    And then there is math and there is math. If I remember correctly, stats are exquisitely nuanced thing, mostly dealing minute details of the underlying assumptions. One thing to master the mechanical math underlying stat, actual mapping to an application in social context is a black magic.

    Serious question. How concrete are the info on these cyber warfare news? It seems almost always Chinese or Russian being reported as the perps, followed by posts claiming we* do the same to them, etc. With botnet and other multiple indirections involved, how credible are the tracing info?

    * "We" as in the most baddest, most awesomest country in the world. I won't insult your intelligence with further elaboration.

    Those of you that get kick out of jumping on creationists, spaghetists, etc., why don't you take a whack at this? Bad science is much worse than religious dogma.

    Btw, "irrationality" of human behavior is bogus. It's akin to saying "if she was smart like me, she would do otherwise". Even the lunatics have their reasons, and information she has is different than yours. The economists came up with the concept of utility function, that can pretty much discard the distinction between rational/irrational, and "irrationality" seem to keep popping up in the discussion of economics.
