  1. Why doesn't anyone have a look at human nature on Biofuels Coming With a High Environmental Price? · · Score: 1, Insightful

The simple fact of the matter is this, there are too many people on this planet. We save too many, we help those living in a desert (move to where the water is available) we save those don't help move society, we save everyone.

Every environment has a max number of ppl it can sustain. People, not animals, because animals don't USE the environment like people do.

The best of the best animals lead the herd, the fish with the most plentiful breeding habits survive, the most aggressive plants weed out the others... and mankind takes all the sick, invalid, and infirmed with it to "ensure equality for all"

I never saw a weak willed horse eat, in my 20 years of horse breeding. The one who was bullied out of food, died off first in the heard.

Nature's other creatures, feasted off the dead. And other creatures off them. and others.

Our dead are encased in steel tombs to not even enrich the grounds that might have given them food!

  2. How to win freinds, and use people... on Geeks in Management? · · Score: 0

Having been mid-management before (shift supervisor, then later shop supervisor) I can offer some tips.

    1) Trust no one. Lest of all "your" employees or your boss.

    2) Remember the immortal words of Scottie to LeForge, "How do you expect to be known as a miracle worker, when you tell them how long it will actually take?" Best advice, double the time, double the money required, and triple the downtime required to implement.

    3) While not trusting anyone, ASK people to do things for you. Not the "If you could do that it would be great, mmmkay?" sort of asking, give someone a task, tell em to do you a favor and get it done quick.

    4) Remember to REWARD those who DO what you ask them to when they hurry for you... (early off work, recognition as your best help on the particular job)

    5) Those who don't perform for you, punish with menial tasks for a day or two. Make them see its in their best interest to do what you "ask" them too.

    6) Never ever be afraid to get rid of someone who doesn't work well with you. Personality clashes are a bitch, and hard to deal with, so why deal with it. Transfer them and make tham an SEP (Someone Elses Problem)

  3. Re:YOU COULD ALSO USE AN UPGRADE... on Honda Updates ASIMO · · Score: 0

In your brain. Tell me just what you lame environmental post, had to do with Honda's robotics development? We could build a robot to gently club the animals to death. Or maybe many people take the same approach I do. I need the long range target practice on the farm...

I was wondering about that. Now that all the EE are out, when is the Special Extended Trilogy DVD pack coming out, with MORE unseen footage.

Personally I want to see where Hugo Weaving says, "Mr Frodo, I see you've been living two lives..."

  6. Expenced? NOT! At least not here. on Does Your Company Pay For Broadband? · · Score: 1

I work for a small telco/ISP/wireless company, that owns all its own equipment. However, we employees are required to pay the same rates as our customers for our wireless services, but I guess we are lucky in that we DO get a free dial up account.

    At least thats my experience.

  7. Is in in the budget on Learning to Say No in the Workplace? · · Score: 1

I always ask if said software is in the building, next how critical it is versus the current workload, and then the all important question, is there cash in *MY* budget to do this job. Nothings sends em packing like asking for cash to get it done. Start talking about overtime, and they go running.

  8. RL? We don't need no stinking RL!! on Working with ADHD? · · Score: 1

Well, while not diagnosed with ADHD, having ADD isn't that bad for me, I mean its made my relationships suffer, but being immersed in my computer world (office network, home network) keeps me sane.

Everything else in the world can go away once I "zone out" on the monitor, hours melt. This is great for work on the PC, but horrible for tasks outside the realm of the PC (like other office chores) So what I've done is to lave a radio on, a particularly evil radio station, that annys the hell out of me. Makes me want to get up and walk around to get away from it.

And as far as a relationship? Forget it, I get home, BAM, right on the machine for another 5-6 hours.

Abandon hope, all ye who post here...

  9. The one good movie I've seen. on On Hollywood and the Portrayal of Computers · · Score: 1

Abou the only movie I've seen that was a good representation of hacking, was Sneakers, with Robert Redford. The very beginning, set in the sixties, with an old (I think) Kaypro was priceless. The fact that computers are boring to the general public, has to be made up for by the rest of the film. You can't have the computers being the centerpiece of the movie, without getting unrealistic and cheesey. Someone had mentioned that Wargames was pretty good. I disagree, the scenes with Daviv at his terminal were good, (the Altar and the 8 in disks were a trip down memory lane) but the learning-capable WOPR? Gimmie a break. I know Hackers will come up. While Hackers is a good movie to show the hacker culture, the technical aspect of it was pure bunk. Do you actually see a graphical representation (with fancy-shmancy graphics) when you look at code? Also show me a server room that was more for looks (big plexy towers, large unusable keyboards made into desks) that a real Network manager would use. Now the nerve center in Jurassic Park was about right. Stations everywhere, boxes (3 or 4) on desks, and the (hollywood needed) hackers station which is close rival to an EPA superfund site of pizza, jolt, coffee and/or twinkies. But alas, someone thought the graphic displays could use some jazzing up, and so ruined. In short, if they made a movie, that realistically represented computers, with would never make money, since the viewing sheep, er, I mean population are so obsessed with Armageddon/Phantom Menace fx in films.
