Thats all well and good. Unfortunately some of us take attacks on the First Amendment (squelching Geohot via DMCA) by a FOREIGN corporation seriously. What Sony has done here is not a trivial matter.
I let the root kit thing go, I let the killing of Lik-Sang go, but there is no way in hell Im going to allow outright theft from me (OtherOS, bought and paid for feature) and a direct assault on the First go. Fuck that and fuck your 'whiner' rhetoric.
Why wouldnt they? At the very least inspect it to make sure its not malfunctioning. Its trivial to pull a single machine and inspect it compared to the risk of it paying out more jackpots erroneously . The law of large numbers has nothing to do with possible technical problems.
I dont really care about it being taken up by the masses. Is there a stand alone point to point video client between 2 machines? I dont care about a directory service etc. Basically each side exchanges IPs and then fire up their clients and one sends a request to start video chat. Like back in the olden days when we used to play online games by connecting to our friend's quake server IP.
Thats not the point. Having a nice PC to PC video connection would be handy. Why do you need to stick a server/service in between them to connect? I shouldn't have to connect to some third party to make a PC to PC video call.
WHY does chrome have to de-nest the entire conversation before i can comment? Every time i put a cursor in the response box it de-nests another comment. SO i go back and re put the cursor in the box and it de-nests again. This continues until the convo is flat. FUCKING WHY????
Back on point. There is nothing wrong with yelling fire in a theater per se. when it becomes a wrong is when people are hurt/injured/loss of business as a result of your false representation. You are free to yell fire in a theater as much as you want up until it AFFECTS OTHERS. Becasue you are using inflammatory speech (lying about imminent danger) you are not protected if your claims turn out false and you acted maliciously. Freedom of speech does not mean you are free from the consequences of said speech. I think you are being quite obtuse on purpose.
Also your example is a poor logical example. "The President is stupid" is an opinion, and quite free from prosecution. But say "I want to kill the President' in public and you just lost freedom of speech on the matter and are subject to penalty.
Actually I can OWN a car and legally take anything off it i want and there is nothing the government can do about it. Now if I want to OPERATE that car on public roads, then yes your comment applies.
Ownership and license to operate on public roads are two different things entirely.
The fire example is used to show the CONSEQUENCES of exercising free speech, not its limits. You have every right to yell 'fire' in a theater, but if said speech causes a distress or danger to other citizens, then there will be consequences for that action.
Either way the term is not exclusive to one sub-genre of game types, which was the true point i was trying to make. 'Schmup' is the video game exclusive term, 'Shoot em up' enjoys wider use.
One thing about the HOA. By federal law they cannot prevent you from putting up an antnenna except in special circumstances.

A shoot'em up can be any high action entertainment with lots of shooting. They were calling movies 'shoot em ups' long before shmup video games (which i believe would be the right term.) A schmup can only be a video game but a shoot em up can be any type of video entertainment that shoots alot. In this case the wikipedia article is a bit narrow.
To me 'basic' cable is hooking the wire to the tuner on the back of the TV. Anything above that is not 'basic' cable. The era of basic cable having 70-80 channels died around 2003-2005.
Totally agree. MS won this round of consoles in a big way. They are going into the next generation stronger then anyone else. Nintendo is going ot have a REALLY hard time capturing the casual audience again like the did with wii.
I was a big PS3 supporter in the beginning because i really liked the hardware ( say what you like, the PS3 hardware is MILES beyond the crudity of the Xbox 360), but they are dead to me now.
No this is exactly the direction i expected them to go. Like it or not, the Xbox is poised to be THE cheap, full featured modern cable box in the streaming era. You can buy a brand new Xbox for $200 and MS still makes a profit on it, and big opportunities to sell you more intangible stuff. Its a great loss leader since people see 'oooo hardware'.Give away the tangible, sell the intangible, very very smart.
Can we jsut get community wide IT infrastructure labeled as public works please? During the New Deal era, were toll road operators suing to prevent the national highway system? The idea that we should worry about private enterprise profits at the cost of public works is retarded.
I call shenanigans on $178 for BASIC cable and internet. I bet any money you have a cable box that is probably a DVR as well as supports HD channels. None of that is basic cable. Your 5/1 service cant be more then $50/month in the US
Your 'in an ideal world' makes no sense. In an ideal world we wouldnt have to worry about petty nationalism. These things are made where they are because cost of labor is cheap there. If the ipad was made in America it would cost almost 25-50% more what it does now. That makes sense how?
Well it seems obvious that the feature was designed around an integrated calendar perspective. Its not just an alarm in this context, its a scheduling event on a larger scale. I totally get what you are saying, I'm simply adding that its not JUST an alarm clock, its a part of a calendaring and scheduling system.
Quantity has a quality all its own. Nowhere does this imply that its a 'good' quality.

Money = force
I would also like to add that it is the first COMMERCIAL model. Researches do have research grade designs and models.
Its just SO wrong that we need a guide on how to buy TRAVEL with cash.
I have an ARM laptop you insensitive clod!
Many posters above you disagree, often with more knowledge. Post more relevant info to back up your claim or hush.

Exactly. Freedom of speech doesnt mean freedom from consequences of said speech. Never has, never will.
I think your estimate is WAY too high. Also the frame of the car could be shaped with a protected pocket for the device anyways. 10-15 lbs at most.

Sounds more like a gatherer than a 'hunter'
