It isn't as much that we follow and bend to Fanboism from Apples marketing department. It is more the fact we really haven't had any real negative experience with Apple products vs. Other companies...
I have had some products and phones in the past that after I used them I put on my list not to use that company again, unless they have really changed their way... Motorola, Compaq/HP, Gateway, Chrysler, GE Appliances...
Then there are companies that I have had overall good experiences with. LG, Samsung, Apple, Toyota, Lenovo... So I would buy from them again without having such a critical eye.
Now it is up to those companies that I had good experience with to prove me wrong. And the ones I have a bad experience with they really need to prove that they are much better then before.
Apple has consistently offered a quality product which I have been happy with, and was useful. Not to say Apple product was the best product but it is a safe bet that I will be happy with it.
Why not? They can accept Islam as a major religious force in the country. It doesn't mean they need to convert or will convert. But they will accept many Islamic ideas and values (Hopefully the good ones).
Not the magic of competition... It is that for some things Private Enterprise does better then governments. And yes some things government can do better then Private Enterprise.
Governments are risk adverse. (Great for keeping you city water supply going and clean) Enterprise thrive on risk. (Great for innovation, and making new things)
The problem is you have to many party liners out there who think Enterprise should do it all or the government should do it all. Or they put the wrong groups to do particular jobs.
Space Travel is Risky, Government has a hard time with that, as people sometimes die and needs to be crippled when that happens because they took too much risk and now need to reevaluate how to reduce risk. Enterprise when someone dies, They will not get crippled they will fix the problem and try again. And yes more people will Die with Enterprise space travel... But more people will also be able to experience it, and enterprise space travel will get safer, over time. Probably faster then government space travel as they will be learning and altering from more mistakes.
Roads, Water Treatment, Natural Gas Distribution and Electrical Power, and I would even agree Internet access should be controlled by the Government (Many of those are currently not in America) as these are known quantities, can be tightly controlled, and regulated well. And well shown if our tax dollars are being well used or not, and span a wide infrastructure and if it were private business owning these areas Local monopolies form.
As for Education and Healthcare those are problematic. Neither Government or Enterprise can really properly run these. I would suggest a highly regulated industry for those.
Often the problem is when these plans are made, time lines are too optimistic to get it under budget. Then the timelines are used as a whip to judge people success or failure. They work better if you can have blanks. And the project managers job is about keeping the project going and all the requirements are met.
Education is what you decide to take out of it. I left college enriched and with a new set of skills that I felt made me very valuable in real life. Others who took the same classes, could barely use any of the tools and had much harder time and were quite unprepared and only knew C++ (even though they took the same classes when I was out I had C, C++, Java, Python, Lisp and many others under my belt (Those were new technologies at the time)) Because after I was taught the basics I expanded further to try to actually master the topics vs. just enough to pass the test.
I came in to college knowing how to Program, and I majored in Computer Science. I saw that it improved my skills and was worth it. Others got less out out. Because they decided not to be educated in the topic but get the degree.
The value of the Masters is the fact that after getting the first degree they went back to more... And a lot of those people who didn't decide to invest in their undergrad didn't come back, leaving Master students more people who wanted to invest in their education, vs. just getting the paper.
It isn't as much the school, but the culture of education, where actually wanting to learn stuff vs. just passing the class is discouraged. Colleges know that that why they are so much more expensive, more and more money goes into non-education... They go to making bigger and fancier classrooms (But if you check the utilization of the current classrooms you can see that most rooms are empty, and they just need a cheaper refurbishment, but to the colleges who are collecting money, a new building is so much more effective then getting money then refurbishing the old classrooms) So much is wasted and little is invested in the students.
How much koolaid do you need to drink even before you consider Mac OS Servers. I am a Mac Fan and I think using OS X for a server situation is idiotic.
It isn't that Mac OS X can't do the work, but you are not gaining much over any Unix Server, except for the fact you are stuck with Apple Hardware and an Apple OS. At least if you went with Sun Servers you have a Unix Server that is really designed to be a Server, with all the ugly complicated features that Jobs doesn't want to talk about.
I only saw OS X server as a server for the Mom and Pop shops mac fan. Where they can host a web page, and share some files, perhaps host email. Not a for a company large enough for IT Staff.
Well unfortunately volunteering at schools comes with political baggage that you have to carry, If you are too educated teachers don't like you and see you as a threat for teaching children better then they can, especially if you are Non-Union. Because teacher pay is too low, many of them compensate it with a personality that states that they are better people then the rest of the population. And the fact that they work all day with people who look up to them (In some way or another) they get caught up in that delusion.
The education system back then also gave people the skills they needed. Electronic Computer have replaced a lot of Entry Level jobs where someone can come in and learn the business. Where before you had people in the Mail Room sorting mail, knowing who is what and what they do. Or Receptionist transcribing and typing peoples work. Or human computers people who just do the Math. A lot of jobs that allowed people to grow into a company have been removed, and will not come back. We need schools now to teach business skills and job training so the current generation can jump in.
We can't look to the past and say it worked back then so we need to undo decades of changes to get back to that point. Factors have changed. Education needs to focus on Job Skills and training, Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, Political Awareness, and Dealing with people.
Consoles in general are not good for RPG games It is really a PC thing. Probably due to the old days RPG needed a keyboard... Although they are less needed now it is probably still a PC mindset to play RPG while you do action games on Consoles.
I would disagree. Even though in sales Apple wasn't so great. They had the public eye. Especially with the iMacs, A dramatic change from the White/Gray/Beige/Black (The Gray and Black PC were often for specialized systems) boxed PC Boxes that was so common. The Multi-colored Cute iMacs really got the public eye. (the first Girl friendly PC with enough processing power to allow a guy to use it without laughing) It got a lot of news attention. And other PC manufacturers took notice (Dell, Gateway 2000, Compaq). None of these companies really cared for putting in Floppy Disks in their system, Odd Sized Ribbon Cable, makes assembly more difficult, A component with a lot of moving parts exposed to the environment making it a high point of failure, slow speed, and taking up a drive bay where you could put some more cooler tech in it. But they wouldn't dare getting rid of it, because people still had floppies and used them (heck at the time I had a 5 1/2 and a 3 1/2 floppy on my modern Desktop) And if they were first to do so could cause their competitors to break in and take their share. Apple had the gut to do it... Or they were just desperate and realized that they just couldn't make a floppy fit in that little computer and have it priced as it was.
But people bought the iMacs because they were cute... Then if they needed to transfer a file they demanded that it would be stored on a network or burned onto CD, then shortly after that people used Floppies less and less. CD-R did help put people at ease about getting rid of floppies but CD-R wasn't really an appropriate replacement for the floppy. They were expensive add-on when the iMac came out and for a long time, even after floppies were well in the range of fading away.
An OS X Server is like a Linux Desktop. Sure they work and a lot of people can be very happy with them. But they overall are sub optimal. Linux Rocks as a server, It is OK at a desktop. OS X Rocks as a Desktop OS, It is OK as a server. Both sides can do what the other does but the issue is on the overhead effecting the overall experience.
It actaully a lot easier to do what you want with a dogs brain.
How cool would it be if your dog could simply tell you he's hungry. When he sits right next to his bowl and stares right in it we know he is hungry
you could explain to your dog that he shouldn't destroy your furniture. "Bad Dog... NO"
Or you could show him around town and explain to him that he can go where he wants, but shouldn't mindlessly cross the street and that this is his home. If you let a dog do that he will normally be like such. Even crossing the street a dog can learn to do it cautiously
Getting people to do that is much harder. A dog can learn most of this stuff in their first year. For a human it can take 3-7 years for them to be able to handle that.
Ethics is an important part of Science. And should be considered whenever you do an experiment. But ethics are rarely if ever black and white. But something that needs to be weighed. Do you jump to animal testing before you sit down and do the math and run simulations? Do you do a psychological study without having an educated hypothesis what will happen? If it doesn't happen when should you terminate so you can re-evaluate?
I am not saying we should allow all the nuts go out and say this is evil because God says it is because we interpret this translation of this book to say that. But Science should strongly keep an ethic mindset before they jump to do something, and not let the excitement of discovery push you past the line.
You have a small group of religious nuts out there, if they can show that you toss ethics aside to do the work they will gather groups of people who are more moderate. Then you loose your funding, having to defend yourself, trouble getting new funding, etc....
Yes, It sounds like their are doing a lot of crazy work where all they need to do is back track and go with a normal version numbers to fix the problem.
Mozilla JUST ADMIT YOU WERE WRONG! and go back to what was working before. Being wrong isn't a sin that is how we all learn, if you are going to bull headed and just make a lot of extra work just to cover your mistake, so you can save face, is plain stupid.
These groups values. We hate the USA for reasons that it is cool to hate the USA because USA does things the rest of the world doesn't like... So we will hack into their computers and corporations to show that USA and many of their corporations do things the world doesn't like.
It is like the political adds that shows the Republicans show that the Democrats follow a "LiBeRaL" agenda. And the ones the Democrats show that the Republicans have a "ConServeAtive" agenda. It is a great way to scare the Idiots. But all in all it tells us Nothing of value.
ONE GIGABYTE OF DATA! C:\Windows\System32\ Folder open as a honeypot. Just hoping you get to their host file and access the network of some more honeypot servers to verify the connector.
How much of can you really sacrifice? I bet a lot. "The Man" isn't holding you back it is yourself. You are finding excuses not solutions.
Everyone has a different set of circumstances, You have a family and kids. Ok... I have heard of people with fare more liabilities to made it successfully. If you want to start a business those kids of you can be used as cheap labor, to help your business get off its feet. Their are business loans that you can get if you get, that will help pay you during the beginning period. If you work from 9-5 what do you do from 5:00-12:00 You can use that time to figure out how to find solutions to these problems, and get paperwork ready for loans or start part of the business as after hours part time.
A lot of people like to work from 9-5 get paid enough to survive and live well. It isn't slavery it is a choice, they don't want to work harder in life so they accecpt that they won't be rich in a trade off of a comfortable modest life, with time to live for themselves. That is a good choice as well.
But stop saying how the rich have it So MUCH better while I have so little when you are afraid of even trying to succeed. If you tried and you had some force trying to hold you back from succeeding eg. Government saying You must do this (like in Communism), or being born into a Cast that will not allow you to better yourself, that would be different as there is a Force that you can identify as holding you back. But who is "The Man" that is holding you back... It is you.
Do you really think the guards will shoot you if you had a technical problem? I think they were there to make sure you didn't steal the equipment or walk home with a bunch of data.
We like to group people into particular groups do our stats on that particular grouping and declare the Dewey Defeats Truman. There are different types of pirates and they are not equal. You got moocher pirates who just take what they can get and don't post back. You got the pirates who buy and then redistribute. You got the pirates who mooch and redistribute what they mooch You got the pirates who buy and then redistribute for a price. You got the pirates who mooch and then redistribute for a price.
Now if you pick and choose which Pirate group then you can prove whatever you want.
Too expensive. English (PRINT CAPITAL LETTERS) tend to favor straight edges, and rounded part are often just a basic Circle much easier to engineer then Arabic letters.
Military, Police, Fire departments.... Have this odd mindset when making decisions. Way back I was putting a bid in to to do a financial report in (I think we proposed a basic Crystal report to read off their SQL Database) reports for a fire department. Quick job easy to do... If the project failed no real impact. However the Chief was insist the quality of the the product was of utmost concern because what the do can be the difference between life and death. Then they went with an other company who was willing to make their own reporting system from scratch for a lot more, but they liked it because it was there and custom just for them. And some how this system was better then using an off the shelf system. And being that their jobs are so important they deserve better then off the shelf.
A lot of the mind set is in terms of hardware these groups have a lot of specialized equipment that is better then off the shelf, and non standard. Firetrucks, Police Cars which are highly modified version of standard cars, the military has "Military Grade" for their equipment. So they are use to thinking that their stuff in order to be useful needs to be non-standard and custom.
I am sure we know IT is kinda more broad. That a system designed to process data for 100,000 people either for corporate use or military makes little difference. The difference is if something goes wrong do you get attacked by lawyers from the company or do you get attacked by the lawyers of the military.
The internet is such a hostile place to move your data anyways military grade isn't any different, they just do it in a way that makes it difficult for it to moved to the right spots.

It's too hard and it can't be done?
