Keep in mind that with a Mac, you're still locked in to a single vendor.
Define your use of the word "vendor."
If a business buys a PC from Dell, it's tech support staff will deal mainly with Dell for hardware and support. Microsoft support only seems to become evident when MS products have issues (excluding the OS, which would be another Dell support call). This is what I experienced working at Miles Kimball anyway, where we rolled out 1500 Dell PCs last summer before I finished my internship.
Now, with Apple, you buy a computer from Apple, and you get hardware and software support from Apple. What is so wrong with that? IMO, I would prefer to have the maker of the OS also produce and sell the hardware. I don't want to have decide who I should call for support, and get bounced around between companies (although I don't think I've ever had to call Apple's support for my machines, but that's anecdotal).
But I do understand what your are saying. When it comes to personal modding of a machine, buying non-Apple hardware gives you an advantage in choice. Although I think in a large business setting, that is less applicable because as a business, you would want to deal primarily with the people who sold you the hardware.
I was even more suprised when I realized how many people from Iran are in Orkut. Country which is called "part of Axis of Evil" has Free Internet Access - greatest invention ever. What about North Korea? Nothing. There are no people from N.Korea in Internet.
Did you just come to the conclusion that Orkut == the Internet? *shivers* I would hate the Internet if it were that terribly slow all the time.

You let me run the games I want to play, the industry-standard word processing and publishing software I need to use in my job, and haven't crashed on me in months. You security is solid, enough said.
I'll be home by 6.
News flash, we don't all "want" the same thing, and your "industry-standard" runs just fine on OS X. What exactly do the mods find "Interesting" about this dribble?
The town maintains the images in a tightly kept database known as a geographic information system, which a judge declared to be public records last December. The Connecticut Supreme Court announced Monday that it will hear the town's appeal of that ruling, expediting the case by leap-frogging the state Appellate Court. The move virtually coincides with the third anniversary of the initial complaint in the case, which Greenwich resident and computer consultant Stephen Whitaker filed with the state Freedom Information Commission after the town denied his request for an electronic copy of the entire database for security and privacy reasons.
I dunno about you, but I had no idea what those meant either.....until I read the submission.
Too bad we're a distributor, and an indie distributor at that. We carry about 100 exclusive indie labels, many of which don't release a whole lot of music, and would rather pay their artists than a bunch of lawyers. And if you want to talk about a legit company, tell me why the ROMS website is involved with a banner exchange that links to porn websites with banners that display nudity.
There's a minimal royalty stipulated in legislature, you can negotiate above it (although, why would you?) or below it (if you can get a label to agree to smaller payout). Russian Society for Multimedia and Digital Networks is the agency responsible for collecting royalty fees and distributing them to the labels and private musicians.
Could you (or anyone) elaborate on this? I work for an indie music distro and recently a number of our exclusive labels noticed some of the russian download sites and asked us about them. None of the labels, or artists they represent get any "royalty fees" or even have any idea how these sites get the music in the first place. Maybe I'm misunderstanding something here, but the link you posted (and the links from it) sound like a bunch of bullshit judging on what we've experienced.
So the guy doesn't think we should continue the war against terrorism, he's not for any gun restriction, and he thinks we can just ignore that, yes, terrorist cells are/were operating in this country.
Could you point where he said these things? I would be interested to see since the original quote you posted proves absolutely nothing.
Okay, so I was wrong about the pie chart, but who the hell is "unsure" about being the target of extortion? Those people should be counted as "No".
Haha yeah I thought that too. I also like how they just have the chart sitting over there with no mention of it. The article itself just isn't very good, could've safely stayed in the ugly IT section:P
If you look at the chart on the left side of the screen, you'll see the question: Has your company or any employee been the target of cyberextortion?. And, as indicated in the pie chart, 70% of those surveyed said No, just as the poster indicated. And in reference to the story only being about DDoSing, if you read the whole article you see:
Cyberextortion mostly travels under the radar, but not always. Earlier this year, Myron Tereshchuk, 42, of Maryland, pleaded guilty to one count of attempting to extort $17 million from intellectual-property company MicroPatent LLC. He faces up to 20 years in jail. Tereshchuk threatened to leak confidential information and launch denial-of-service attacks against intellectual-property attorneys worldwide if he wasn't paid.
In January, Thomas Ray, 25, of Mississippi, was indicted for allegedly claiming to have found a security flaw in Best Buy Co.'s systems and threatening to expose and exploit that flaw unless he was paid $2.5 million. A trial is expected this fall. And last year, Kazakhstan hacker Oleg Zezev was sentenced to 51 months for illegally entering Bloomberg L.P.'s systems and threatening to disclose the break-in if he wasn't paid $200,000.
The first one threatened DDoSing in addition to leaking info, and the other examples had nothing to do with DDoS.
Am I the only person who hides the buddy icons and who turns off the ability for other people to set fonts for me to see?
No, you must certainly are not. Avatars I can usually deal with, but with AIM at least I can disable on them on a user-by-user basis. But I basically started using backwards smileys to avoid the damn emoticons becaue originally they couldn't be disabled. (:
And the good news is if you have the updated version of Windows (Windowws XP SP2) then you aren't affected by the similar critical flaw either but it's different when it's OSS huh?
I believe you just said "The good news is good, but it's different when it's good news huh?"
So to answer your question, yes, good news is good news.
Believe me, I agree with you 100%. But keep in mind this is Slashdot, and every person here seems hell bent on correct the editors. No, they don't do a great job all the time, but do people really have to criticize every time they f something up? An editor isn't ever going to read a comment like that and feel the need to better his/her editing of these blurbs. It just gets old seeing those comments all the time.
Oh wow that's so important thanks for pointing it out! I had NO idea what was meant by that sentence until I read your comment. Hah, effect, those silly editors! Man, you are a life saver, I missed the WHOLE point of the submission until you pointed that out. And it's SO great you got modded up so I wouldn't miss your post!
Includes all the functions, too. Without advertizements.
And don't forget the comments!
I've found more useful information and custom functions in the comments than any other php reference website.

I have a Geforce2 MX 32MB and it runs MOH:AA, GTA3, and GTA3: Vice City just fine (: Not to mention it's used, and was free.
Ack, Google News is still beta. Oops.

You're still missing the second answer :D
I am in the U.S.
Maybe I just hate the Patriots, they always make my Colts look like shit ):
"World Series" is applied to a US-only baseball league.
Also happens with the NFL. The team that wins the Super Bowl are the "World Champions." I've always hated that.
