As someone with religious tolerance and have actually have worked with catholic Priests, Nuns, Monks, Bishops, etc... A lot of these people are Smart and have PHD and MDs in many areas of science and often with other areas of study as well. Don't let the traditional dress fool you, these people are actually well educated with sharp minds.
Just because you don't agree with their religion or religion in general, don't let yourself think for a second that these people are any less then you.
It is more like having a Cardiologist diagnosing the problem then telling the heart surgeon what to fix. We don't give our fixes to a trained monkey we give them to System Administers or implementation specialists.
I would say that I am a good developer. However I am only an OK System Administrator and I often when my code is done and working well. Deploying the code offers a new set of issues to work threw.
However If I give to people who are good at taking my code and implementing it, the process runs much smoother without much problems.
Sometimes it is a good idea to avoid the gray line then to cross it. It is a case where if they did research on private legal abortions with federal funding then you are going into a gray area where you could be considered encouraging people to make a decision.
How about stemcells from infants Embillical fluid? There are a lot of sources for stem cells. Also this is only about Federal Funding, there are other sources as well.
I hope you are not serious. 1. Colleges spend millions of dollars to advertise themselves as a way to get the best careers and make a ton of money.
2. Indrusty still has a lot of areas of R&D.
3. Odly enough people actually have jobs they like to do and end up doing a lot of good and making money at it too.
4. Accedemia is no more moral then indrustry. They still want all your money and will do anything to get it. At least if you work for industry you can get real work experience and change jobs.
It wasn't about the images or the quality but the speed of download. The background, then the head and slowly going futher down. Just a slow process, what was the most interesting are the laying down where you get the leg, the head some breast then the whole body
The $2-3k uber desktop is being replaced with 2 specialized devices at $200 a pop and a laptop to fill the gap. The specialized device reduce piracy and keep it from going rampant. When you complain about DRM you should think back to the non-DRM days and honestly say how much did you pirate. What did you pirate you actually used, and probably paid for if you had no other options. I am willing to bet most of you have a few products.
Companies don't like DRM and a locked down system. It costs them a lot to keep it locked.
There are many really good teachers and also many really bad ones. And I am sure the numbers are similar in many other professions. The problem is that a string of bad teachers could ruin a life. And the good teachers may not be the ones you as a child or parent think.
Well you do vote with your dollar. However people sometimes loose the vote. The PDA failed to the smartphone probably because people remember their phone more then the PDA. I have a palm pilot that I never used much. Why I had some cool apps for it, however I didn't have it on me all the time. And when I could have used it I didnt have it. The smartphone you carry around all the time so when you need it it works.
Phones also have a cool factor. PDA are geeky devices.
So if you are going to invest millions in a product you will make sure it works as a phone as well
That is the real crux in the matter. People don't just go in and jump to a new platform which is said to be cool and inovative. Most people have a wait and see mindset. Professionals don't have the time to jump to the latest and greatest. Otherwise they spin their wheels learning all tue new stuff and never getting it done. For example, I knew about XML for years I even took a little time to understand the concept and get past the hype that was huge in the early 2000's. After a while I slowly started using it. Not from resistance to the technology but due to the fact that other methods were stile better supported. By 2005 and 2006 I started to use XML more often as it has became a good tool for manipulating data and tools were out there that saved me time.
During the months with google wave was out there I didn't even take a look to see what it does. As my current projects were already archetected.
But tides are caused by the moon and I say screw newtons 3rd law.
I think gravitational forces may not cause that problem as it will pull the moon but then pull it back when it rotates 180 degrees (as for the earths observation) I don't think those forces would create that type of an effect. Or you may be able to see more exaggerated features on Jupiter's moons.
I am not sure why flash is considered so slow for many of you.
I am using a laptop from 2006 and I never had any real speed issues, that is unless I have a bad connection nor have I noticed it justs sucking up my CPU usually a spike then it resolves itself.
Could it be that. 1. Some places write bad code for flash. 2. Your bandwith is sub optimal 3. You using a computer from the Clinton Administration
I found that flash runs just as well as any other interpreded languge in terms of speed and perfomance. No it is not like it is imbedded into your OS. But it has been getting the job done.
No it is not like slashdot to read an article then come up with some deeper evil behind an idea. Just because we don't like a couple of things the company does...
From my understanding RFID usually don't carry that much data except for a unique identifier. Ok so I se a Hex value. However you may not know what type of RFID it is is for. Eg. Is it for your credit card or is it just that book you got out of the campus book store. Perhaps it is for your medical history that you got implanted in you skin. Maybe it is your Dogs virtual ID Tag implanted.
Say if I dropped a Passord of a vital system in the Middle of New York City and you pick it up. And that password is for only one system what is the chance you will find the system and get in.
That said we should be sure that RFID for say on Credit Cards and on other major checking systems should have additional checks to it. However for say Inventory and automatic checkouts it should be ok.
Also to add that most Modern Commercial Web developers are more concerned about having computability across browsers then any Open vs closed standard. Being that Microsoft is dragging on HTML 5 support most will stay with flash as it will do what they need functionally. While supporting and working with 99.99% of the user base.
Flash works for Linux, Windows, Mac, and even for some other Unixes (how ever may not be the most updated). And for IE, Firefox, Chrome, Safari. All in all a good choice. Silverlight, I would avoid it as it isn't that much better then flash, and I see it as more of an ActiveX replacement then a Flash Replacement where it will run on the more controlled internal networks.
HTML 5 has promise and I am actually doing a lot of research into it. As it will be soon fully supported by the wider market. However it will not replace Flash and Silverlight but it will replace a lot of the need of Flash and Sliverlights basic features, which is good too. As we shouldn't need to work on a new platform just for vector graphics.
How does jobs control the market space. There are a bunch of People happy with Android phones, I am an iPhone user myself but really I don't see too much major differences somethings Android does better some things the iPhone does better. Android has been getting more market share faster then the iPhone. In general Apple isn't controlling the market at best it is Leading the market as its products are innovative enough to get competitors to imitate and improve on their designs.
Now if Adobe can get Android, RIM and Microsoft to use Flash it will push Apple to the minority. But as of right now Android has Flash as an AddOn feature, I don't know about RIM and Microsoft who I would think would rather push silverlight so someone other then Microsoft.com will use it.
Entering college we get students whos goals in life are the following.
Make a True AI/Mimic a Human Brain - If they good they will end up getting a PHD and being a computer science professor and perhaps doing some cool research on a limited area of AI. Make an Operating System which can run any code for any platform faster and more securely then the exiting OS's - If they are good they may work for a software company doing some lower level programming Make the ultimate game which will make them millions nay billions of dollars - Working as a Web Designer or if they are really lucky working on some small subset of a game.
Then in college they realize there is No Magic in computer science and a lot of things that are easy for a Human do do is difficult for a computer to do. And a lot of things difficult for people are easy for computers. You cant just tell a computer an Abstract concept and hope it know what to do with it. It takes real work and actually a fair amount of brain power for a lot of the mundane tasks that need to be done.
That is the thing about astroPhysics, that I really like. Any problems that occur isn't our fault. Here on Earth because everything is so tightly interconnected every problem can somehow be blamed on human intervention, and I am not denying that. But it is nice to have things that isn't our fault.
At the time IE5 and IE6 Rendered CSS better then Netscape did. What allowed Firefox to get headway was a few things.
(In No Particular order) Microsoft Security Holes, There was a huge set of security glitches that made windows and their computers unusable. Using Firefox even if the pages were not 100% compatible was better the a crappy hacked into Windows Box Firefox was at the time a Small fast and Light browser. Quick to Download and Ran Noticeably Faster then IE making people like it. Firefox was one of the first browsers to have a working Popup Blocker. Flash was powerful enough to quietly win the ActiveX vs. JavaApplet War. Which as fast like ActiveX and ran on many platforms like Java. Making it possible to use other browsers get a nice full experience.
If any one of these factors wern't into play IE6 would probably be even more dominate today then it is. As developers will need to code for the as much as the market share as they could.
Agreed. While like all company apple comes with some stuff that is over priced for it quality. However most of it's products are worth the price for what you get. If you spec most systems as closely match Apples specs for a prebuilt system. And make sure you match as many of the features and materials as possible. It doesn't matter if is not a feature that you want or need. But if you Do this you will see that Apple doesn't sell as as much of a premium as you think. In se products it may be cheaper. Now this doesn't mean that you should by apple products if it is loaded with features you don't want to pay for. But there prices are competitive with the rest of the market.
Johnny will repeat 6th grade again if his parents are poor or don't complain. Most of the time when the child is failing the parents are struggling to make the kid pass the grade. Unfortunately parents EGO gets in the way (of having a looser kid) and forces them to go to the next grade. While for the most part if the child repeats the grade they will often do much better in school after that.
1. They learn to take school seriously or you will be stuck in the same grade. 2. The concepts finally stick and when they go to the next grade they finally have the fundementals set. 3. Being a bit embarrassed and lossing a clique(as they advanced to the next grade and they stayed). Makes them realize what they are missing out on things.
In general I think we should encourage children retaking classes/grades. In college I retook any class that I got less then a C in. (luckily I had to do that once (Calculus as my High School Pre-Calculus was grossly limited in prepping me for Calc. )) as I know that I didn't pick up the information I shouldn't have learned from the class and if I didn't do the class again I would have been struggling threw out college. Then when I took Calc II in an accelerated summer course I got a B+ in it, and I was struggling a lot less now that I got the concepts.

Bad analogy.

As is the slow death of the PC/desktops.

Yea sorry. I forgot about that during my post.
The Shear Sort is one of my favorite sorts out there. Although you will need an orchestra to play it.

You know Android is the operating system. And has no say on the quality of the hardware it is setup on.
