrible memories.
That was 15 years ago for me -- I cringe when I think of the crap that's probably passed in today.
