I think we as a nation is generally on edge, about the people who have different politics then you. Where Russian Fake news, had more or less successfully radicalized both political spectrum, to destabilize our country. So we are all fearful that the other guy in a fit or rage will attack us.
I myself who drives a Prius, tend to be weary of the people driving Pickup trucks especially ones with conservative bumper stickers, as the Car that I bought mostly to save money on Gasoline may see my Car as a Far left political statement, and may try to run me off the road. I have never actually had any problems with these trucks, but because of the political climate it became a fear that I never had before.
Trump whether or not if you like him, has not done anything to help bridge these gaps and fears, and for the most part had made it worse. To be fair Obama, didn't do enough to bridge the gap as well, and he started the wedge.
It is too bad we now live in a world, where the crazy actions of a Madman where we must assume that such actions are politically motivated. He may be a Republican, but his actions may not be politically motivated.
In terms of politics Country Music Fans are a diverse bunch. So it wouldn't be a good venue to make any sort of statement.
The thing that I fear the most, is how divided we are politically where the actual divide isn't that far. However we are so on edge, that one bad spark, could have disastrous consequences.
How much information was lost due to book keeping errors? Was information lost by accident, or damaged due to the weather? Could some one walk in and take the info without him knowing?
The only difference between digital data and paper, is just you can be targeted from anywhere in the world.
He would be safer if he did it on the computer, Not connected to the Internet. And took differential backups after close of business. And took those backups and locked them up.
That you you get the advantages of electric book keeping, but massive security. This doesn't work for bigger companies, but it can for a small one.
Europeans are just better at hiding their problems, Europe is a contentment with people who just stick their heads in the sand, unless they really have too.
Mosquitoes are a food for a good part of our ecosystem. They even are pollinators, for our crops. As well one of the core parts of the food chain. Killing them off could be a disaster. We just need to find a way for them not to attack humans or our livestock and spread pathogens then we are fine.
This isn't a factor of the GMO or the science, it is a factor of the Laws and Culture. Similar things have happened to farmers when ever a new technology for farming gets released. The large mechanical tractor allowed farmers to farm larger areas with less staff. However they will need to pay for a tractor that is a years salary. If they don't they will not be able to be competitive on the prices they sell their product.
The Pandora box of plentiful food, and reduced diseases. What horrors of genetic engineering. No... No.. I am being too optimistic, life needs to follow the path of the diplopia world that Science fiction portraits. Where such technology must and will be used to a point where it has to be dangerous, because how else do you keep the story interesting.
In general we are inflected with a lack of companies. We want a device that is as small as possible with a ton of features and last a long time on a battery. When ever something is removed to add something out there is rage about it. Mobile devices that use to have months of battery life were also about 10 - 20 years behind modern technology on what they can do. We are not closer to 5 years now. So what the display can do, processing that needs to be done unwilling to have physical buttons to handle functions. All add up to kill battery life.
They can make a ditch to bring fiber to your home. There just isn’t a colective will to do so. Right now in America we are too scared of people who have darker colored skin to make a useful infrastructure a reality.
Why cannot use any modern technology to prove its feasability? I mean we had a lot of people die during this process. You could prably measure the force of a thousand people to move a stone 1 meter. Then use heavy machinery to test the rest of the process. They don’t need to make a whole structure. Just each of the tricky parts as a proof of concept.
The American Slogan "Land of the Free and the home of the Brave" This is because Free Speech and Freedom in general are dangerous things to have, and we need Bravery to deal with this constant danger. However what has happened in the United States (and much of the world), we lost our bravery (on both sides of the political spectrum). We are afraid of Terrorist, Radicals, Racists, Minorities, Rich People, Poor People, Christians, Atheists, Muslims, Jewish.... So we are cowarding to our comfortable little corners of the world, and demanding protection from these bad ideas. This polarization increases fear, and there will be points where this fear will either lash out in escalating violence, or there will be some real Bravery, Courage and Leadership to reach out to these scary dangerous people and show that they are not so bad, and learn to disagree with a point of view, without fearing that point, and learning to accept and use use reason to help moderate the bad parts of our nature.
Until then, battle lines are being drawn, and if things don't get better there could be a Social war In America that would spread to Europe and the rest of the world, that would change the world power structure and perhaps put us into a dark ages. As the world economy would be tanked.
No the EU is just having a fit that there isn't a good European Social media platform. Much like how the EU targets all the other American companies selling in there domain. These EU companies are not more ethical than American ones (I have an advanced water filtration on my home thanks to the Tax Payers of New York state) Because a French Owned company though it was a good idea to dump PFOA into the water supply, in essence had killed the towns economy, because no one wants to live in an area with polluted drinking water. With Brexit and the intensity of the European far right. The EU has a lot of problems on its own, However I found that Europeans will not complain as much publicly as Americans, however they are more then willing to point out Americans faults.
What is IBM known for now? The last thing was Watson... Which is starting to be old technology. And IBM despite its commercials doesn't seem to be implemented anywhere to do things amazing or could be done for cheaper with custom coding. And Consulting, where you need to fight with a bunch of big names. IBM just doesn't hold the same recognition anymore.
Part of it is the decline of customer support where you have level 1-3 support more or less being useless, especially for most Companies that have a competent IT Staff, who have already ruled out all the simple stuff, and only call support when there is defiantly a problem. I also expect IBM selling its ThinkPad line to Lenovo was a huge mistake. It may had made some money in the short term, but the ThinkPad is still the most common business laptop. Now IBM doesn't have their Logo on, 75% of the Business Peoples computers, to remind them that IBM could be an option for them to take a look at. Finally they are extremely separated from its customer base. They say they send experts, but they often fail to understand the nuances of the business sector. They don't really understand where the pain points are for the business, and push technology that doesn't fit. And will not offer enough support to get it going.
Too bad you ACed your post. This deserves better moderation. The Indians are Smart hard working people... However they don't work the same way that Americans do, for an American Company like IBM it needs enough Americans in its rank to maintain its corporate culture, even if they green card Indian workers to the States and pay them the salaries of the Americans in the same positions, they would pick up the American Culture and how business is done here, then they could repatriate back to India after a couple years and know how to do things the IBM way. Such cost saving to deal with declining revenue, is the death spiral of a company. Because in essence you are getting what you paid for. So laying off Engineers with decades of experience, knowledge how to weed threw IBM bureaucracy, getting fired because they think a Mainframe Engineer cannot be easily trained to do IoT, vs Hiring some guy out of school with IoT on their Resume because they took a class on it, with little real life experience. In many ways this Mainframe guy with decades of expedience may be the perfect employee for this new technology. Because they are going to small devices with low Ram and low processing power, Just like the systems they worked on when they started. IBM is an American Company, and it will need to run like one, Forgien workers are OK for them, but if they start putting their core values away just for cost savings, they are just going to be on their way out.
The thing with smartphones. Is that it has became more or less an integral part of our modern life. Our choice of phone will force us to live with it normally for the next 2-4 years. While there isn’t anything wrong choosing a lesser known phone. However if the phone company goes out of business. You may loose out on support and updates that may particularly designed for that phone. Remember the Amazon Fire? It had a lot of cool features at the time but no one really wanted it. And I don’t think I know of anyone who still uses one today. Apple and Samsung phones tend to have good specs, they are both common and stylish enough to fit in for most events.
It really more determines on what particular topic was their big hope from Trump. Personally I find him to on track track of the worst president in history. However even a broken clock is correct twice a day, There were some things during his run, I was hoping he would actually accomplish.
1. Infrastructure: He never did much except for one of his weekly science fairs on it. But in the United States we have an infrastructure that needs a large upgrade. Roadways that are not well designed for today traffic. Serious Water Problems, We hear about Lead, but in many solid Republican communities, the water supply has been polluted with chemicals such as PFOA. As well improvement in our communication. This is something I don't know why Trump didn't push as part of his 100 day agenda. As a guy who likes new and shiny stuff big machines, and big buildings. This would had been an easy win for him, where he can put on a hard hat, cut ribbons, and have a clear measurable thing to show for his "leadership". This is also something that he could had bipartisan support for. Starting off his campaign as being the Deal maker.
2. American Jobs: Unfortunately he really turned this into a raciest agenda. However a lot of jobs (including tech jobs) are being outsourced. Where Americans are kept on board until they have trained their replacement. But could had pushed back against the American tech worker shortage, and showed the mass set of skills which could had been used.
3. Got things done: The idea that he was a businessman, we would think he could get things done. He however seems to lack the willingness to worry about the details, or have a complex big vision. But the idea he would be able to push this vision, like a businessman to drive change.
So these things may not have been deplorable wants, and Clintons deplorable comment, concerned a lot of people on the fence, who may be leading republican. I don't see Trump Winning the election, it was Clinton who had lost it.
However now that Trump became president, he only seemed do things that the Deplorable wanted,
However Facebook was the biggest provider of Fake news. There was a lot of coverage on why people disliked Clinton and supported Trump. Many cited a Facebook story where Clinton did some untrue nasty thing. (Remember Pizza Gate, where a guy raided a Pizza Store, because he believed the fake news that it was used by Clinton for Child Trafficking)
The thing is Facebook may not had did anything wrong, as much of this was just algorithmic. However after the investigation they found a problem with bias news.
As time progresses these systems trend toward getting more reliable. I am sure a lot of you don't remember the good old days, where we needed the PC power button to be directly tied to the system power supply, early systems which had the power going threw the mother board to request a clean shutdown, often had problems where the OS was so locked up that such button was useless, and you had to unplug the system to get it to work. A standard windows setup was expected to crash at least once a week. (And a full clean install of the OS once a year). Today we can expect our normal desktop systems run for months on end without rebooting. This is because of advancements in protected memory and other improvements over time. The same thing happens with website, and applications. As time progresses the standards for quality have risen. The Reload vs Refresh button is rapidly becoming a moot point. As many pages are now automatically updating their content on the fly. And this refresh button will soon be more of a feature of the application then of the browser. The Reload button on the browser is becoming the button of last resort. As there is a lot of state in the Javascript that that will be cleared out.
Being that my average vacuum had lasted me less than 3 years. And the Dyson is still working does say something. And I think I only paid $300 for it (they have different models you know)
Was this video created/sponsored by Dyson? I am not doubting the company does some good engineering. But they are also good at the sales pitch. Much like Apple. When they state a band new approach, they may just mean an incremental improvement solving some inefficiency in the process. The electric motor for automotive use is still a new process and I bet things can be approved.
Not everyone has a television, computer, or food, clean water, shelter and basic health services. I am not trying to bleeding heart, but trying to point out that just because some people doesn't have something, doesn't always mean we need to be fully accommodating to everyone. I am OK, with STD being streaming only. However I am not going to pay for CBS streaming service where I already have Netflix, Hulu and Amazon (And I think that is too much, but it is better then getting expensive cable), just for one show, that after watching, I wasn't really too excited about.
I think we as a nation is generally on edge, about the people who have different politics then you. Where Russian Fake news, had more or less successfully radicalized both political spectrum, to destabilize our country. So we are all fearful that the other guy in a fit or rage will attack us.
