Dude, NYCL regularly distorts facts, then when you call him on it he adds you to his foes list and accuses you of being an RIAA troll. I'm not sure when/. started covering RIAA stuff, but I'm pretty sure I've been here since long before then. But now I'm an RIAA plant?
This is the same man who states in a/. discussion that the RIAA is an international company (false, and a good clue is that one of the As stands for America:)) and that they have 4 members (false, they have hundreds). When I point this out, I am accused of being too technical. Excuse me for wanting a lawyer to present just the facts.
Because this story as presented here is wildly biased and the summary has omitted some very important details. The full story with all of the facts properly researched and fairly presented just wouldn't be a high-impact report.
Great, thanks a lot you bastard! You owe me a newkeyboard and some advise on how to get the feel of coffee out of my sinuses:)
After some of my run-ins and bizarre discussions with NYCL, I couldn't help but piss myself laughing at your comment. You do realise you'll now be his foe and accused of being an RIAA troll, right? And if he's got modpoints, you'll get a -1 flamebait for this. That's his standard response from what I've seen.
Dude, really! Hadn't you heard that profanity is the inevitable linguistic crutch of the inarticulate motherfucker? (apologies to Bruce Sherrod). You can't be using words like asserting and vacuous in the same post as fucking.
Ten years later, when the crappiest built house starts to show its age, how did the crappy builder ensure that he would be the one the current owner would call?
The problem is that too many IT people are backstabbing pussies only interested in themselves. You see, to me, people like you ARE that other guy prepared to do my job if I don't work for free.
As far as I'm concerned, until I can get my food for free, and a plumber to clean my drains for free and an electrician to fix my lights for free, I can't afford to work for free. But because there are people out there prepared to work for free, I am pushed up against a wall. So far, I've been lucky for the last 3 years and I've not done 1 free hour's labour, but it's hard to do.
This is one of the reasons that the IT industry need to organise themselves - to protect ALL of the workers, not just those with l337 skillz.
I loathed history at school. I hated it so much that I thought I just wasn't interested in the past and for 8 years after leaving school, I just never bothered to even read about the past.
Then I discovered that history doesn't _have_ to be boring. If well researched, well argued and well presented, it can actually be facinating. Now I've gone from almost exclusively reading fiction, to pretty much just reading non-fiction. Our past is fascinating, but schools kill it for people!
Instead of making a flippant remark and making me your foe, why don't you just explain why I'm wrong.
Mainly because for all the hero worship he gets here, this gentleman is not particularly pleasant to debate things with. You either get curt condecending responses, accused of being too technical or statements implying that you are an RIAA stooge. And when you rebut those, you get modded flamebait.
We see a lot of people complaining that technical people aren't patient enough with them. Watching NewYorkCountryLawyer shows that it's not just technical people who can be dicks - any expert in their field can become impatient and rude when trying to explain extremely detailed issues to people not familiar with their field.
In the end, the British healthcare system is going to be faster and cheaper because of Connecting for Health.
That's nice... Now if you could please explain to my wife why, when she lost her thumb in an accident, she had to use a toilet with shit smeared on the walls that didn't get cleaned for three days straight, I'm sure she'd understand that extra $12 billion that was spent on computers. I mean, we _had_ to fire all those cleaners to make savings, right?
If you could explain to her why on three separate occasions when she had an appointment to see the osteo specialist at the hospital she arrived 20 minutes before her appointment, waited over 3 hours and then was told to come back some other time, I'm sure she'd like that.
All I'm saying is that maybe the NHS could have used that 12 billion a little more efficiently. Like cleaning the shit off the walls in their ward toilets. Or hiring enough nurses and doctors so that she could have had the operation on the day that the accident happened instead of having to wait for the next day, which caused complications that she will never recover from.
I hate the NHS and the British government and everyone involved in making them as shit as they are with all my heart and soul for what they did to her. I've been in emergency wards in third world countries that were cleaner, better equiped, better staffed and more able to deal with actual emergencies. These people should be embarrased for stealing that $12 billion from people who's lives it could have changed.
I think it's fair to class it as a failure when the people who it is designed for finally get a look at it and explain all the ways in which it absolutely won't work for them.
Out of curiosity, what country are you from? Because I believe that they are also talking about implementing this foolishness in the UK, home of English:)
Have you ever read the V for Vendetta graphic novel ? I read it recently and the thing that scared the living crap out of me was the authors' introductions. They were written in the late 80's / early 90's and they were scared of the government at that time. I would hate to see what they think of the place now:(
When did these people try to blow up any planes? I must have missed that...
No-one was found with plane tickets, bombs, etc. People were allegedly plotting to blow up planes but did not have the equipment or travel documents required to do so.
I fully agree. At one point he made statements to the effect that the RIAA was an international body (despite one of the As standing for America) and that there were only 4 companies involved.
When I pointed out that it was an American organisation made up of hundreds of companies his response was along the lines of 'boy are you technical'.
Yes, I can be a little technical, and I'd hope that a lawyer discussing his field of expertise would also choose to be technical in his discussions.
That's fine for money that he already has, but how does he know he's not getting stiffed when people give him change?
Damn, I thought SA was backwards, but we've had excellent support for the blind with regards to currency there for years.

Ten years later, when the crappiest built house starts to show its age, how did the crappy builder ensure that he would be the one the current owner would call?
10 years? Ye gods you're an optimist!

Could care less means that you care about the current situation and could care less than you currently do.
Couldn't care less means that you absolutely do not care.
Wasn't there an MS patent covering the FAT filesystem recently overturned?

Heh - it's one of my dreams, to do my first jump course off of there. One day I'll make it out there :)
The UK are also talking about implementing this foolishness. As in it's not just New Zealand doing it.

No... I work for a bank, but thanks for asking.
Try not to accuse everyone who picks on you of being an RIAA stooge, it just makes you look silly.
