It's because we say corporations are "people." When they have the "same" rights as people they essentially have more rights than people since they can amass so much power.
They shouldn't have the same right as people because they aren't people. Giving the the exact same set of rights means the rights of real living, breathing people are lessened.
That's a false duality. There is no reason that regulators can't listen to the industries they regulate as long as the industries aren't buying them trips, cars, vacations, etc...
The Tea Party are a group of manipulated people that are for policies that are against their interest. They are *for* whatever makes their corporate masters money, even if it means the end of their own way of life. The fact that they are against a great green technology that would save the country money is no surprise at all.
IANAL, but as I see it basically Microsoft could sue ANYONE. I doubt that there is any business in the United States that doesn't have some part somewhere that was made by a Chinese company that didn't pirate something Microsoft along the way. If the burden is on the company to prove they didn't do anything wrong then you've got a great formula for putting small businesses into bankruptcy.
We don't only have a class war in the U.S., we have a war between big and small businesses.
This is also true... have you ever tried to properly license a song for a small product? They ask for thousands of dollars and treat you as if you're going to be making money on the project. They don't even like to call you back unless you're some super-huge corporation.
Just put in a system that allows you to pay $20 to license a song for a personal-use video, youtube, whatever and people will pay that as well. In terms of licensing where someone is using a song for some creative work they generally want to stay within the law but when the only option that someone gives them to license a song is thousands of dollars they *can't* stay within the law without emptying their wallets completely.
I wish I had mod points because this is so on target.
This is how the music business survived for decades. First of all it was so very expensive to have vinyl pressers (you notice people still did bootlegs though) and then with cassettes the quality loss was so bad it was better to buy new. If you give people a product that is better and easier than using B.T. or Limewire or whatever they WILL pay for it.
All the RIAA innovates on though is how to infuriate and sue people...
Most "free market" chaps in the U.S. are only pro-free market when it the market is deciding in their favor. When the market is NOT in their favor all of a sudden they are for "crippling" government regulation.
I wish I had mod points. The poster is right on point.
One way to get rid of this ridiculous patent situation tech is in right now is for big, not-so-evil companies to innovate and let some of these suits happen. When these get to trial I think a lot of these patent holders are going to look ridiculous to judges. We need judicial review of the entire system by a good, non-corrupt judge. Too bad the non-corrupt judges are hard to find.
Sorry, this doesn't fly for me. If an app is produced that is 100% for evading police I would say it wasn't appropriate, but believe it or not there are actually uses for this app that have nothing to do with evading a drunk driving charge. I don't drink at all and if I still lived in Indianapolis I would probably download it because I don't want to be involved with such checkpoints. I don't see how that is wrong.
Besides, how is a drunk person going to be able to use the app anyway. They'll break the phone first.
They are amoral, but allow evil deeds to flourish because the people doing the deeds know they will never be held accountable. Lack of personal accountability is the REAL evil of the corporations.
Under most usages *I'm* a liberal. I don't like Obama. He *isn't* a liberal.
Only in the minds of crazy right wingers and tea party activists involved in fighting shadows is he a liberal.
Yes. We do know now that Obama is a corpratist.
But you have to admit it simply makes the tea party's positions MORE laughable, not less.
Socialist indeed...
I think you answered your own question.
Go sit on capitol hill.
I hope and pray that I will
But today I am still
just a bill.

Don't make them think and innovate. That just hurts their head.
your phone's ringing!
The title of "asshat."
Oops.. better check again. They already have that one.
Not all U.S. companies are huge corporations that can do this. Non-profits can't afford this either.

...Microsoft SUES ITSELF and bites its own tail CLEAN OFF.
FTFY

What about one of the greatest Dr. Who serials ever: Inferno.

You're asking these people to think about technical facts in a reasonable way. These days this always fails.
What happens when Microsoft starts to claim that linux.org infringes on their "intellectual property." Do they just block it?
Way to go... give big companies another way to hit small companies and people over the head with their club of "IP".
yeah, it was a VERY weak joke.

Anyone complaining about regulation in 2011 U.S. causes an instant B.S. alert.
