people are quick to laud the CLI and bash the GUI but there are advatages to both... and the discussion is not complete without looking at all of this. I have used the command line plenty, in both Mac OS X and in other flavors of UNIX. I have never used "wc" and wouldnt have even thought to type "wc" to get a word count on a document. Word count isnt something that I have had the need for, but if I did, it would be a lot easier to discover how to do it in word (or BBEdit, which is really easy) that to try and guess what command would do it from the CLI.
since the declaration of independence is a document about the moral rights of all individuals... amongst other things... I think it should probably apply here
nobody asked why gay marriage was against the law.. they asked how it was a moral issue.
of course I hate it when people confuse the constitution and the declaration of independence... but im not really sure thats the case here
I'm not even so concerned with overturning a bush presidency (although I will admit that from my point of view that would be sweet)
Id just like to see america understand the nature of these machines... that they are not safe and reliable... that there are security holes and that there is no accountability in the long run.
thats all really...
they don't even have to find evidence of intentional fraud... hell they could even find that 100,000 kerry votes were invalid for all I care as long as it leads to an accountable voting system in the future.
but I don't hold out too much hope of that happening.
especially if those machines were in the south eastern democratic part of the state... no reason to rig machines in traditionally republican districts... no reason to even put machines in those districts.
they could find all the evidence they need of record tampering... of votes being miscast... of these machines being totally unfit for the democratic process....
and you would never see anything about it in the mainstream media....
I see... i was confused... and for the record, my passat has the trip computer with the milage calculator. thats pretty cool.
I think the reason for the different sales tactics is the markets. here in america most people are interested in performance and not extras. at least that is true in VWs market segment, while it would not be the case for say a Cadillac.
In europe I suspect the perception is different. possibly because people in europe dont seem to spend as much time on the highways as they do in the US. I can see why they would move certain features from the base model to the premium model.
Also... I really would have liked the auto wipers... but there was only one car that met my requirements within a hundred miles of my location... so I bought that one rather than order a car and wait.... I got a good deal too... so I guess its OK.
you are misinformed about the nature of japan... it is quite open with most of the population living in cities separated by open country. There are a lot of very big very nice highways (paid for by very expensive tolls)
but you are right that the Japanese don't really use these roads... they work near home or use trains for commuting primarily.
all of those features were available on the passat and the jetta when I was shopping for a car in 1999. I didnt get them because they cost more.
the self dimming mirror was really cool though, but in order to get that you had to buy the top of the line package which came with other (admittedly cool) very expensive options.
why on earth would I want to be subjected to it in the car?
I have no problem with stuff like this set up for passengers in an SUV or miniVan... must be great for dealing with the kids... but keep it out of the drivers hands
but damn... I couldn't imagine being on a runaway bike... that would be really scary (as it is anytime you loose control of a motorcycle, even for a split second). Im glad this hasn't happened to me.
when I first got my Passat I had the engine almost die at highway speeds twice.... I wasn't shifting, I was just driving along and the RPMs would drop like a stone.
in both cases they popped back up. I believe I had one of the chips replaced after the second time (this was 4 years ago, so I don't really remember) and its been fine ever since.
hail to the king baby!
after shelling out big bucks for a TIVO and maybe more time and money upgrading it.
I think I would suffer through the ads.... rather than spend the same money again on some other DVR.
imagine on the very same day...
"From the makers of Finding Nemo and Toy Story... Some other movie"
right next to the Toy Story 3 posters...
that could be very effective.
id mod you up if I could.

for further examples of this see Bungie
CONVOY!!!
even for a computer!
no its not... I used to manually synch slide shows with music on my TI-85 back home... and its not much bigger than an iPod.
Im sure its much better... I cant speak to the quality of canadian media, but around here I have been consistently disappointed.

humm... all too familiar...
It would make for quite the parallel to the ALCS.
man... this whole election has put a real damper on the world series celebration in my life.
but hey... if the sox can win the world series... anything can happen. maybe we will see a dark horse in our lifetime.

the 2.7L engine is the VR6... personaly I think the 1.8t engine is superior... sure it isnt as powerfull overall but it is lighter...
it just seems to perform better for the kinds of driving I do anyway.
And I think you are right about the rain sensors. I dont think you can get them here.

I dont watch broadcast TV IN MY HOME...

all of the internal tool and editors that produced the content were developed using Objective-C and openstep.
yes... yes they are.

Good job keeping your wits about you.

sounds similar.
funny... I was thinking a -1 might be more appropriate...

thats a +1 mod?
no it means your dog likes treats!
but you have a point... the grandparent post oversimplifies the problem.
