And attempted arson, attempted murder, attempted fraud, attempted prostitution aren't?
They are, but I believe there are specific laws making these crimes. I doubt the US Copyright act, or DMCA specifically make attempted copyright infringement illegal.
If it wasnt for Global Dimming http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_dimming this would be worse. However, since particulate pollution is being cut more than C02 global dimming is falling behind global warming.
I forgot about the 640k and memory types and other DOS annoyances, its been awhile. But DOS could have been simplified. I just suspect Microsoft wanted to control the game market via Directx. And I think they have, they dictate its requirements to the hardware companies and the game developers. Programming for 3 different APIs would be a pain in the ass, but might be good for the market. Reinventing the wheel is a good thing every now and then. The excuse of making things easier for the programmer while understandable from the point of view of cost is not from the point of view of quality. Computers are 20x or more faster than they were back then, yet the responsiveness of programs seems no faster for a lot of programs.
Perhaps worse is that you have to use Directx if you want to write a competitive game. Most chip programming architectures are secret, and the AGP spec is extremely expensive. You couldnt write your own API if you wanted to.
Directx may have been out when some of these games were made, but all were originally released DOS only as far as I remember, with the exception of GTA wich had DOS and Windows versions on the same CD. Some were later released with Windows versions. All except GTA were released prior to Directx 5(GTA was released the same year as Directx 5, I couldnt find a date)
Ya I do remember Windows just prior to Directx. PC gaming didnt need saving, you had DOOM, DOOM 2, Duke Nukem, Mech Warrior 2, Grand Theft Auto 1, Tombraider, TIE fighter, and countless others. They ran in DOS, not Windows. They had access to a computers complete resources and ran better as a result. The only thing you needed to do was plug in your soundcard values. Getting games to run on any system can be a pain in the ass if your unlucky and the game doesnt like your hardware or drivers.
Ya Directx saved PC gaming all right...Who are you Bill Gates?
Would you like to be the one who signs off on offering patients with terminal cancer a treatment that could potentially harm their health? Hmmm?
As long as they knew the risks ahead of time, yes I would. If there is a treatment that might help, but also may hurt someone who is going to die from cancer anyway, who is anyone to keep that treatment from them should they decide they want to take the risk??
I will admit its definitely possible that a company would rather treat someone at high cost for the rest of their life than cure them. However if they had the cure for cancer they could charge whatever they want for it. $250,000 $500,000 who knows. Also if a company was sitting on the cure for cancer, who knows, maybe a noble scientist would leak it.
Every few months there is a cancer break through it seems. When are we finally going to see something in the hospitals? Is it the FDA and bureaucratic red tape, are these vapor cures? If its red tape, why not bring your drug down to Mexico, I'm sure plenty of cancer patients wont mind crossing the boarder for something that works. And if they every do cure cancer, invest all your money in Philip Morris.
It's perhaps ironic that I run my own online game publishing company now and have become a dependent customer of the platform and technologies I once worked to create. Some of you might call it "justice" -- if it is, I wish it for my successors working on Vista.
Yep, he helped Microsoft shove Directx down all our throats now hes complaining, and surprised, they're trying to shove something else down our throats.
$10,000 doesnt go far in the development world. I bet Microsoft couldnt make a font for $10,000. Anyway, as we all know, these Linux programmers arent in it for the money. Now if only this gets done and a few other projects, and Ill be running Windows binaries, and playing directx games on Linux, and deleting Windows. Well heres hoping...
Capacitors having the shortest lifespan of most electrical components means if this catches on there will be less electronic waste, and more reliable machines. Although I bet these cost twice as much....
If porn is only allowed on xxx domains this would make established sites worthless. Could you even link from your old site to your new site? Effectively it would be eminent domain, except I doubt domain owners would be compensated. Domains like freep0rn.com would be worthless overnight. Not to mention the free speech issues. Perhaps Government Criticism should be limited to.gc domains.

So this map is based on what they assume the universe should look like. Then they use how its different to find where the dark matter might be. Doesnt sound 100% certain by any means, but its a nice picture.

Attempted copyright infringement?? Is that even illegal?
This has good idea written all over it.

Marketplace?? I dont think Google will be making a profit on this, even if they somehow put it online with ads.

Microsoft don't make fonts. They buy them from companies like Bitstream and then let suckers like you think they made them.
Ya they really sucked me on that one. Well at least they didnt buy DOS, or steal Windows. At least I don't pay for Windows.

Why did it take them 6 months to release the images?
Because thats how long it took to false color the image to look like a desert with lakes...
