So you saying this lawsuit is a Liberal Agenda to get revenge on John Schnatter exercising the freedom of speech. By exercising loopholes in laws passed by the Liberal Elite, that are attended to clamp down on good and honest business, to help pave the way to a socialist communist America?
I get the feeling that the scientist who did this study is single and cannot get a girlfriend. Lets try to make people panic so girls will date Nerds as their civic duties.
Compared to most other forms of Mass Marketing this is a rather fair deal. Say you get 1% to respond of one million that is 10,000. If your product has $0.30 in profit then you break even. But who has $0.30 in profit, For a cheap product you usually get at least a few bucks out of it. So you pay for you Marking Cost. You could try the competitors and you may get a smaller rate, however you will not reach as many people.
The business market is very lucrative. The consumer market just exploded. Businesses are still buying servers and boring business software... But people are getting things that they never had before. iPods, iPads, iPhones, their competitors alternatives. A bunch of devices that the average joe/jane wouldn't be caught dead carrying on them 20 years ago. Or be considered a uber geek.
The key advantage to Commercial Software is you tend to know what the motives are for the software maker. To Make money.
For Open Source they have a lot of different motives. Gain Experience, Give their Ego's a boost, Trying to give back to the community, Sell additional services later...
That is the problem, I agree Making money isn't the most noble cause in the world, however if you realize that is the game they are playing you as the consumer can use it to your advantage, because you can always say No I will not buy that unless you do X for me. When there are a different set of motives you get an inconsistent experience working the GNU software suppliers. Some will be great and you get software far better than with commercial. But you also get the people who will not do anything to help you (Write your own damn patch) because they are not interested in the end user at all.
The problem lies in the fact the issue isn't black and white. Yes fossil fuels cause Global Warming. However we can't get get off the stuff, as Fossil Fuels are a relatively concentrated, and stable form of energy, that can moved and transported and held in long term reserves. We cannot go off fossil fuels. Alternative energy isn't there yet. In the mean time we need to use it, and if we can get it from politically safer areas all the better. If we don't have to buy oil from the Middle east, we can set back and watch them kill themselves over their petty differences without much intervention from us.
Yes I have. And still LInux sucks as a Desktop OS. It is Great for a server OS. It is Excellent for a Workstation OS. It is also really good for a beginners OS.
But it isn't good for a Desktop OS.
There is a learning gap between the Newbie user and the Expert User. That Linux distributions doesn't fill. These are people who know how to use the computer beyond word processing and internet. However they are not developers or administrators. For the most part they can add new hardware to their system without much hassle. They can navigate a GUI representation of a file system. They expect a consistent Copy and Paste experience... The Desktop user isn't the Grandma, or the IT Pro, it is the guy in the middle. Linux has gap in its design for that group of users. Sometimes it isn't fully Linux's fault such hacking implementation of drivers that don't work well or at all because the vendors will not play nice. But other times it is just because Linux systems development doesn't have too many non-technical people, who doesn't struggle reading a man page. Or who thinks the command man means something about men.
{partial sarcasm}Well that is the problem with Open Source software when the creator stops being involved in the product the product in essence dies and goes on the waste side, as there is a loss of interest in the product. While commercial apps have teams of people and if it makes money it will continue on with the loss of it leader and it can even move from company to company{/partial sarcasm}
No No you got it wrong. News isn't about fact, it is about making people guilty in the eyes of society so they can be shunned from society, because our normal court system is designed to try to make sure innocent people go free.
Star Wars I-VI were never masterpieces. They were all Special Effect Eye Candy with some story put in place to explain the special effects.
Ep IV. Boy from humble roots is found out to be special. Taught by a mentor, mentor dies boy takes his place.
Lets use space ships and laser swords.
Ep. V. Boy struggles new role, finds a better mentor who trained him harder. Tracks down bad guy and finds that bad guys isn't all evil.
Lets use some futuristic sets, and more ground technology and new puppetry techniques.
Ep. VI Boy now tries to turn bad guy into a good guy. Bad Guy has a true evil mentor keeping his feelings twisted. Buy turns bad guy into good guy. The Evil Mentor is destroyed all loose ends are wrapped up.
We want to make a lot of different types of aliens.
Ep I - III We want to show off all this cool CGI that we can now do. Lets try the same story ideas but make sure he goes on the path where the Boy ends up the bad guy.
My biggest complaint about Ep I-III isn't Jar-Jar or the other special effect gags. That is common in Star Wars, even the fact that the plot wasn't that good. The problem was Skywalker was never a character we would like. Ep. I he was too young. Ep. II he was just too annoying, we didn't really feel like we wanted him to win. Ep. III they started out better than they made him bad way too easy.
There is a Fictional Element to Science Fiction. We have observed Light being bent we know it is possible. We have not observed anything going faster than light. We don't even know if we have the means or power to warp space/time, it is purely theory.
Who says they are looking for documents? The stuff you toss gives a lot of details about your life and what you have been up too and how many people are living with you.
Replacing a single click stylus with a multi touch display, is one of the bigger enhancements. The problem with old tablets was the single click. You are just replacing the mouse/trackpad with a stylus or your fingertip. You don't get any real advantage over one method or the other. Hence people would prefer a small clamshell laptop, because typing on a screen with a single touch was actually very difficult. With Multi-touch displays you have more features such as the Pinch Zoom, and Virtual Keyboards are much easier to type on with multi-touch.
Also 2001 Wi-Fi wasn't widely available, and battery live was only a few hours. That means people were still tied to their desks with their PC's for anything that requires a network connection.
Finally, it was a chicken and egg problem. That now microsoft is trying to solve. Where the OS and software is not touch sensitive because there isn't any devices that use it well, and devices will not use the features because the software isn't customized for it. Windows 8 and the Surface is an attempt to get some traction going.
I have Windows 8 on my Laptop with a multi-touch screen. And I actually really like it, it is fast, and easier to use after you learn the new gestures. Most of the Hate against windows 8 is the same hate against MS, and the hate of learning something new.
And the new Netbook designs are in response to the tablets.
You have netbook a cheap (Under $600) laptop. It has limited use but its price is popular and it is small which people like. Then comes the tablet. They added a better optimized OS for low performance hardware and some new UI interfaces to make it more interesting, as well make it smaller. The newer Netbooks are adding those UI features trying to one up the tablets, as well with Windows 8 trying to bridge the gap together. As well the Ultra Books are coming to add tablet enhancements to standard Laptop designs.
Legitimate reasons don't count here.
Open Source is Superior, Commercial is inferior.
Anyone who says otherwise must have been bribed or just a shill.
A policy of discrimination against a group of people.
vs.
A policy of how to manage health care for many different types of people without much regard on what group they belong to.
Well a lot of companies beat them to it.
Desqview,
OS 2
Linux.
Slackware Linux was release 17 July 1993
Windows NT was released 27 July 1993
