Make sure to get a laptop built with ease of HDD removal in mind. Most business oriented laptops are built this way. I usually have a backup HDD (2nd) with a fresh install of windows and some basic apps.
If your laptop is subject to search and seizure, the less data on it the better.

Yes it is..... When I saw a Tivo in action for the first time, I INSTANTLY understood how it worked, and it was very obvious. Its an extension and improvement of the VCR, not much more than using up to date componentry.

Who keeps critical data on their workstation? All my critical data automatically backs up to the NAS/SAN. And if anyone dares say that the avg user doesnt have access to that , well there is no excuse for them NOT to have something along those lines if the data is really critical.

I STRONGLY disagree. Strike out what you feel needs be struck and resubmit for negotiation. THis is standard practice for me. Dont sign something and hope the law will back you later.
Are you religious? How about I offer you a million to never attend any type of worship service again. This is what they are telling him. HE obviously believes in open source, so they are telling him basically you cant contribute to that project anymore, you cant associate with the project, and watch your every (open source) step from now on casue we will sue you for stepping out of the box we put you in.
Getting his in the end for posessing a gun and some recreational drugs? What punishment does that justify? He didnt do any illegal ACTIONS, merely posession which is absurd to begin with. He harmed no other human being in the process, that we know of. Possesing drugs and a gun is not inherently evil.
Of course I would pull over even if it was jsut 2 cars, im a very considerate driver. However, I make no adjustments for jerks in the carpool lane who think that becasue its the leftmost lane that it should travel at 90 MPH. My right foot tends to automatically start lifting itself from teh accelerator when that happens. Quite an odd phenomenon i must say.:)

THats funny, i completely understood a Tivo the instant i heard about one. Its a Tuner with a hard drive, certainly NOT a leap of genius.
Digitized locally is irrelvant as is where the ring buffer is stored is too, considering patents are METHODS, not specific implementations.
You are telling me it would be a giant leap of lateral thinking to add a little memory into a VCR to make a buffer that stores on-the-fly video?
My beyond TV server is MILES ahead of TivO and MS media center in functionality, performance, choice and price.
