The letter you received from them may be illegal then, they are supposed to wait for your ISP to forward the DMCA to you, then you forward it down to the person who posted the content. Kinda like a playing pass the parcel with a letterbomb, where everyone who takes off a wrapper is safe so long as they handle it the way it should be handled.

In any case, get some legal advice :)

Note that by following this and forwarding a copy of the DMCA take-down to the user who posted it (assuming it was not you) you should be able to claim safe-haven, since you are only "the messenger".

I looked into this recently myself since I help maintain a forum, although my experience is with the slightly mutated Australian version of the DMCA.

Yeah, I hear one of the things they are looking to add back into the game in 4.5 (when it launches) is role playing!

Seriously, we are playing through one of the suggested campaigns with a good GM atm, and there is just no opportunity to role play these damn things, they have simply removed the skills needed in most cases, or just changed the rules in others to discourage it.

Enjoying WW "world of darkness" a whole lot at the moment, you can do so much more in regards to character development and all you need to get going is 2 books... (core rulebook and whatever race you are playing).

Valve had this to say in the latest steam news...

The short film Escape from City 17: Part One, viewable on YouTube via the link below, was inspired by the Half-Life 2 episodes and chronicles the escape from City 17 by some members of the citizens resistance. It was created by The Purchase Brothers, a commercial directing duo, and their small team based in Toronto, Canada. They have been Half-Life enthusiasts from the start and have created this short, the first in a series, on a shoestring budget using handmade costumes, some donated equipment, and the Source SDK, not to mention lots of their own blood, sweat and (we assume) tears. It was sent to Valve unannounced, and we were blown away -- the production quality certainly exceeds that of the usual community-made movies we see. We're told the second episode is nearing completion, and we can't wait to see what's in store. We hope that you enjoy the series.

PLEASE NOTE! This live-action video contains scenes of blood and harsh violence, and may not be appropriate for younger audiences or sensitive viewers.

Seems they liked it too :)
