It's DAMN more than that. Every form of DRM is a way to make a digital "object" have a false form of scarcity.
Corporate suits can't get it through their fat heads: the digital world has different rules. Build your business based on those rules. You can't have the same type of scarcity as a physical item. Every attempt fails and will continue to fail.
I know this is a joke, but it's more than relevant.
I am guessing the people getting off in this case are getting off more for lack of evidence rather than exoneration. Plus logic dictates that with this number of people it's not the first time it ever happened.
What upsets me most personally about the United States is that we've developed a culture where doing the right thing is NEVER rewarded and doing the WRONG thing usually is. We've got a political culture right now where a politician MUST be a huxster or they can't compete. The US Government does suck at every level, but it's an outgrowth of the sickness of the culture itself. Nice guys don't finish last; nice guys don't finish AT ALL.
....please give this gentleman a real, non-soul sucking, non-phone job.
The kid that was kicked out of school for finding the security issue was given an internship and a scholarship to help get him back on track when he was the victim of administrative idiocy. I hope someone with some power to help can do the same here.
My paranoid self says that we haven't eliminated the possibility that the right hand doesn't know what the left one is doing.
People in those projects know their section only. People have snuck in nefarious code before. Maybe it's exactly as the project leader wants it. It's not a good possibility, but it hasn't been eliminated yet either.
People that are not of the "corporate class" (hint: this doesn't include workers in corporations... this is the CEO & Executive class) have, for all intents and purposes, NO VOICE in lawmaking.
Why are there so many people that don't see this as a problem?
The way that corporate execs (as a group) are manipulating the government and not being held accountable for their fraudulent activity, it would probably be HEALTHY for some people on the streets with torches and pitchforks. The fact we see NONE of that is more concerning than any concern about "mob mentality." If you don't see the corporate malfeasance we're living with right now then you're a CEO worshiper.
There is no scientific way to put a pinpoint on when a fetus is an independent being. Therefore its in the realm of philosophy and religion.
In religion you can believe what you want, but in the U.S. (for now) there is no legal compulsion to believe one way or another.
So if accept the premise that it's NOT scientific reasoning then the "pro life" debate is exact same thing as we have here: i.e. "my religious rights trump your rights."
Actually, yes, it is possible. In the e-book market there are books that are now prominently promoting the fact that they are DRM free as a selling point.
If this occurs in the tight assed corporate game market it will take a while, as the customers are more oblivious... but wait until Joe Sixpack from Alabama gets bit by this a few times and you'll see the Ric Romeros of the world start to pick up on it.
This reminds me of what happened when the $5 and over denominations were redesigned a few years ago. Tom Selleck, who turns out to be another crazy right-wing bastard, was interviewed and complained that our currency was now "funny money." No it's not... it was just redesigned, you prick.
Yeah... you'd see a lot of the same idiocy getting rid of the penny and it would all be complaints about how change (no pun intended) is bad.
My personal opinion (that I am sure can be picked at) is that if what google does with previews violates copyright, then so does (did?) the newsagent that puts a copy of the newspaper in their window. There is no doubt in either case where the original content comes from *and* it's for promo purposes.
So apparently we have no real conservatives in our government right now.
Yeah... that's about right. Our "conservatives" are all for government power when it suits them. They are also spending as long as the money is funneled to their corporate buddies.

the hump is what gave it away.
With respect, I don't think has to do with east coast liberal elites. I think this has to do with culture and elitism in general.
Look at our leadership in congress for instance in both houses. I doesn't take much effort to figure out the meritocracy isn't in play.

This explains a lot of the postings on the Onion.
America's "highest" news source, apparently.
I totally respected you until the "teleprompter" reference. The teleprompter screaming is totally asinine.
Bush couldn't even use a teleprompter. He READ his speeches out of a 3 ring binder. Go look one up!
There is tons criticize Obama for that aren't imagined or silly. You can do better.
This was such a stupid post.... I must of not had a good day yesterday...
zzzzzzzz
Was the spokesman related to Baghdad Bob?

Reliable and speed... ...in the CEO's latest Italian car.
It's a general corporate douchebaggery problem.. not a problem with an individual corporate douchebag.
Though what is being said about Jobs isn't probably off the mark, either...
This may be a feature and not a bug to these ISPs.
The business has changed. They are probably fine with screwing up incoming services. They can charge to fix what they screwed up by using NAT.

I don't know what the odds of this are in Canada, but in the U.S. the odds of corporate execs being held accountable are almost nil.
Sorry. Manipulation of the government is not capitalism.
Give me a freaking break...
It was an R&D center for making Apple software, so there probably were no Surface tables around...
But it would be extremely funny if there were left out in the open for all to see.
