It's a good comment, and I'm inclined to agree, but if that's the most profound thing you've ever read, I'd recommend you get reading. There's a whole world out there!

Father got a Macbook. Dual core jobby. Play videos full screen for too long and it'll switch off. That's after you've patched the fan controller to actually get the fans going when it heats up. Has had to be sent back once because the CPU cooked itself. Otherwise, it's a nifty little machine.
I've no idea about the heat put out by the PPC based Macs, but the Intel based ones can get pretty hot, it seems.

A software patent won't protect you against the grown ups, because if your program is non-trivial then, considering that these guys have thousands of patents of their own, and considering technologies implemented in software are incremental and not discrete, you will probably be infringing one of theirs. You can be forced to choose between a cross-licensing deal or years in court.

The result is, patent or no patent, if the big boys want to use your algorithm and compete with you, they will.

Does MySQL have named placeholders? I've only ever used it through PHP, and you need to use question marks if you wanna do that. I've never really bothered (not actually written anything I'd think to release yet in this arena) myself. A few days ago I and a friend had a go at writing a wrapper to handle named placeholders, but it was a pretty dirty hack (using preg_replace_callback and global variables ... uurrrgghh).
