IIRC Al shares the song writing credit on everything he does, which means they also get a nice check for doing nothing. Only someone with no sense of humor or has an inflated ego says no.
I can't believe a person as big of a publicity hound as Lady Gaga would every have a problem with a Weird Al parody. It means at the very least you've done a track that has hit the public consciousness and that you're famous. Plus she's been on shows like Graham Norton where you're sure to get made fun of in a good natured way.
Probably a goon in the entourage taking upon him/herself to make a decision.
What everyone is not recognising yet is this: money pumped towards our largest corporations do NOT benefit large sections of the population any more... they only benefit those at the tip top. The manufacturing is contracted out to other countries and any stateside employees that are not management are paid absolutely as low as humanly possible. You can trot out "but...but...but Stock Market" arguments, but like it or not only a slightly larger percentage of the population is in the stock market at all and don't you know who holds the majority of stock? It's not regular people... it's top managers, CEOs, and board members!
There was a time when big contracts would trickle down enough it would help the normal person, but that's not today. If the government was trying to help normal joes they would get rid of all ideas like tax abatement and use the same money to encourage small businesses that HAVE to be part of their communities.
Making something more workable, smaller, and cheaper is also a form of innovation. I bet this system costs a whole lot less than the satellite-based system and we already know its more portable.
It seems like there are dozens of these type of cases going on constantly. Corporate litigation is rife with abuse right now... this ought to be going on every day. I guess a lot of the integrity has been bought or bribed out of the system...
It does exist "for the rest of the company." If your idea is bad (or contains delusional thinking in terms of technology) that should be pointed out because it affects everyone.
What you say here is a situation I am sure that exists, but there is another side, too.
There are also very smart IT personnel who care about who they are working for and present opinions and warnings and never get listened to. Then, when something goes wrong, panicked people expect them to fix the mess (usually on their own without a net). This is a tough place to be, and when you have no power and all the responsibility you tend to get a bit cynical. In a lot of organisations the idea is still too recent. People often hate IT because they also become the realist in the situation, and the person with the great idea hates being told that it makes no sense or is impractical... but at the same time they become the people who "know computers" and can fix every problem. It's a bad conundrum that happens in too many places.
One of the great things about the Internet is that institutions like "the Kennedy School and at the Berkman Center for Internet & Society" are often seen as what they are... ivory tower idiocy. Not that academic study is a bad thing.. it's just one the Internet (at least until net neutrality is totally gone) an individual that doesn't have ties to the "elete" anything can still state an opinion and be lucky enough that someone listens to it.
I'm an American and I find this situation as well as almost every governmental figure from the last 8 years pathetic. Even the ones that were mostly good, like my Senator Richard Lugar, have been shit since the Newt Gingrich congress when everything officially went apeshit with partisan hate (ending in the most unnecessary impeachment trial in history). But even worse than the politicians are the general public who keep electing these idiot facemen time after time. We're in major trouble, kids!
Getting authorities to act sanely entails that they understand a *tiny* bit about how these systems work. They don't. By the admission of many legislators they are getting all their information from lobbyists... which means almost all their information has bias problems.
We've come a long way from the "creme rising to the top" and such in government. It's purely face-men listening totally to corporate interests. And anyone with true unbiased knowledge are simply "the other" now and their input is completely thrown away.
He could get a judge that isn't on the take and actually cares about the facts and the best outcome is that it becomes a VERY EXPENSIVE fiasco... what is one more very expensive fiasco, eh?
This is people in management positions in all levels of society. They are mentally incapable of differing to anyone smarter to them because, in their mind, they are the best and the brightest. It's not hyperbole to say that western civilisation is in crisis because of the hubris at the top (in the boardroom and in the legislatures).
One thing about English is so many words have different meanings and connotations depending on the context. I still hear people use "hacker" in a positive context, though not as much...

...I have a very bad feeling about this.
Nope. It's going to get A LOT worse before it gets better. That's change, if change means exactly what everyone else has done.

Well... there is plenty of insanity is corporate culture, so I am not sure your point is well taken.

We already have strict laws in the south about "defamation" of the meat industry... this isn't such a huge leap in the minds of of lobbyist.

The CEOs of the for-profit jail systems need a new Jag...

They have better lobbyists than this guy. Duh.

With such common sense apparent it makes me wonder what the catch is...

Was his name "Mario"? I know a plumber named Mario who hits his head on bricks and gets coins...
poke out their eyes and wax plug their ears so they don't hear pirated materials...
"Put in your earplugs, put on your eye shades, and you know where to put the cork!"
go somewhere else. Can you say North America Free Trade Zone?
One entire land mass under everything but nominal control by the "legal fiction" of corporate entities.
Why don't they go after the Penny Bidding scams instead?
It's so sad that Apple has moved towards the Microsoft school of customer abuse...
The employees that left simply didn't want to give Paypal their bank account number....
F paypal.
...too bad CNN has been crying about the Kacynkski auction for 2 WEEKS now.
Not only behind... 2 weeks behind.
