So wheels with controlled Hydraulic suspension, to lift the wheel up more.
The reason why we living things don't have wheels isn't because legs are so much better, but it will take extraordinary effort for evolution to make wheels. as normally it would mean the wheel will need to be cut off from the rest of the body. So either the wheel and the body will need to be two different life forms, needing their own food and energy. Or the wheels will need to be made from dead tissue, which would mean after they ware out the organism become immobile. I could see possible a piston type of movement... However that would require a lot of complex joints. Unlike Darwin Evolution, it isn't survival of the fittest, but survival of the good enough.
Now the funny thing would be if he accidently dropped it floating in free space. I could see web sites, such as when will the Olympic Torch will be overhead. Or bets that it will loose orbit and crash land in the Olympic fire pits just as the Olympics start. Now that would be worth a gold metal in mathematics.
Fear is a powerful emotion. People will tend to be more risk averse then forward thinking. If something is working we don't really want to mess with it. Even it is partially broken trying to make it better could have a chance to make it worse.
Part of the increase fear in the United States is the ease that information can spread. It was much easier say 50 years ago to convince the public that a certain action is good, lets say vaccines, we had limited media outlets, and often most of it was edited so not to be too outrageous, so the lone nut who did some initial science experiment and found a trend with his tests, who wanted to tell the world, would have been blocked out as not having enough good evidence. Today news peculates up from these guys, and the big media companies have little recourse but to cover these nutjob ideas because there is so much buzz about them.
Back 50 years ago, the press created the buzz, today they report on the buzz. Now there is positive effects too. However with all this info we live in a nation of fear. With all this fear politicians know this and use it to keep themselves in power.
I am oversimplifying things a bit, but application servers combined with the language, is used to create web services, which is a web form of remote procedures.
So you can code a procedure such as public String getname() {return "your name" } The app server will get all your procedures marked as a web service and their parameters and give a handy dandy XML file to the receiver so they know what to call. Also when you call the web service it formats the XML string to follow a particular standard.
This allows for better scailing of your apps, so you can have web services split across multiple servers so no particular process can slow everything down.
Some geeks are not so political and would jump on being able to work with supercomputers and get paid for it.
After WWII we got a lot of Rocket Scientists. Did these ex Nazi's have a change of heart? or they were just interesting go where there was interesting work for them to do. While working for the Nazi's they probably didn't care about the politics, but they liked the work, the same when they worked for the US for the cold war.
Well for one. I doubt there is a connection between their HR systems and their other systems. Secondly, the best and brightest will not probably be too happy if government officials knock on their door, and "offer them" a government job.
The interesting thing about security, is when things don't happen is when you do you job well. Oh look we found this guy who was getting radicalized. We tell the FBI. Then either he gets arrested or he is monitored so heavily that he will not try anything.
The general public say, Yo NSA stop spying on people, it is not like there are a bunch of credible plots anyways.
Ones freedom is often someones else oppression. Making laws and rules for a free society are extremely difficult and rarely perfect. We want the press to be free, but we want our information to be private, however if our neighbor is up to something we want to know. After an act of terrorism we get all up an arms because the government didn't collect and connect the information of the plot. However we also don't want the government spying on personal lives, and making these connections. The best we can do is try for the best balance, and deal with the consequences.
The issues that a lot of people really don't get. Products like SAP are great if you do your business the same way as everyone else. That said. Businesses all tend to run differently thus SAP becomes more of a problem then it helps. However Suits like the Term Enterprise software and signing big checks, it makes them feel like they are running a big company, and it feels good to know they are running an Enterprise standard software, they probably have been burned by the single developer tool that becomes unmaintainable after he leaves so they jump to a full commercial system.
However for the most part if you have a good development team on staff, you usually can make something better, faster and cheaper than SAP. Because you can focus on what is important and leave out the extra stuff. But as I stated your company will need a development team, not a single guy who is the lone coder.
We need software to design hardware to make software...
In short it is about better adjusting your tolerance levels on individual features. I want my Integer arithmetic to be perfect. My Floating point, good up to 8 decimals places. But there components meant for interfacing with the human. Audio, so much stuff is altered or loss due to difference in quality of speakers, every top notch ones with Gold(Or whatever crazy stuff) Cables. So in your digital to audio conversion, you may be fine if a voltage is a bit off, or you skipped a random change, as the smoothing mechanism will often hide that little mistake.
Now for displays... We need to be pixel perfect when we have screens with little movement. But if we are watching a movie, a Pixel color #8F6314 can be #A07310 for 1 60th of a second and we wouldn't notice it. And most most displays are not even high enough quality to show these differences.
We hear of these errors and think, how horrible that we are not good perfect products... However it is more due to the trade-off of getting smaller and faster with a few more glitches,
In the Land of the Free and the Home of the brave, They needed to add a lot of cowardly countermeasures to make sure the were not caught and imprisoned, for what was in essence a joy ride.
If there was a way to go, I am going to do this stunt, I am expected to be at these locations between these times, and make sure the police give us enough room and clear out traffic. Sure it may require a little extra money say an traditional $10k to pay for the expense of blocking off the roads for the time. But Risk taking should be rewarded, not punished, especially if you are willing to work with the system.
I would prefer more tact. After the meeting you hold the guy back and politely explain that it was rather rude for him to disrupt the meeting, remind him that if it is important he should politely excuse himself for the meeting.
Ok, I am a 30 something year old so I don't fit into either demographics...
However most of the time meetings are an out of date idea's. They historically worked because we didn't have a communication infrastructure that we do today. Conference phones where limited in the number of people on the line, issues with the person not being close enough to the phone to be heard and a slew of other communication problems, and before that it was very hard to get a bunch of people work on an idea, in a timely manner.
But really for most meetings, the individual doesn't need to be fully mentally involved unless there is something important to them. It would be much easier to chat via a message system, you can see the stuff go across your screen, while you work on something else, until something important comes up you can can then review what went on and come up with an appropriate answer.
the 20 somethings who grew up with this technology knows this and get very board during these meetings, as there is a lot of stuff that isn't important to them at the time that is going on. Now that said, It is still rude to disrupt the meeting with your activities, and if you are stuck at the meeting you should show some tact, but hopefully experience will clear that up.
Well it is worse then that. Most Politicians were Lawyers, Every once in a while you may get a Businessman, a Professor or a MD. But most come from the Legal background.
That is a big problem!
How we solve problems is often reflected in our professions. I am a software architect, to me I see most problems can be solved them differently then an engineer, which is different then how a School teacher would...
All these Lawyers in politics is causing a problem where they don't know of other ways to solve problems and they think the only way to do this is changing the law. While that is part of the governments job, we don't have leaders anymore just a bunch of lawers
However... With Dr. Who Smaller on the inside/Time traveling technology why would you need Digital Electronics? So you get yourself a mechanical differential engine, the size of room. Have it in a time bubble a few million years in the past, in a room bigger on the inside. You don't need to worry about all those details about digital computing. You have a simple calculator which is easy to fix and maintain. Start the processing a millions of years ago, when it is done it sends the message to your current time, So no wait.
The biggest advantages of Digital Technology is Speed and Size. If you master space and time, These advantages mean little to you.
Cloud services isn't a magic happy pill. But it does make things better over all. Chances are your local IT guy needs to do a lot of stuff, not just focus on your email server, or file server. The cloud is a good place to handle specialized IT jobs, as you can can get a team of people who can manage your data 24/7 and cheaper too, because they have 10 guys managing 1000 customers. Things are over all better... However it doesn't take you off the hook. For one you need to make sure you get the right service for your needs, if you buy the cheapest you often get the poorest service back. If you get the most expensive they may offer too many features that you need and you are spending money on stuff you will never use. Make sure your contracts cover your needs, and still plan a backup plan, as the cloud company may not become palatable to you any more and make sure you are not stuck with them.
In general it is about putting a sticker on your product. However, that sticker means you need to follow the rules, and not have a product which may harm yourself or your hardware. If you do they can then intern punish you for making a non-standard compliment product.
Just recently we heard of people getting electrocuted on their mobile phones, due to 3rd party knockoff chargers. Which probably were not USB compliant, but fit in the USB slot. Lets say I took a USB port, and just wired it straight to the AC socket in your home, and plugged it into my PC. I am willing to be I would cause some damage.
So reselling your USB Certification could lead to improper devices and a lot more legal hassle if it fails to meet standards.
Why? Putting restrictions would really go against the free software ideal. This software is Free for everyone except for the people I don't like, kid of excluded everyone. You will be better off with a commercial license that says it is free for use for the groups that I do like. You see this often for software that give the license for free for Home, Educational and Not-for-Profit.
Well it really depends, The problem is when the government starts moving a bit too fast and starts pushing out a bunch of regulations that makes things difficult. Yes it hurts the small businesses more, but still it hinders the large businesses too. For example in Health Care, For Federal Meaningful Use, we need to be sure we Record Race, Ethnicity, Language. Where Race and Ethnicity is rather general. For NY State regulation we need to record information in far more detail, and often these details don't fit well with the general ones from the federal. So we end up having to ask the patient twice to fill out this information, that has very little to do with actual heal care, but more so the politicians can understand the demographics of their area so they can alter their stances to get reelected.
The Republican party is actually very slit up. You have the evangelicals, these are the Anti-Science People, their religion tells them that science is wrong, and they should follow only what the bible says. these guys swinged republican, to stand against the abortion issue, then they got more power, now they are the Anti-Science wing to the Republican Party. You have the big Business men, These guys may know a good deal about Science and Technology, However they have earned a lot of money and they just don't want to waste it away on frivolous spending, and constantly changing regulations. Now the Tea Party, is the middle ground of the two, they don't have any issues with Science, and want what the Big Business Men want (even though it may not be in their best interests) But they see how effective the evangelicals were with their no hold back attitude so they adopted it. It isn't the lack of Science Skills is their issue but stubbornness to realize that there are a lot of details to maintain. In many ways the Tea Party is like Physics Majors XKCD. You can be good at science and still be very stupid.
Now the Democrats can jump on a lot of anti-science band wagon stuff too. Such as Hyper Environmentalism. Where people condemn new technology and not consider that its tradeoffs overall is better. Then you got the Foodies, Where they want all natural everything even if there is no evidences to their views. Heck I remember when they found some findings that GMO Foods doesn't have any heal effects, all these guys jumped up an arms and just won't believe the data, making excuses, attacking the scientists motives etc... However being the Colleges and Universities will tend to be supported by Government aid, Scientist will be more naturally gravitated towards the Democrat party. For most of them, it isn't as much about the party being better then the republicans but the fact they pay the bills.
