The era of pocket cell PHONES is over, now is the rise of pocket computers. i realize you are trying to make point blah blah blah. I get the part about the providers slurping at the trough of personal data but bitching about having to install a firewall on a networked COMPUTER is silly. The reality is that to have expansive functionality, you need to make security compromises. This is true across the computing spectrum and security in general. Its easy as hell to lock down a computer, simply turn it off. For those of us who have to use our computers (desktop and mobile), the want for expandable functionality requires extra security measures. Compromise is the key term here.
I totally disagree. Its video quality is great if you have the connection to support it FOR WHAT THE SERVICE IS. Its a fucking video jukebox in the sky and the video is still WAY better then ANYTHING i had as a kid. If you want ultimate quality go to Blu-ray and suck up $25 per title. FOR WHAT NETFLIX IS, the quality is excellent.
Businesses are generally PRIVATE property owned by CITIZENS. Inspections for safety are in the public's interest, it makes sense and even then they cant just barge into sensitive and trade secret areas on a whim. No one from OSHA could force their way into a building through use of force or violence.
Police action fishing for copyright compliance is not the same thing at all. Do i really need to write out a long post to explain the difference between safety regulations and criminal law enforcement in a free society?
Funding and supporting the arts is the mark of an advanced society. In your opinion it is government waste. I'm sure there is a ton of pork in these programs, but the government does have an interest in expanding our culture through art. The idea of supporting the arts through tax coffers is not new or unusual. Its not just 'wasted' money.
A. You CAN dodge a bullet at long enough ranges.
B. You can dodge light-speed fire in a universe where information can travel faster then light (subspace comms)
C. IM really confused as to what frame of reference you are using to determine that phaser fire is slower then a bullet.
Im fine with the allowing custom firmware like on Iphone, but asking to also allow it on PSN is too far. Its my machine i can modify it as I like, but in no way does that mean i should expect/demand Sony to allow my rogue hardware on their network.
Jailbreaking an iphone and using it on ATT is not the same thing at all. (common carrier vs custom content network)
And extended copyright costs EVERYONE money. It cuts both ways. Until we get sanity in copyright and IP law you are never going to have the moral high ground. You may have the legal high ground but thats not the same thing at all.
We use Newton's work every day, should we be paying his estate in perpetuity? All these arguments ignore the fact that the LAW is HORRIBLY broken. Using someone's IP without permission might be wrong but so is the crazy licensing agreements we allow companies to get away with. There is more then enough wrong to go around to both sides.
There is the question of the law itself, which has been twisted HEAVILY in favor of the copyright side of the BARGAIN. Copyright holders have no RIGHT to copyright extension, it was granted through corruption and money changing hands. It is in no way a benefit to promote the arts and sciences to give perpetual copyright.
I find nothing wrong with the outright civil disobedience of copyright law until balance is restored. You can call that a rationalization if you want. I call it not being personally shackled by laws that were bought and paid for and not made for the benefit of mankind.
Your statement in NO WAY excuses Sony from removing it. Its UNPRECEDENTED. This is like Ford remotely disabling all air conditioning in every model car they make because i could access the 'secret' fuel mix algorithms through the AC interface.
Sony has no right to do what they did, Geohot had EVERY right to do what he did. The ONLY point of contention is, was he allowed to talk about it. (he cant now as he signed his ability to do so away)
The facts are I have a right to modify my hardware at will, I may not have the right to tell others about it. Your statement is disingenuous.
If I invent the world's best set of lockpicks, am I at fault for people using them? If I invent a gun that vaporizes people instantly, am i responsible for when another man uses that knowledge?

You do realize the average smartphone costs $500+ with no contract right?
Same here. Dont know what I'm gonna do when Uncharted 3 comes out since im not updating the firmware on my Fat 60 GB beyond 3.41.
You dont want a PC port from Rockstar. I am JUST NOW getting GTA IV to run at decent levels on an i5k and a 570 HD GTX
Both companies produce software and hardware.
Because there are no other fully integrated vendors that have significantly less issues across the entire spectrum of business computing.

Steve, is that you?

Go away until you can understand context and meaning in casual conversation. You KNEW what he meant but you decided to be obtuse anyways. Why?
Where does Bionic end and Cyborg begin?
They get sued into oblivion by the mother of all class action lawsuits. Not even Sony could successfully defend against that.

I really liked Mass Effect's approach of basically what amounts to grains of sand as bullets moving at near light speed.

Do you even think before you post? 40k-60k on tuition and you cant figure out why $250 extra is expensive?

Patents are not proof of creation, they are proof of government granted monopoly, nothing more. Logic fail.

I would consider that capitalism.

Do you even know who Vinton Cerf is?
