I'm old enough to tell you that I had one such system! It used "dead recognition" and hooked into the odometer to do it's calculations. Worked pretty durn good!
My experience (75 yo, retired engineer) is that there is little left of "corporate loyalty." An engineer who STAYS at the same job for a long time is suspect when applying for a new job. Further, raises are usually meager and far-between, so for salary maximization, periodic job changes are mandatory. Now, with portable IRA's and 401-k's, pension loss is less of a problem.
One thing everyone else has missed, so far: your printer! Read the instructions for shipping! I didn't, and when I moved and opened the box with my printer, ink was EVERYWHERE!!! Wound up pitching the printer!
Yeah, but... The purpose of GM crops is to provide pesticide resistance!!! So, MORE pesticides will be used on these crops!!!
Just eat your Dieldrin laced peas!!!
I'd also stay clear of the United Way! I discovered that they had no clue as to where my AUTO-DEDUCTION was going! Add that to the their HIGH salaries, and there are two good reasons to go elsewhere!
Although previous comments are correct about identifying your location, down here in the Florida Keys I have DSL service through EarthLink at $39.95/month total bill, and ATT/Bellsouth for local phone only with Sprint for Long Distance.
I kinda like the "free with" concept, except... a PC, even a mini, is still a LOT more complicated than, say, a toaster! And something like THAT is what is really needed for people who just want to browse the Internet and do e-mail!
As a retired former software support engineer, it is painfully apparent that a Windows PC or even a MAC requires more tech savvy than your average consumer is ever going to possess! (Consider managing the backup process, for example.)
Am I missing something? Although I have Earthlink for my ISP, I don't use their software to access the Internet. I use whatever browser I feel like, and what ever e-mail program works for me (currently Outlook, although I have used Thunderbird!)
Let's see, a three-minute coast to a stoplight. What a concept. Obviously, the authors have never driven in a metropolotan area!!! If you spent even 15 SECONDS coasting to a stop, you'd probably be shot by another enraged driver!
Althought I run two small websites that don't get a high volume of traffic, Earthlink will alert me if my bandwidth is approaching max, and allow me to decide whether to block it or pay for more bandwidth.
Ooops! My bad! After posting, I wondered if anybody would catch my error on "reckoning !"

Thanks! I DID forget to address the "how long" question!

YESSIR! the Slashdot Meltdown/Brick award! Let's do it!
Hmm... The Cloud as a jukebox?

If this will really be attempted, operators of emergency radio systems and HAM radio operators are going to collect a bucketful of fines!
Say, "Hugh Pickens..." Your link points to a PCMAG article, not PC World! Wondering if you can read from any format...

How about photographic prints? THEY also contain silver "nano-particles!"
