It's nice seeing a telco standing up for its users. The individual ISPs are too small to make a big difference, but Verizon is an 800 lb. gorilla in the field.
Moderators are insane. I see no evidence that meta moderation works (as I've suspected all along) and I am consistently disappointed with the results of the system.
Pardon? Each MP3 downloaded doesn't come with an MP3 player. Thank God. All they have to do is remove the MP3 player and continue to allow the rampant piracy of software.
Same here. I long ago assumed that Betamax (the consumer stuff) had been killed. I'm really quite surprised to see that it lasted through even the early '90s. How many people actually used it? All the people I knew who had a Beta VCR in the '80s dumped it when it was clear that VHS was going to win.
Has anyone here had any CDPD experience? I recently purchased an AirCard 710 for use with AT&T GSM/GPRS service, and it was awful. The hardware was flaky and coverage was dismal. I'm thinking about going to CDPD with Sprint, but am pretty discouraged after my GPRS experience.
I sure wish they would have used the available objects, though. Their text widget remains really, really awful. I'm happier using Cocoa applications, not custom-coded almost-right-but-not-quite interfaces that work subtly differently and are frustrating therefore.
Wow. He's a troll, eh? I must be getting old. The contentful observations of the real world are greater trolls than the clever [ahem] respellings of words.

It would be interesting to identify those readers (by identifying accounts that haven't logged in since then) and sending Taco or someone like that to interview the families (assuming they are comfortable with their names being released) and posting those interviews. Alternatively, it could be a traditional/. interview, with everyone asking questions. It would have to be handled delicately (ahem), but it could be quite moving and quite worthwhile.
Why would anyone want to run Win 2k on Mac hardware? If you've already spent the $1000+ for a Mac, why not run the best OS out there on it? All of the arguments for x86 OS X work in revernse: why would people buy a big Mac when a $300 PC can run the OS? (I don't necessarily believe all of those arguments, but they apply here.)
Are you kidding? There's enough annoyance to go around. Fritz Hollings is a good old-fashioned Dixiecrat. There are as many right-wing frothers here are there are pinko commie queers. The further in one direction one goes, the more convinced he is that everyone else is on the other side. Look at the breathless claims of a biased media. Remember the impeachment? Remember Marc Rich? Remember Whitewater? Remember what came out of all of that? A tired US public, nothing more, nothing less. The news fanned the flames because the news thirsts for a story. They don't care from what direction it comes, they just care if it sells more ads for Gatorade to the target demographic.
Have you listened to talk radio these days? It's like Bill Clinton's still in office. It's bizarre! They're locked in fatal copulation (picture any number of icky-looking insects that mate and die) with the Clinton administration. They can't move on -- it feels too good and pays too well. And like flies to a porch light, there's little chance they'll get anything out of it other than attracting all of the other flies to their same light.
Hand-waving fanatics become their own parodies after enough time passes, it's simply incumbent on the informed citizenry to ensure that the damage accrued over the course of that time is not fatal.

There's a difference between censorship and standards.

Where is the Slashdot effect?

That's all blatant speculation and assertions with no supporting facts. Why not think that Apple wouldn't be like MS? Apple is a monopoly over what?
And what do cash reserves have to do with behaving properly?

Not manufacture, maneuver. "Roger that ground, we're going to perform a Santa Cruz operation at fourteen niner. Over..."
Wow.
SCO has always been my favorite company name. It's just so generic. Santa Cruz Operation. It sounds more like a fighter plane maneuver than a company.
Aesthetic? It's functional. I love my mac because it's aesthetically pleasing, I continue to buy more because it's functional.
He probably means windows. The genie effect.
"The other guy did it already, so he has an advantage." Well, yea. That's why he has the advantage. :)

Or IHBT.
This is offtopic, but come on! "Get's?" What in the world made you do that?
Ellen rocks my world.

Woe betide the poor hapless private who loses his balance and leans on the tank to steady himself. Shazam!

Offtopic yes, creepy? Yes.
Now I have proof that my P4 makes the Internet go faster!
That sucks. If you can't have the fastest processor, have the fastest benchmark program!
