    Everything you say has laws about that. When I brought my R4 and installed only hombrew on it (this is not hypothetical BTW) what law did I break? Is the Precrime bureau going to nab me for potential piracy? More importantly, what crime did the distributor commit?

    It's an obvious idea that they most likely implemented independently. I say this because the only similarity between the models is a trivial feedback loop summed up as 'x is important if it is endorsed by important x', the methodology is completley different in each case.

    So the people that need to know to enforce the laws already know, and Google isn't being prosecuted by those who know, therefore we can assume Google isn't lying about having a diverse workplace and they have a legitimate concern about these being trade secrets.

    Yeah, it's much closer to 100% from the appstore in my personal experience. People unlock not to pirate, but to access features like multitasking.

    So a clear majority of jailbroken phones have no pirated apps at all, or as the article states "There are more people who just want extra control over their device and not an opportunity to steal apps." And of those who do pirate, they used paid apps more frequently than the pirated ones.

    Removing access to the store would result in 100% piracy rate on jailbroken phones. So exactly how is removing store access combatting piracy?

    I think this patent isn't about censorship but about copyright differences around the world and youtube/google books. If you look at different countries Project Gutenburg (I'm only familiar with the US, Canadian and Australian ones) you'll see a wide variety in what can be legally obtained in each country.

    Well the good news for kids is that we have dozens and dozens of games that are rated 17+ in the states and 18+ in Europe that are rated 15+ here with no modifications. So in the great twist, the AG is giving our kids more access to violent games than their American and European counterparts.

    That's nice to hear, and I hope you do a great job as an elected official, but here in Australia we are all too familiar with the collusion and corruption that happens between the parties and the public sector and are sick to death of it. This is just another case of incompetent public sector bungling and a bunch of typical cover your arse bullshit. It's a hopeless challenge, these buffoons have entrenched themselves so well that no change of government will shift their useless arses out of power. We're just stuck with them because the alternative (an efficient government) is far worse. We've found a solution though, it's to drink to that.

    It's simple. Every government department anywhere wants to increase their budget, not reduce it. Reduction of the budget could mean their arse on the line instead of the cushy slackarse gravy train they are currently leeching from. The lockin vendors know and exploit this, resulting in this sort of shithouse attempt at oversight. There is no solution as politicians are corrupt by nature, so all we can hope to do is stick it to them every now and then. They deserve a good sticking for this lame attempt but really nothing will come to change their cowardice and ignorance so you may as well enjoy a good drink.
