  1. Re:What about the Anti-religion app? on Apple Removes Gay Cure App From App Store · · Score: 1

The anti-bible and anti-religion app (are there such apps?) would be removed if the pro-religion or "bible study" app was removed. Religion is however a choice you make, even if your parents essentially made the choice for you, you have the choice disassociate yourself from that religion. You do not however have the same choice about who you are or what gender attracts you, because you simply cannot change it. Given that they remove such things as porn (or even anything remotely nude) because it's offensive to a small segment of the population (religious fundamentalists mainly), I don't see the problem in removing such an anti-gay app. I would be disappointed with their haphazard application of policy if they didn't remove this given that they remove apps that are offensive to Christians, even though being a Christian is very much a choice.

I'm nowhere near a fault line, so major earthquakes can be ruled out, there are no volcanoes around (I suppose if Iceland blows we could get some ash). I live in Stockholm so the Baltic is close though there's a huge archipelago that would probably slow down a hurricane/whatever before it reached me (and I live on one of the tallest hills in the city), even in the unlikely event that something like that occurs in the Baltic.
I'm not prepared at all, though if I did need to evacuate for some reason I suppose I could use my bike, that would probably be the best way of getting out of the city with all the roads jammed and trains standing still (assuming power outage). And I do have a backpack and a sleeping bag, and food could be scrounged from the kitchen cabinets I suppose.

Reading this thread makes it clear to me that I should at all costs avoid being in the US during a disaster though, millions of people running around, each of them armed to the teeth, seems liable to start small wars over remaining food and water sources.

IANA Geologist, but I doubt there's any reliable data on earthquakes from the 1700's. Human settlement was much less widespread at the time as well so many earthquakes may not have affected many people or anyone at all, thus there was no one around to tell the story, and there were no seismometers so any Richter scale estimates would probably be based on damage to human settlements, which could have been far from the epicenter.

I guess it depends on local laws, but at least here in Sweden, the bank is required to pay back fraudulent transfers and the burden of proof is on the bank. I lost my debit card once (my fault, I accidentally left the card on a bar counter after a few beers) and someone did steal it and apparently had a good time at a few bars before the money ran out. I got all of the money back after filing a police report and filing a report with the bank.
I keep most of my money (what little I have, I'm a student) out of my checking account and transfer money from another account when I need it.

Many bars and restaurants don't require either ID or PIN-code (which is technically against the law) though that's starting to change as more and more get chip and pin terminals, I guess they grew tired of having to pay out when they accepted a card that was later reported stolen and had to pay the money back to the bank.

In Sweden, one of the largest supermarket chains is a consumer coop, they have better quality overall than the privately owned chains in my experience, perhaps because of the lack of pressure to cut costs from investors who only care about the profits. In Sweden we had a military draft until recently which in the end essentially became voluntary becaue there weren't that many positions left in the army.
I personally would not like to serve in the army, it goes against every fiber in my being, and anyone opposed to the idea should not be force to join a military organization. But a "civil draft" for some necessary societal functions that most people would not voluntarily want to engage in might be a good idea.

Basic income would not be welfare, everyone gets basic income, regardless of whether they have an income or not. It's a guaranteed basic income that is there regardless, no means-testing. One of the benefits of such a program is that people can if they want to dedicate their lives to a hobby that isn't necessarily profitable, they can work part time if they want to and still have enough money to get by. It also makes it easier for people to start a business, there's always the basic income to fall back on even if the business is not profitable right away.

It's a pretty old concept and has been implemented on trial basis in a few places, with generally good results. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basic_income_guarantee

Yes, the whole system is broken. I've been saying for years that we need to racially reform society as less and less work is available. Even though it will be a very long time (if ever) before computers can take over research for instance, they can take over pretty much any repetitive taks in the medium term, including many white collar jobs. I'm an advocate of instituting a basic income, so that everyone can can have a decent life even if there is no work available. The arguments against has always been that people won't want to work, but really those very few who don't want to work at all in a world were very little work is available shouldn't, leave it to those who do, they will be much more motivated.

What does any of this rant after the first paragraph have to do with KDE/Gnome?

    1) Since most hardware manufacturers aren't even creating drivers for Linux, and you expect them to go along with putting a sticker on their hardware saying that it works with an unofficial third-party open-source driver?

2)SDK? Downloading qt and kdelibs or gtk+ isn't good enough for you? What more do you want? You can sit down at most any Linux machine and there's your SDK right there, preinstalled. There are several IDEs available if you want to use one, but why would a "standard" IDE be required? To each their own. Personally I think QtCreator is awesome for Qt/C++ applications, others may disagree..

3)The specific use case you mentioned is possible and has been possible for years. Ever heard of xrandr? It would be nice if it was possible to switch between graphics cards on the new laptops that support that, I would be hesitant to get one of those until it's supported.

    4) It's just a name, is "Linux" somehow less PR-friendly than "Android"? If Google had used the name Linux-Phone or whatever and marketed that as well as Android why would that not have worked? Besides, distributions are not called Linux, they're called "Ubuntu", "Red Hat", "SuSe", "Arch", etc.

    5) If you want to publish packages on your website and forgo the repositories, you're free to do so.
