While 1/3 Market share is very respectable it is hardly enough to get people using Apple Devices who are not Apple Sheep to use it. Especially if they find that their other devices may not work with it.
iTunes got dominance, not because it was Apple or even a good product, but because it was one of the first places that offered legal Music Download, and its integration to the popular iPod was important too.
However today, the iPhone isn't nearly as popular as the iPod is. There are a lot of good alternatives and competing products. So the Apple Music may not seem like the best bet, especially as other sources work fine on apple products.
This is different from the browser war, because first you are not fighting with nearly 95% dominance. Secondly it isn't as much of an integral part of the device, as nearly everyone used a web browser, only a fraction of the users will want streaming music. Third, being a paid services it means extra pain in the pocket so they will look at alternatives as well.
As a citizen I am scared to be in America at the moment. The current leadership hard line approach to nearly everything with little to no thinking of any ethical ramification. With laws (such as the recent Tax bill) designed to punish states who didn't vote for the current leadership majority.
At this moment having a foreigner tried in American Court isn't the best place for justice. I currently have more faith in a fare trial in the UK.
During the failure of Vista, it opened the door for Apple, while Linux more or less just stayed consistent in its growth, and innovations.
Linux was keeping its pace, more or less undeterred by Windows. Microsoft failure caused it to go behind for a bit, so it seems like Linux was catching up, while it was just going at its same pace. Apple on the other hand, took this period of weakness from Microsoft, and pushed hard and gained a lot of extra ground. It made it so every kid wanted a MacBook and an iPod. While having a PC was the boring cheapo alternative.
It took Windows 7 for Microsoft to gets its groove back. But by then Apple had a lot of momentum.
In this article I was surprised about the talk of Linux during this time. Because Linux wasn't really doing anything new or interesting, they were just going further at their pace.
There is a similar process on CISCO Teleconference screens. Apparently its IP Address is sent in High Frequency so if you had some software on your device you can share your screen without having to plug it in. However it doesn't work if your device isn't in the same room. (or not connected to the network)

Historically efficiencies had always open the door for more jobs. What usually happens is this increases the possible output allowing the company to grow and hire more employees. Before Computers a store would had one person who would figure out payroll for the store. Then they get a computer system to automatically calculate payroll in fraction of the time. Now this person would use their time to do other accounting, managing their Profit and Loss, handling more complex HR issues. Where these jobs that were limited only to a large business became common place, allowing for the store to grow faster, meaning there will be an additional back office workers in such a store to keep it profitable.
Unless it will still go down to its actual value. Thus you are still buying high.
The point of bit coins was to buy thing with it. Not hold onto it and convert to cash as a retirement fund. While people are still hording it, and not spending them, they are in essence useless. Because even at 8k that is still too expensive and too volatile to risk buying stuff with it.
I remember the guy who bought a pizza for a lot of bitcoins. Which at the time was about $20.00 worth. Which only after a few years became Millions of dollars.
Products that are getting more expensive because they are expected to be sold for more money later. Is often creates a bubble condition.
The Bit Coin price kept on going up, so people wouldn't spend them, thus cause the price to go up further. Until they hit a peak were they decided to sell them. Then the market gets flooded with bit coins who's guaranteed value to increase is no longer expected. So they will sell them for less to get as much as they can out of it.
This happened with the Housing Market This happened with the Tech Market This happened with the Comic Book Market
Lucky for us, the Bit Coin Bubble wasn't a big part of the economy, so the looser in the Bit Coin Gamble arn't bringing the rest of the economy down.
It also creates false successes to companies who are using overly disruptive, abusive or misleading ads.
I am sure many of you don't remember the Web in the late 1990's and early 2000's where Popup windows were common form of advertisements. Until the advent of the Popup blocker where the Ad companies realized they were no longer getting money from popups so they had to change their tactics to less obtrusive methods. Now every once in a while we get a re-insurgence of abusive ads, then ad blockers quickly are fixed to stop them.
I am OK with advertising, even targeted advertising on sites, especially sites who offer information and services that I like for free, and do not have other options for a business model. However if the Ad failed to get my attention, then it is the fault of the Ad. And if the Ad got in my way, that made me hate the company that is their fault too.
AdNauseam which tells the Ad Maker this ad worked. So lets do more of it.
Actually the brings up a good point. It isn't what company that you respect the most, is where was that company when you respected them the most? Being that most companies are For-Profit there seems to be a time, where the lust for cash crosses their main values.
The big companies Apple, Google, Amazon, Microsoft, IBM... All had their high points where they were respected at one time for being the best example of a company. Then they will undoubtedly trim the fat too much, treat customers poorly, or move the company in a direction people don't want to go and use the companies size and influence to push it.
A contractor doesn't get paid on a nice timely basis. They may get paid Quarterly or after the project is completed. While they are working on the project they will need to function off of what they have saved up. Then they get a big payday, and save a big portion so they can survive their next project. A monthly fee is a slow leak during the pay times, If one could outright purchase the full product, then they can buy it right after the big pay day, and be able to have a slower leak in their finances, or at least more control on their expenses, such as turning off the lights, keeping the room cool or warmer....
Chances are the fee isn't actually killing him, but it adds to the worry during the times between payments.
Monthly fees really do add up and hurt a business. Even if you are Paying more for one time cost version you have the option of using a bit longer then expected, budget an upgrade, reinvest the money you are paying for subscriptions.
As a contractor you may not get paid every month, why are you forcing all your expenses to be monthly.
Well I guess you may be able to take a few days to get Wine setup to handle it.
However that is what my experience is. The Boss gets a document to you and it is slightly screwed up (off fonts, or spacing) they Demand that they send it in that format. You open the file and save it and it goes off again. Then they find out that you are not Using the newest version of office. So you have an option, upgrade to Office, or downgrade your job.
Being that windows 10 has been out for a Long time now, I am surprised how long Windows 7 held on for. Windows 10 being out for 2.5 years is a long time to take over an older version of Windows. However I expect there are some other factors involved.
1. Lack of innovation on PC's. Having a PC that is now over 6 years old still runs plenty fast for most computing needs, even some modern popular PC Games will still work on older equipment. Back in the 1990's We would upgrade our PC every 4 years. in the 2000's it is every 6 years, now in the 2010s it seems to be at least 8 years. With the 4 year after a couple of years people will just get new systems with the new OS.
2. Windows 8/10 Tablet interface. I am sorry, the new interface still hasn't got me sold. I am using a PC with a keyboard and a mouse, I do not need big touch friendly displays, taking up real estate. Or worse, blasting out to full screen for some other options. What is worse this interface is on the newest version of Windows Server. With the Search icon (A Circle with a line attached) is next to the power off icon (A Semi Circle with a Line). Granted we never had an accident with this yet. It is just really bad location for it. Windows 7 is still rather optimized for the desktop.
3. The rise of mobile devices for computing. This means a lot of software has been designed for the slower specs of the mobile devices, Extending the lifespan of the computer.
4. The Cloud, All the heavy processing is done off the computer and it has became a thin client.
Sending Ads that will not be viewed is just wasting googles money sending the traffic. And if google can show a higher impression rate with their services then all the better.
I am good with this just as long as they don't do a "surprisingly sophisticated attempt to do a double-backwards-somersault through a hoop whilst whistling the 'Star Spangled Banner'"
Your not seeing the big picture. Those megabytes you save per month, that you don't notice. Account for Exabytes of Ads Images, that their resources will not need to send onto sites that the information will not be seen.
If you are going to charge per click why bother wasting your resources downloading data that will not be clicked. If you are charging for impressions, why scam your customers with extra charges until it actually has an impression.
They should be allowed to decide what they want to view. However they should know if the content True, Fake or opinion. I don't care how smart someone is, it is easy to be tricked into believing Fake information is true, especially if not given the time/resources to fully check the validity of such a claim. We don't have such time/resources to research all information we get, so we need to take a lot of it at face value. So we need to be sure our news sources is trust worthy. Unfortunately sometimes the news will cover information that clashes with our view on how things are. It is because our view is wrong, and the news should help us correct this mistake on our part. However if we are unable to trust the news source, or we just follow what reinforced our world view, then we fail to grow as an individual, and the world fails getting intelligent thought at of the issue at hand.
I do not like President Trump, however not all of his policies are bad and some have positive outcome. I would like to know what is actually working, what is failing. I don't deserve news that is constantly showing how bad he is, and excusing anything that it going right. As much as I don't need propaganda from his side showing how wonderful he is.
Where do you draw the line? PC use to stand for Personal Computer. This would normally mean any computer that is used by a single user at a time. My workstation at work is a personal computer, because it is provisioned for me to work on and no one else. My phone is a personal computer, because I am the only person who should be using it.
The PC is an outdated term, because it was opposed to multi-user computers such as a mainframe where it had one big computer and many terminals hooked up to it.
You will be fine gambling in Elbonia, just as long as that ill gotten money doesn't flow to the US.

Adding vulgar language to to a bunch of nouns doesn’t really make a point.

Sales grew 6% at Intel, which is respectable for a company its size. Sure they lost bragging rights, but what really matters is the money.
But management and QC can be shifted to hardware.
