What part of 'i dont want it associated with my account in any way do you not understand?'. If I want the U2 album i will get it. Dont add it top my account. (this isnt unique to apple btw, Steam adds things to the library from time to time).
I bought A full suite of Apple gear at the beginning of the ipad 2 era (mac mini, ipad 2, iphone 4s) to properly evaluate their ecosystem ( as part of my job). I am not going ot give up my apple gear that I have in place, but im not going to buy any more either. I use mostly my NAS and its attendant apps over VPN for all my media needs. Im not outraged, im disappointed that Apple would be so incredibly blind that this would be an issue. It jsut reinforces my decision to move over to devices and ecosystems i have much more direct control over.
No its not overblown. The issue at hand is that Apple thinks it can alter people's libraries at a whim. I dont WANT U2 in my collection at all. I have nothing against them, but i hate the fact that it was pushed into my face and into my library. I want my library to be composed of material I choose, not apple.
If I came over and starting just randomly putting books into your bookshelves that publishers paid me to do without asking you, wouldnt you rightfully be a bit upset about it?
The most troubling part here is that Apple thinks it can inject stuff into my curated libraries without asking. This is the end result of blending the player and the store.
NO its not. Offline use will ALWAYS be important. Unless you get ISPs to offer 5 sigma SLAs to home consumers as a standard part of service, offline modes will remain important.
There is a computing principle called GIGO, Garbage In, Garbage Out. It applies to humans as well. What you put in your head shapes who you are. I carefully choose what goes into my head.
Hasnt happened to me, but yes i would bitch about that too. Dont put stuff in MY library that i didnt ask for. This is a MAJOR Information Age problem that needs to be stopped now. Offer it to me for free, just dont insert it into my library without my permission.
It should have never been added to my personal library in the first place. THAT is the issue, something being placed into my library that i did not ask for. Its a huge 'fuck you' to the users.
I want my libraries to contain stuff I CHOOSE, not stuff chosen for me. This a going to become an ever increasing problem as companies like Apple want the store and player blended so you always have opportunity to buy something.
This is a very simplistic view of the future we are facing. I store a huge chunk of my mind on the web, based on einsteins quotes on facts and books. I dont like being cut off from that. I dont get notifications and tweets and emails all day. I have email on my phone, but its set to pull not push so i get email when i want it. Not everything is an addiction. We are at ubiquitous, cheap networking/computing at the dawn of an Information Age. The future is now.
A war might wipe out some tech, but not the ideas we gained from it. We would INSTANTLY start rebuilding packetized communications systems, which in itself is a major step. It would be a huge step back, but not a reset.
I have lived off the land, hunted prey, grown crops and i have skittered across electric dreams on fertile fields of internet resources. No place was more real than any other and all were interesting places for a human to dwell.
It CAN be an interactive distraction, it does not have to be. You can add all sorts of control systems to devices today. Custom knobs that you can operate on feel alone, jsut like standard car controls. Integration and some simple engineering removes most of your arguments. You lack vision, stop trying to sell us this idea, its crap.
While what you are saying is true with your very nice phrasing, the fact is the quantity and speed of information social media allows takes on a quality all its own. The volume makes it revolutionary, not just evolutionary.
My Moto G LTE, Nexus 7 and HP Slate HD 7 are all unsupported. Why is it even possible for them to choose what devices the.apk can be downloaded to? Why does Google allow that ridiculous amount of granular control? Why did we give up so much control? for MOVIES????/ seriously?
This is a major over-reach. We should stop at GPS ankle bracelets. If we keep going, pretty soon people will have convicts wired up for everything and all sense of Liberty is lost.
The upload speed is criminal. If they want to keep it at 4 Mbps, at least force them to make it symmetrical. However, I disagree 4 is sufficient. 100 mbps symmetrical should be the ground floor we shoot for.
ITs called leveling or stepping or some shit like that. Its to coax you to step up to the next level at an increased profit margin.

Same reason Blizzard never put servers there. The Australian Telcos have the continent by the balls, no one wants to do business there.

Some people take curating their libraries much more seriously than you do. I choose what goes into my media libraries, not Apple.

WE are a nation of both laws and feelings. Passion changes law every single day. You would be foolish to ignore the human aspect of law.

SMS is data and can run completely automated. It isnt just a human comm system.

They should have said no. This is what i meant by 'we gave up this control for movies'....

Because it wont end with parolees.....

No SD slot .....I was going ot get one, even at double the price of a SanDisk player, but Sony still hasnt figured it out yet.

Good call on the multiple recording. We are about 5 years out from having trivial video transform and stacking just like photos now.
Or the airline should be forced to accept the fact that people come in many shapes and sizes and plan accordingly.
