The CEOs and Civil Servants need to be paid... and paid WELL so that the talent doesn't go to other organizations. After that how in the world are we going to have the money to colonize outer space?
Perhaps you been asleep since 1990... the priority isn't to make ourselves better as a race anymore. After working so hard to make ourselves rich there is no time anyway.
I am not a lawyer, but I've investigated Supreme Court decisions on rights of students several times. They always start "The student doesn't shed his or her constitutional rights at the schoolhouse doors, but...." and then go on to describe rights of administrators that describe a situation where the students have no rights.
All the lawyers have to do is describe a reasonable case that the admins were trying to "keep order" in the schoolhouse and this goes nowhere. The Supreme Court has often went out of its way to make school administrators despots in their own little fiefdoms. Anyone that has attended a public school since 1970 knows this.
Yeah.. I agree with that. I filled out their form and suggested the city in Indiana where I live. We have the choice between Comcast Cable Modem and Verizon DSL and that's it (except for Satellite, but that really isn't a possibility for us). My folks have Verizon DSL and they see brief outages at least weekly. My Comcast service is reliable as long as you keep your speed down below some undocumented level. But if you have a torrent that goes to fast it cuts out and requires the cable modem to be rebooted. It's very ridiculous.
Google could get into that market and change the rules like they have with other services. They have a better than average chance of doing it, too, but Google Buzz shows that they are still human.
It shows you of the absurdity of people like those in the Tea Party movement. They're complaining about non-existent things like "concentration camps" and saying the government is gonna take your guns while this sort of this actually is happening.
I am not sure I get this press release. Does this mean Amazon is going to raise the price of just MacMillan books? The beginning seems to imply yes and the end seems to say no.
If it's all new titles that would be collusion. If not it actually looks like an opportunity the market could actually work for once. Other vendors could keep down their prices for big parts of the book market that don't work on big author names and MacMillan could get hurt in end.
It occurs to me that authoring a book should be a lot like raising a child. You should have the right to full control of your progeny for a little while then it's not "yours" any more. To hold on to that relationship too long is unhealthy for everyone involved, including society as a hole.
This idea that artists control their work forever is unfair to everyone.
Yes. It is too much. As of Thursday our government is owned by the huge corporations. No one there is going to care if individuals are treated correctly or even if corps follow through their contracts.
Hopefully someone bought rights to the title so we can continue to write about DNF. We need more server space dedicated to DNF writing! It's always just around the corner.
I think you meant to use the word "frustration" instead of "encouragement."
At least that's the word I would use in my own case.
Colonizing outer space? You're joking right?

One where I live is called "NotYourNetwork". Not quite as good as these, but it always amused me.

Yeah. Tell that to all the folks that start yelling "canon! canon! it's not canon!" when you bring up Star Trek: The Animated Series.
All animation is just kid's stuff, after all.
They don't. They can be a bastardized adjective. "IMPREZA" is my favorite. It's supposed to be "impressive"?
Should be called "PIECEOFSHITBURNINGALONGTHESIDEOFTHEROAD-ZA"
I knew Ed Begley Jr. had something to do with this.
damn.. I need to go take my BONIVA. I am very impressed with my new IMPREZA.
Corporate names SUCK.

...Microsoft had actually admitted a problem.
An American corporation covering up a mistake in their product is regular business. For MS that goes double.

Except in my case. All my reps suck. One republican congressman, one republican senator, one democratic senator... all corporate sycophants.
...and black and whites are pulling up outside your door.. right about....
about...
NOW!
an so it goes...
Davros is attacking a meeting of world leaders?
It seems like the Daleks are always doing that. That gods Jon Pertwee was there before. What are we going to do now?
I write too quickly. It's true.
It sounds like Ursula Le Guin wants copyright to exist for her entire lifetime. Control of "her work" in perpetuity.
It is the same as Disney copyright except it goes to the author. It's only a half step better than Disney (as corporations are essentially immortal).

This isn't a left or a right thing. Both "sides" seem perfectly comfortable with it.

I have always been partial to Superman 64.
But then again I like to poke needles through my eyeballs, too.
...but the game cartridges did make a nice little hill in Arizona.
This is just what we needed around here!
Another chance to moan about Duke Nukem Forever!

Does this mean a real Sonic Screwdriver is not far behind?
