Microsoft R&D Burgled: Only Apple Products Stolen
Sir Realist writes "Apparently Microsoft's R&D offices in Mountain View were broken into over the holidays: the only things stolen were Apple iPads and the theft has apparently been confirmed from a number of sources."
Doesn't that make you feel all better about paying the premium for Tide^H^H^H^HApple?
Analogies don't equal equalities, they are merely somewhat analogous.
They were likely the only things of value in the building.
Yesterday's news tomorrow :P
It's over.
It was an R&D center for making Apple software, so there probably were no Surface tables around...
But it would be extremely funny if there were left out in the open for all to see.
This too closely fits the decades-old stereotype that MS just steals Apple's ideas as their "R&D" M.O.
Table-ized A.I.
It was information what was stolen, not the devices.
Now the thief can sell for analytics and bloggers the information what kind software Microsoft is cooking for Apple devices.
Like think about screenshots and actual apps of MS Office for iPad.... THAT IS MONEY! Not the devices but the SOFTWARE.
I seem to remember a Melissa Gates interview where she stated that her kids were not allowed Apple devices. They would be likely to have access to their father's keys, and they would have no need to steal any Microsoft devices.
When someone breaks into your R & D shop and the only thing they see of value is someone else's gear.
id do well to make my next mp3 player a zune?
Good people go to bed earlier.
I'll let serious posters with actual accounts make the obvious jokes.
The fact of the matter is, thieves don't want stuff, they want money. You can't exactly re-sell Microsoft's experimental software on Craigslist. Apple devices, on the other hand, are probably second only to gold on the cash convertibility scale.
Microsoft R&D Ballmered.: Only Apple Products thrown out the window.

"They're stealing our ship!"
"Bloody pirates!"
The thieves wanted to rob Apple, but they made the mistake of using Apple Maps to find it.

Guess we know what the valuable gear is now.
The surface marketing videos were so cringeworthy. I felt bad for MS employees.
Recall, Soviet Russia style?
Microsoft prototypes can't easily be sold. I see the obvious joke that the Microsoft prototypes were not of value, but in a sense, if they can't be sold, then that is true.

Maybe it was totally random- à la Steve Jobs?
Sauer
It was surely an inside job. Maybe they thought it wouldn't be as bad for their co-workers if they only stole the Apple stuff.
My God can beat up your God. Just kidding...don't take offense. I know there's no God.

I work for the Department of Redundancy Department.
Only apple products were stolen from this microsoft r&d lab? Sounds like R&D stands for Microsoft Reverse engineering an Denial.
I just can't irony enough.
It's much safer to own and use Microsoft technology. The iPad is driving a huge crime wave in NY and other metro areas. I would much rather stay safe and sound with my Surface.
The Mountain View campus has on-site 24x7x365 security (with a minimum of 2 guards working at night). All the buildings (there are 5) require active/working badges to open the doors, and Microsoft's security policies for badge access is managed incredibly well (in fact, almost too aggressive at times). Here's a Google Maps view of the campus; it is unknown to me which building was for R&D, but Building 5, at least many years ago, was the "Apple building" (large numbers of Apple and Mac-oriented posters visible on all the walls). Oh, I just saw the newspaper clipping scan at the 2nd link; this confirms it was at Building 5.
So how did this happen, unless it was an inside job?
I thought Apple was Microsoft Research.
Microsoft was conducting research into the security of their devices versus Apple's. These findings concusively show that your data is more likely to be stolen on an Apple device. Therefore, Microsoft products are more secure.
If the same group went to Apples R&D, would they take only the Microsoft products?
