  1. Re:There are other ad-blockers on Will Mainstream Media Embrace Adblockers? · · Score: 1

True that. I haven't used Adblock in years since I found about NoScript.

The only problem with NoScript that I've found (I guess it's not really a problem) is that it's nearly impossible to teach someone how to use it if they're a novice computer user. No, it's completely impossible. AdBlock's more of a "set it and forget it" kind of thing, and I can understand how the novice would like such a thing.

Exactly -- on sites like Slashdot and Ajaxian, I never mind the ads. They're tasteful and usually directly-related to the field I'm reading about.

However, dancing fat ladies in an ad about home mortgages while I'm trying to read CNN.com? That's getting blocked.

If you're looking for absolute privacy, don't use the web. Otherwise, Incognito-mode is about as good as it gets (just remember to clear out your Flash cookies from time to time, the browser doesn't control those).

I really hate responding to a troll, but you need to do some serious research. The kind of viewpoint you hold is poisonous in its misunderstanding of rape.

Start your research with how "perceived shame frequently makes the victims of rape never report the crime."

It's not about the victim "wanting to suffer" -- it's about the victim being made to believe (by their attacker) that reporting the crime will lead to worse fate than the actual crime itself.

  9. Re:Is This Bus Syndrome? on CentOS Project Administrator Goes AWOL · · Score: 5, Insightful

I personally won't use software produced by projects like CentOS. My belief is that projects like CentOS are there because people want to skate on the backs of people and companies who have spent time and money making a good product, just because they don't want to pay for that hard work. I believe this is the flaw in the GNU license, and not open source in general. It is like stealing money from those who created the original work. Redhat spends a lot of money to develop their product, and others just copy it and give it away for free.

You do realize that technically Redhat is just skating by on the free give-aways of others, too, don't you?

I mean, as I understand the whole Linux thing. Feel free to correct me.
