LinkedIn is a very different structure... It is designed to be more professional and a professional distance. I have people on my LinkedIn that I would never have on my FaceBook, even though I make sure there isn't anything embarrassing on my Facebook account, but it more the point of keeping a Professional Distance.
"have the kid show parents any messages they feel are inappropriate."
Really were you ever a kid once? Unless the kid is a real Momma boy/girl... They wouldn't discuss this with their parent. In school students talk with the inappropriate messages all the time. The fact that a teacher is doing it off hours wouldn't seem as wrong to a child/teenager. Chances are they actually like that teacher and the last thing they want is for them to get in trouble.
Even for a small community it is kinda odd for an Adult to be a Friend to a child. Especially if they are also in a position of authority.
I remember a long time a ago. About a hack where someone was able to sniff a network with a security camera pointing on some 10Mbs hubs. Because the LED lights were blinking with the binary data on the traffic.
That is why its market share is dropping... At some point you will want a new computer. Granted our upgrade cycle is starting to slow from every 4-5 years to every 6-8 perhaps due to the switch of innovation of software from running on a PC to running over the Web as a Web App. However at some point you want your browser support more and faster rendering as your browser requires to do more work, by then you will need to upgrade your PC. Then you get Windows 7 or OS X Lion installed (if you choose you can put Linux on but that is not often a selling option, and besides even if you are going to use Linux, the cost difference between a Linux install and a Windows install is minimal... So you are better off being able to have a legit copy of Windows, and Install Linux after you get the PC)
Sometimes an action flick is just that... Action flicks rarely if ever really have a good plot... We just think they do when we were kids, or teenagers. If you never saw any of the Star Wars movies then watched them (Even excluding the new ones) they would probably joke at the lame plot that they use to show off all the cool special effects.
Why did they need the force? Well as a plot device to show people doing super human things, so they can make these cool special effects with it, did the force really add to the plot much... Lets see... Boy Find messagers who direct them to a an old general. General befriends boy and asks him to join him, Boy rejects then finds guardians dead from bad guy. Boy goes with general as has nothing else to do. General finds Rogues to do work No Questions Asked. General, Boy and Rogues go on quest get caught by Bad Guys. General, Boy and Rogues try to escape and rescue the Dame. General works on the escape, while Boy and Rogues find dame. Dame helps Boy and Rogues escape. General Finds Bad Guy fights to the death and dies. Boy takes Generals place. Boy kills Bad Guys... Boy becomes Hero.
Now you can take that story plot, and change things around many ways to create hundreds of movies. After such movies we do not gain much insight into anything. They are just fun to watch the special effects, and its easy plot allows our imagination to make us feel like we can be the hero too.
You could use it a balance scale, a straight edge, a measuring unit, a protractor... Probably more. It would seem like a good tool for a Foreman to carry around and make sure the workers are getting things right or they need to be beaten more, heck by the look of it it could work as a nice club too.
I think they were considered useless as in most math classes when students study Trig. they are taught to do the math and not measure it on a projector... (As values are not to scale) So in school it was a useless tool... However in real life where you do need to make things to scale they are quite useful... Even today. But if you were to use one in real life you are probably going to get something better then that $0.25 plastic protractor
Because we only have a few hundred years of weather data.
Global warming isn't weather will hit record highs it means the normal distribution curve of weather is shifted. If this was the hottest record ever. Without global warming it still would be pretty darn hot decade, chances are still record breaking.
They defiantly approach problems differently, I find women developers tend to be less interested in the next big things but the daily process of keeping things working... Now I could be way off because most of the Women developers I have worked with are from the 1980's graduates, and are focused on retirement. But even with younger women developers they seem less interested in trying to make something and more to keep it running or do what it is told.
This isn't a bad thing, I have seen some very good code produced, and very timely.
However it does sometimes create a situation where it is harder to create a change in the process.
I think it is a different on how we approach music today. Back 30 years ago, the age of Mr. Boom Box in public booming their music for all to hear and get pissed off at (Like in Star Trek IV). Today our music choice is more of a private thing, we take all our music and put it on a little device and with headphones we can listen to it. Yes sound quality of an MP3 Player is less then those old stereos but you are not trying to over power the rest of the world with your sounds, so you really don't need it. Even with better sound systems, they are only realized when placed in an area designed for good acoustics, most places are not.
Small headphones will be enough to give you enough sound detail for most people to enjoy their music.
Tea Party, is just a revamp of the Religious Right. They kept the craziness and took God out of it. Figuring they can get others to join... It worked.
Palin was chosen because she was a Young, Woman who had a position high enough to carry the title and do the work as president... To counter balance Young Minority President Obama. Just to make sure if you voted for McCain you are not feeling bad about voting against a history changing moment.
McCain is a moderate republican. We don't have many of those out there any more... What happened in the last election was during the primaries he had to seem like he was far right, after he did that he failed to move to the center very well. Oboma had the advantage of being after Bush, If Donald Duck won the Democratic primaries he probably would have been president, and he made the shift from Far Left to Center very gracefully.
We have a hole society who thinks that Moderates are week minded. They are not, they can hold strong to their convictions however they are not stupidly just holding onto Redirect and take each issue as it comes up. We need to demand more moderates, but the ext reams on both sides have us believe if we elect a moderate the ideals of the party will be compromised away, which isn't true.
There are some things that we need that you cannot trust the individuals to properly fund... Most of us doesn't really understand how expensive stuff is or why it is so expensive, and just assume that someone is ripping us off. If you want the government to run a lot cheaper, be prepared for a very scary government where corruption is very common. A lot of the government funded money goes into making sure that it isn't abused. Managers on top of managers all making sure each other isn't abusing their own power, or getting secrete deals making sure no mistakes are made, and workers who are afraid of making mistakes will avoid being innovative. We can cut a lot of this overhead and things will still run... However there will be groups running illegal deals and giving money to corrupt officials for service. However it will be cheaper, but not better.
500GB, but considering years old Blue-Ray stores 50gb and magnetic drives, and flash drives which can store a lot of data and now are relativity small and cheap, and more and more people are use to saving and retreading Data via "Cloud" or network type storage, It may be dead on arrival.
There what you do, and why you do it. Most evil people are not murders, but they are evil because the work to disrupt society. Terrorism and this type of hacking are about disrupting society. And if by hacking into the wrong system and someone dies I doubt the hackers will loose any sleep, they will justify it as they shouldnt be dependent of that data source. Just as a terrorist can justify civilians deaths as they were working for the target.
For the true skeptic. They want to look at all the data and all the claims. Not that I doubt global warming but how much impact man is causing on it. Sure there is a correlation with carbon, but what about volcanic activity, perhaps water vapor (as many cities are popping up in the desert opening deep underground water sources and people planting grass), how about the effect of the suns output. Maybe our carbon is a minor factor but the earth is in a "perfect storm" of many factors.
No data will convince the politically motivated group who are courted by the oil companies to make sure that there product isn't put in a bad light. But people who want to see the truth and doesnt trust either side.
So I should Boycott a legit company, because that company is getting help from the FBI to arrest people who has wronged them. The people who wronged them was because because they didn't like because of ending service to an organization that was priding themselves on releasing illegally obtained secret information, which was in conflict of the companies contract, and failure to do so would have the company legally responsible to part of the crime.
I wish I liked PayPal more, if I did I would try to put more business threw him, in support of their actions.
This sort of hacking people because of a political stance is bad. It is along the same mindset as terrorist who kill people in organizations they disagree with, with the exception of actually killing people you damage services you incontinent a lot of people. Sure it is better then Killing people but still it is the same mindset of cause wide scale problems effecting many people who are innocent of said problems, and it exacting revenge not justice.
"Elitist" are people who think they are better then the rest of us. And when ever something complex comes up they go "Trust Us" or "You wouldn't understand". If they do try to explain it, they will either get too much in the details, using accronyms and concepts that the average person who isn't in that field wouldn't ever use. or talk down to the public and give a cartoon version that a 5 year old might understand.
I like the old 1950's and 1960's educational material. Sure we poke fun at it for being corny now, but really it is a good mixture, of teaching the subject without making the person seem like a school child. Back in the 1950's and 1960's before there were nerds and geeks (Nerd use to be spelled knurd, or drunk spelled backwards, to represent people in college who were studying vs. out drinking) They were educated but were also the average person. Then when Geek and Nerd subculture came out the Geeks and Nerds isolated themselves from the community thus adding to the rift.
If we can get rid of this "Elitist" view and realize that people in general are smarter then you think. Then they won't revolt against the intellectuals as this subversive group.
Have you been under the rock. We deserve to have everything exactly the way we want it. If we don't like it we complain, but never ever, consider not using it. Oh woe is me my Smart phone has all the features of a High end computer 8 years ago. But it doesn't do X or Y or That device has this carrier problem... And the alternatives have other problems, so I am stuck with that brand. You don't need a smart phone, you don't need to access social media, All you need to do eat, drink, keep your body at around 98.6 degrees, get rid of the waste, make sure it doesn't rip open, or get infections. The rest you can live without if you choose.
That is your political slanted view of the issue. Others views are different, you need to stop reacting and learn to listen carefully to both sides... Those Tea Party (while may have rooted and contain ultra conservative members) are not trying to threaten the lives of those people but see it as more a "Tough Love" aspect to many of these groups. They feel that a lot of these people especially the poor, are on welfare and not working because welfare makes it too easy for them not to work, and by getting rid of it, it will force them to go out and work to survive. Not as much punishing the poor but making incentives to get off their butt and do something. Now I don't particularly follow that view but I do understand it. Also I find that the Liberal Parties are often the first to point out that any sort of cuts will effect social services that government provides as to rally the people against those EVIL republicans while for most of them they want a cut in government spending and not necessarily in direct social services, it is the liberal party who decides that is where the cuts should be. Look at say your local government when they propose to keep school takes the same while costs rise. The Liberal parties will state how many teacher will be laid off, vs. Keeping the School Bus that has some rust on it for an other year, or cutting the Vice Principals Secretaries Assistants. Both parties are evil. Why do we elect people if all they do is just follow the party line? If that is all they do they are useless we should just vote for a Party Line, hire 2 lawyers to interpret those party lines. And when an Issue comes up, based on the percentage of votes you can determine if it will pass or not. If it is in direct conflict of a party line 2/3 of the opposing party line will be needed to pass. If it is in the gray zone the majority party line will win, If the problem doesn't fit into either party line, it gets passed easily. We need to elect people who do not follow the party line as a rule, we need people who can lead and see if their party line view may not work in the case and make their vote... And their party shouldn't punish people who had made such a decision. .
I would agree. This is a "I HATE CLOUD SOLUTIONS BECAUSE THEY ARE CLOUD SOLUTIONS" type of response. You can't judge Cloud solutions as one evil entitiy but as each one individually. There are good ones, there are bad ones, they are ones where you can work with a predefined contract of rules to follow, and they are ones you just agree to their rules. Cloud is the same as SaaS with is the same as Hosted Software, which is quite similar to Time Sharing. The Cloud name caught on, SaaS didn't, and Hosted Software just sounded too old.
I was hoping for some cool non-centralized server alternative coded with at least some neat scripts... No that article was lame.
Our brains are normally good at picking up a lot of subtle nonverbal queues. Austic people tend to miss them more on a veried level. While the theory of keeping us away from corpses is a good one. However we don't get the same effect with animal (of different spieces) where many of those dangers are still there.
I think it is the lack of non-verbal communication that makes people uncomfortable. It looks like a human, however I cannot judge it's state of mind. Thus you are afraid of it as it's actions are not telegraphed. We actually pick up a lot of queues and can tell if someone is going to shake your hand or punch you in the gut. With many human looking robots we don't see the queues and are afraid of the next action.
Style is important, most geeks do not comprehend that. Sure the tech specs are good, but it comes down to, Do I have a device that make me look professional or a cheap plastic toy that makes me look like I am still a teenager.
Sure there is a lot of talk about the problems with the iTunes problem. Heck I was just reading a CNN article on how developers are dropping iOS apps because Apple wants to take a cut off of every product/sub app sold threw the app.
The problem is there isn't a compelling alternative out there yet. Android while having a larger user base has less quality apps. Right now everyone is copying Apple. That is good for Apple as lot people will decide to get the Original vs. the Copy.
Now in order to dethrone Apple you will need a product that is noticeable cheaper 50%+ cheaper or generations ahead of the Apple offering.
Apple iPhone kicked in because it was a generation ahead of the other smart phones (Even with Edge) out there. It took about 2 years for phone companies to catch up.
