I know very little about the subject, but I remember reading about a movie about kids who survive the bombing of hiroshima and live in a cave or something.. Something like that at least.. Can someone please give me the title so I can go watch it?
Because some webmasters a truely morons, some websites cannot be accessed by anything other than a browser reporting to be IE. For this reason Opera has an option to report itself as other browsers (Mozilla is also an option). I know I have this checked and I'm sure many others do, so so its quite likely the percentage of opera users is much higher than 2%.
Wow. All I ever wanted to do was post one little bit of critique in the form of code. I find it a little weird that Katz complains about censorship, but when you complain a little about him...
Although it seems like you would have to run millions of songs through the fingerprinting software before you could block them its really much more simple than that:
Analyze one Blink 182 song and you have them all + a bunch of crappy wanna-be bands..
Analyze one Metallica song and you pretty much have them all too..
Analyze one mp3 of Lars talking about anything and you might just save the world...
"Point oh releases, by definition, break things and cause confusion. This point-one is really nice -- very stable and well-put-together all around."
Ok. This is true with most closed source software because the X.0 release is almost considered a mass beta test. But with open source software shouldn't the releases that "break things and cause confusion" be the pre-release versions?
Was Red Hat so driven by trying to win the 7.x release race that they couldn't bother to make their software work?
Just wonderin...
"The fact is, there will be LESS polution generated at the power plants. Besides being more efficient at converting fuels to power, not every power plant is poluting. For example, us drivers in hydroelectric rich British Columbia (Motto: Keeping California's Lights Burning) would be able to enjoy guilt-free driving right now"
Let me inform you of something you might not have known. Just recently some people in washington state wanted to build a new powerplant up by the border. It was the cleanest power plant ever proposed (natural gas) in the state and, I believe, in the nation. Canada basicly complained until the program got cancelled.
why?
Because, canada makes millions on selling the US their extra power to the US. In this case there's a extremely dirty power plant just across the border that they don't want shut down.
So not all your power is as guilt free as you may have hoped.
Looks like it also has some of the original mario brothers (not SMB1, MB aka that little weird level you can into in SMB3 2p mode) in it. If we're really lucky it may be like mario all-stars or something..
When I go on napster I usually search for song names instead of artist names.
Who goes on and just does a random search for "metallica"? You'd come up with 300,000 songs!!!
Nap$ter is as good as dead anyway. I find IRC much better for what I'm doing. (downloading full albums from underground hardcore bands, then buying them if I like them. (yes I actually do that))
With all the problems medium quality GPS has indoors (especially in cities, etc) I think think any GPS reciever that could be put into a cheap boombox would probably have even more trouble.
Just read a review of a forthcoming player today that will do just that. It's called the MiSEL and it looks to set the standard for CD/MP3 players.
The Review is available @ Dmusic, the best review site for mp3 hardware I've seen. (If anybody knows of any more please share them with me!)
It'll be interesting to see the next wave of player by more major brands such as RCA. I just wish they could break the $100 price point and include a function to play *.m3u files.
I'm glad you're happy with your MpTrip, but I don't think that I would consider it the best from what I heard.
Check out Dmusic for reviews of all the hardware mp3 players. For CD/mp3 players I believe that the classic cm415 is the highest rated one that you can go out and buy. (only @ circuit city, less than $100) There are several that should come out in the next couple months (cross your fingers). One is claimed to play mp3s off a cd, and be able to rip cds to its internal harddrive much like the nomad. (or PJB for those who prefer the nicer things)The weird thing is the company claims it will be in the $200 dollar range!!!
To bad it won't probably happen..
Ok. According to my late night calculations this would mean ~4,000,000 days of 128k mp3s. I honestly am not sure if this much music exhists in the real world, but if it did I'm guessing the winamp playlist would fill up my 30gig drive.
And it's only $50?
I always take these new storage rumors the same way I take somebody telling me that apple has a new product that doesn't suck: "I'll believe it when I see it, and thats never gonna happen."
Note: If any of you mac people actually get moderator status I guess I just got moderated down...
From the Drudge Report: "THE DAY THE MUSIC DIED: NAPSTER TOLD TO STOP Court directed NAPSTER to remove links to users trading copyrighted songs stored as MP3 files... "
" I know there are plenty of college ethics classes available at most colleges that teach computer-related fields. The information and discussion is out there, and I would hope that any computer anything worth his or her salt would have taken a few of them."
Ok. I totally agree that what goes on out there everyday in the consulting field is complete BS, but I doubt making everybody take a few classes would be that much help. The guys at the consulting firm in question know they're pulling crap and don't care about the ethics. No amount of ethics teaching can change someone who doesn't have ethics.
I would say a better solution would be good old capitalism (I can hear jonkatz rolling in his grave).
If you see a company getting horrible service just offer them a better one. If you can point out the flaws with the other company's recomendations than they should, if they have any common sense, go with you instead. Not only do you save a company a lot of money and trouble, you make money!
When the founding fathers came up with freedom of speech this is exactly what they were thinking of.
Not porno, not obscene language, but the simple right to challenge the government without fear of the police knocking down your door.
I'm not one who often says lawsuits are any sort of answer to a problem, but I've seldom seen a lawsuit with as much basis for one as I see here. This department needs to be taught a serious lesson about the constitution of the USA!

Even better. I bet they left the character of thumper in...

...would've failed if they hadn't been able to discuss the assignments with a few of us students that had a brain for programming.
I'm not trying to brag, if I'd wanted advice on how to be an idiot I'd have asked them for advice.
(kidding on that last part)
Oh man.. Those were the days.. Fidonet was better than any other "online communities" I've ever been on.
...which may someday lead to a new class of smaller and faster computers that consume less power than today's machines.
Jeez.. I hope whoever to persue this "smaller, faster, more efficient" idea a raise.. What a novel idea...
Wolf 3d was just a revamp of catacombs 3d.. Don't fuck with me, I know my Apogee/Id/etc. etc. history..

The saddest thing about this is that most people won't even know about it until tommorow morning when it will be to late.
:(
The second saddest thing may be that seattle chose tonight to end its winter drought. Its raining here and so the lights are a no go

Nothing could be more 1337 than DODGE BALL ADVANCE!!!! Screw the PS2, I'm buying that!!!
