However going back Windows 95 is a different OS. 10, 8, 7, Vista, XP, 2000, Windows NT 4, Windows NT 3 Were all based off the same kernel. MS DOS -> Windows ME were based on an other kernel.
Windows 2000 was a really *good OS for the day. However Microsoft Dumped ME on the desktop users at the same time. So only business/pro users used Windows 2000.
* By Good in terms of Windows OS, I had been using Linux sense early 1994. While I hadn't seen windows meet the Linux/Unix systems in terms of ability and features.
There are Legal Reasons to keep everything. If something goes wrong, you better be able to show up evidence or you may be in trouble for appearing to hide data.
There are political reasons too. Where I work can be very political, with a lot of finger pointing. If you can dig up data to prove that someone did it. You can stop all the nonsense and get back to work. If you delete your record that you have done something years ago, something that you may have disagreed with but was told to do it anyways. Chances are you (especially the IT Guys) will be blamed for the mistake.
Of corse you are forgetting the terrorist from the other religions. The Far East there is a radical group of buddests (known for peace) who is bombing and other terrorist activities. In general for every faith or idea there exist people who will twist it so they can feel justified to hurt others.
The issue, at hand is the fact government controls are meant to try to curve the big corporations. Are often nearly impossible for small businesses to comply to.
If you personally had my data. And your system got hacked, you will be responsible. So you didn't patch your servers years after a zero day, you are careless. How about weeks after a patch comes out. How about if you got hacked before a patch came out. Even if you do everything right you could still get hacked.
If you are a big company, it happens, you have the money and resources to deal with it. If you are a small company and you get hacked you are screwed in all directions.
I am not saying the rule is bad, but it needs to be made very carefully otherwise it will do more harm than good. As well I think the effort should still go towards the people who do the bad thing. Cut off network access, sue/jail/bomb the hackers who are actively trying to steal your data. Not punish the company for not having the worlds most harden and expectice lock on his door.
{sarcasm}Because to be intelligent, you must not be light hearted. {sarcasm} There is a difference between child like and childish. So sure we can have a funny cartoon characters to express emotion, without the quality of the discussion diminished.
But there is so many people who have a hard time realizing that different places have a different level of formality. Yes if you are making a scientific paper, adding little cartoons will distract from the content, as these papers should be rather dense in fact, and not expressing your feeling. However for the bulk of the internet it is less formal, and the fact we want to show emotion on it should be represented as well.
Still in that case. How will you let the large small business population know about these new rules and regulation. I mean if your job isn't really It based you may not really know about this law. Then if you did, how much effort will there be in reporting. What type of backlash from a huge bureaucracy of a government to a small business who is trying to make the bills every month.
Even if you not liable, having to go threw the process is enough to kill a small business. Then after the breach you probably will need to upgrade whatever system that caused it, causing more expenses.
Putting the blame on the business just won't work. You need to hit the people who took advantage of the vulnerability. Yes it is harder to enforce, but it has less of a chilling effect.
So how would a small company know if their data has been hacked. You know the ones with perhaps 1 IT guy, who mainly just installs canned software and make sure the computer works. The data could have been compromised for months without anyone knowing it.
Part of the problem with the economy slow recovery is difficulty in running a business. Adding restrictions on use of technology makes it much harder.
A political catch 22. We say NSA is overreaching it needs to be stopped. The feds send in the FBI to investigate. We say the FBI is just as bad as the NSA.
The thing is the FBI, NSA etc... They are not trying to actively get rid of our rights. However their mandate is our security. Unfortunately Liberty and Security don't play nice with each other, more Liberty means people get to do more what they want and that could mean infringing on others security.
These groups are doing their jobs when they try to get more information. However what we lack is proper leadership to stand up and make the tough decision of saying, you are reaching too far, and we need to insure we keep personal liberty.
That is why there is still a problem with electric car. The automobile for most folks is the second largest expense next to our homes. A family with 2 cars is usually due to a family with two jobs. So the idea of having a second car for low end driving and a car for a lots of driving, is well out of your normal budget.
30k for the Bolt (a small car) is actually quite expensive, you can get luxury cars for the same price.
Now if being green is very important in your life, then that is fine. However most peoples lives are more complex and may want to put the money to something a bit more portable.
I have seen a lot of Intelligent people, once leaving high school, live a rather miserable (by their own accounts) and difficult lives. The thing that is most common is the fact they gave up too quickly. In college I have seen good student quit out of Computer Science, because the stuff that they did which they worked hard on was amateurish compared to the stuff that I and some other students in the class did. No we were programming sense we were little kids, so when we went to college we didn't focus too much on the how to code, but the finer details of computer science. But that doesn't mean that this person who realized the they couldn't compete with us, has made a bad decision. Sometimes if you keep on going back to the drawing board you will never finish.
But yes balance is important. But intelligence is one of those things within reason can be compensated for. Take a few more hours to study, force yourself to get interested in the topic, so you learn to be excited in learning about the topic. Hanging out with people who are good at the topic as well.
Someone with a High IQ can still fail out of school, if they find some topic is harder than they are use to, or they find they are in a bigger pond with fish that are just as big as you are. Usually the difference is the Person with the High IQ, will have more free time to party, as they don't need to study as much as someone with less.
Fanboy logic makes perfect sense. Their tool is superior and the company who make the decision must be right.
Most decisions especially controversial ones are complex, and usually fall under a gradient scales of tradeoffs, all at difficult to calculate rates. So the Fanboy or Zealot will focus on the good of their side, and focus on the losses of the opposing side, making it a neat right or wrong.
If you had hind site to the decision as you may be debating it after the fact. That means you can back up your claim (still only focusing on the data you want) and show how much more right you are, for the next argument.
Computer Operating Systems, Politics, Religion, Diets, Exercise methods.... All of them are filled with people who feel so strongly about these that they do not want to take a step back and really understand the complexities of the controversial decision.
200 miles is good for nearly most commuters. However if you are going on a trip you will still need to recharge midway. How long will it take you to charge up? For 30k I hope you have a full charge in under 10 minutes
Which is why both political sides suck. We got the government making sure with its complex set of rules that trying to make a few bucks is difficult and risky. Then we have the corporations trying to get their own extra cut in the action by trying to charge customers more because they are happening to be making money off their product.
Linux is the kernel. Windows is a full operating system. You take the NT kernel and strip out the extra stuff like the gui then it could run on the pi as well
I have always had one issue with handicap, While I understand that for a lot of people who need it it really improves their quality of life. However there are often more handicap spots then cars. So when the parking lot is full you are probably better off parking in some dangerous way then actually going in a handicap spot as the fines are less. If the lot is full, you should be allowed to park in the furthest ways handicap spot.
California motto should be, regulate first measure second. They seem to pass laws quickly for every trend that goes on. It doesn't matter if it is a problem or not. They will proudly show how progressive they are when they randomly pass a good regulation. But there are a bunch of stupid laws too, that gust got passed because it seemed like a good idea. I live in New York State by no means a red state. But at least I can go grocery shopping in VT and travel back to NY and not get stuck at a check point where I need to relinquish my fresh foods.
Well in the US most neighborhoods don't have a HOA anyways. They are a select few, and they setup mostly to keep the values of their homes, and insure a comfortable living environment. As what you do on your own property may affect other people on their property.
In general it is like a mini-government to handle issues that are way too small for your town government to handle, and making a larger scale law past the confine of the neighborhood could have bad consequences, or is just against the constitution.
However for this case, it is usually just some neighbor being a jerk because if they can show that someone is not following the letter of the law, they will push for it just so they can feel powerful for that month.
If you have a 3D printers for Plastic, Metal, Ceramics, Wood A 2d auto weaver for fabric. You can make most non-electronic devices. But that is hundreds of thousands of dollars of machinery, and the cost of raw material.
The Makerbot, even with postprocessing work is still only good for mostly toys, and the occasional replacement part (Replace a keyboard key, a clip on your printer, a replacement gear) however the rest of the stuff is mostly toys and nic-naks. Great if you are kid, where you can expand your action figure universe, or fully equipt your doll house. But as an adult, not much of interests.
Will it have properties of the material. If I printed a 3d pan. Will it melt? Will it have magnetic qualities? Will it be strong enough to do the tasks. Or will it just look like wood, stone and metal but suffer from the same drawbacks that plastic has.
Patents work on a new market technology. Where the new idea can change the industry and the inventor should be able to get a strong first to market advantage. However for automotive there is a huge infrastructure and everyone is afraid to being first to market. There isn't a first movers advantage towards non-gasoline cars, it is actually a disadvantage because there isn't a proper infrastructure to support it. So in this case opening the patents makes sense, to allow all your other competitors to share in rebuilding the infrastructure, and being able to get into the market on a level playing field, vs. at a First Movers disadvantage.
There is a debates on More or less government control... That is the wrong question. The debate should be towards what actions will improve the freedom and liberty of the individuals.
I am not faulting the police for wanting such technology, it is there job to solve crimes, and any tool to help them do their job is good. However as a society, we need to stand up and say "We are willing to sacrifice safety for more liberty."
But right now we are no longer home of the Brave. Thus we are no longer becoming the land of the free.

If they are willing to put a million dollars that probably means they think there is a high chance for it to happen.
But I see this as Silicon Valley arrogance. If we apply software developers insensentives to any problem we can get it solved.

The HOA are a way to have European like snobbery, without complicated birthrights.
The diversity of channels isn't the issues, it is the same channel with just a different program schedules.
Discovery 1, Discovery 2, ESPN 1-9999, Even CSPAN has multiple channels.
