I wouldn't think a computer would run very well with this. I remember getting Geodes for Christmas and they were pretty cool to break open and look inside, but I doubt it would be able to run a computer especially after hitting it with a hammer!!!
I agree, this is some really interesting stuff. I am actually surprised that no one has thought of this already, the idea is very simple.
I am not a big singer, but maybe I want to lay down a riff on my keyboard or guitar. It would be interesting to see what kind of accompaniment it generated.
From here, maybe you'd get even more ideas. I am not convinced something like this could be used to produce serious music. I do however think it would be cool to use it as a jamming buddy or even just as catalyst for ideas.
All that being said, the demo songs were truly awful and seemed to be using the GM voices of the sound card which gives it the cheesy sound other folks mentioned. Easy enough to fix.
I am glad they used YouTube and didn't spend big bucks developing their own solution. In the unlikely events that:
a. YouTube deletes their video
b. YouTube ceases to exist
They have the original videos and can always do something else with them. It's kinda like saying that we'd have to create a government funded TV network to host debates.
Sometimes idealism just isn't practical so you have to pick your battles.
Id be willing to pay for Pandora, but frankly there just isn't enough music at this point. If you have a broad selection of music on your station, you probably won't get repeats.
In my situation, I've created a station for NY style hip hop, but have yet to hear anything I haven't heard before since I started listening.
In fact, it seems like Pandora is just using a series of playlists and including them into a bigger playlists based on your tastes. If they added a bigger variety of music, and perhaps stuff that was only released on vinyl, I would definitely pay a subscription fee.
I doubt the Dell support people would have been much help. I ordered some stuff from Dell a few years ago, and need to return it. It wasn't a pleasant experience, and as a result, I would never do business with Dell again.
From what I've found about tech support, most of the support people (including Dell) simply read from their script and don't understand most of the questions you ask.
Really Dell is in the wrong, and the computer was a good execute for the student to drop out of classes.
The article left out a very important category: the best keyboard for music. Everyone has their own personal preference, but I prefer this vintage bad boy.
I think there will be more developers looking for work in the future, but I don't think the price is going to drop THAT much. I just think you'll be able to find qualified developers more easily.
As for the article, it makes a lot of sense when you're running in a controlled environment. It's really a no brainier in consulting work. Upgrading hardware or optimizing software will both meet the customers needs only the hardware upgrade is $2,000 and the software optimization costs $20,000.
Of course, if you're releasing software into the wild and it needs run on many different machines you better make sure it performs well especially if it's a retail product. So spend the extra money and make it really good.
I would say Wii games are not child oriented at all, just simple and fun. I'll admit that there aren't a TON of games I want to play for Wii, but there are more than enough. Metriod, Super Mario Galaxy, Megaman 9, Excite Truck, Mario Kart, all are great games. Plus it's a great console when friends come over. I have a number of titles for 360, but the only game I play on a regular basis is halo.
And what is your point really? I am not sure how much we pay in state taxes, but we do not get any state aid.
Said another way, we get $0.00 back from the State.
Of course NYC prides itself on being a very liberal state, and Joe Biden has said that paying taxes is a civil duty.
Fixed that for ya. Talk to anyone outside the NYC area and they'll agree that taxes are way too high. The worst part is that local tax monies are sucked up and re-distributed to NYC.
Leisure Suit Larry 7 had both, in a sense. You could interact with something, and it would give you a list of actions. If you didn't like them, you could type in your own.
I really don't think the clicking/vs typing argument holds much weight. It's really all about the quality of the puzzles. You can still randomly try out commands
The frustrating thing about some older adventure games to me is that you'd know how to solve a given puzzle, but you'd have to "fiddle" with the command in order to get it to work.
It's hard to believe that NASA would be against their program being cut.
While I like the space program,if it's going to be cut spending on nothing or cut spending on the space program I would pick the former. While I'd prefer to cut other things, NASA spending is probably one of the easier things to cut, from a political standpoint.
Which is fine for the most part but I think peoples lack of care over things like MVC, nicely written code, etc has really ruined the web.
I disagree. I've been using the web since the Mosaic days, and I must say - it's better than ever! You can find what you're looking for more quickly, the content is richer and there is more of it.
A particular design pattern is NOT a silver bullet. I've used M$ Ajax/.NET to develop some websites and applications, and I was very pleased. Sure, it could use improvement, but what cant? Using it was way better than try to do some of the things manually. If the application works well and the code is maintainable, you have succeeded. As long as you plan out your application properly before you start writing it, things will go smoothly down the road.
I've worked on a project with C code that dates back to the 80's. It's not OO and doesn't knowingly follow any strict design patterns, but guess what? It's easy to follow, well documented, and above all, it does it's job!
I will say it again: If the application works well and the code is maintainable, you have succeeded.
The video after you play the game is the best part
"Turkeys throats are slit while they're actually ALIVE!!!!!"
Ummm, duh, I think that is kind of the point.
Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year.
I don't like the idea of mandating anything. Once you mandate community service, it isn't service any more it's unpaid labor. I went to a private highschool for a couple years, and there was a program like this. Students would lie on the forms or get signed off on something they're already doing as service. Nice idea, but not practical.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, don't waste our tax dollars on this. That being said, I think people do need to get more involved in their communities, but it should only be done freely and willingly.
The majority of music in Rock Band/Guitar Hero is pretty popular. I've heard every single song on the radio. Yeah it's rock, but the titles are also Rock Band and Guitar Hero not Pop Singer.
I am a big fan of hip-hop, but I don't think it would be that much to play in a rock band setting. It's centered around rhythm and lyrical flows rather than a melodic progression. There are of course as always, exceptions.
As for the next version of DDR,I wish they'd license some Wu-Tang.
At the start of the campaign, I didn't hate either candidate. I figured I might actually vote for one of them. Both Obama and McCain showed flagrant disregard for the wishes of the people by voting for the bailout. I cannot bring myself to either of them now. I will be voting for a 3rd party candidate just as I have in the past two elections.
You DO have a choice:
Bob Barr - Libertarian
Chuck Baldwin - Constitution
Cynthia McKinney - Green
Ralph Nader
That is exactly right. From the sound of the article, the files were in plain sight for anyone who had access to the network (though it is unclear). If they are going to charge the kid, then the network engineer should be hit with the same charges.
There is definitely some minimum amount of security required, or else it's just pure negligence. Anyone who's ever administered a server knows they are probed ALL the time.

Yeah, but where are the games?
I am more a fan of this version of crossfire.
The article left out a very important category: the best keyboard for music. Everyone has their own personal preference, but I prefer this vintage bad boy.
Am I the only one who doesn't find these comics funny? I just find it to be an uninspired commentary on videogames and geek stuff.

Irony. The opposite of wrinkly.

TINSTAAFL.
Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?
I am a hobby chemist. I make things like pies, cakes and coconut cookies. Tonight the kitchen, tomorrow the world!
