No, Linux is not a trademark. The Linux kernel is freely distributed and is not associated with any business. A trademark is a name used by a business to distinguish their product that has protection under copyright law. e.g. Windows Vista is a trademark of Microsoft, no one can use the name Windows Vista to describe a product that they are selling because that name has protection under copyright law.
The real issue here isn't what features M$ should add to Windows 7, but what features they're promising that will make it to the final version. I'm guessing, not so many.
Naturally, if a person is good at that profession, he will make as many laws as possible.
I dissagree. Being competent as a lawmaker does not mean making more laws. Rather, it means making a small number of robust, adaptive, relevant laws. Competency can be measured in both the quantity of work and the quality of work. In this case, we need a government that does better quality of work, rather than the poorly implemented, slipshod hacks that our government seems to be secreting profusely.
What I mean is: We don't need smaller government, a smaller government would have even more trouble handling everything. What we need is a smaller AND more efficient government.
Think about it, most IE users aren't the kind to pay attention to what version of software they have. Many people I've spoken to don't even understand that there's an actual application that you launch when you browse the internet. They just see it as "the internet". They aren't aware that their browser needs an upgrade, and they certainly wouldn't know how to actually install it.
Firefox users, on the other hand, tend to be more computer savvy. They are the kind who pay attention to tech news, and most likely they've known about Firefox 3 since before it came out.
And then the government will be designing robotic snakes to put in our navels, in order to track us.
"You're going to help us, whether you want to or not."
The sound weapon being sold may be non-lethal, but who is to say they won't RE the device and make lethal sound weapons. Sound can kill. Yes, but a lethal weapon that uses sound would have to consume an extremely large amount of power to be lethal, and since the intensity of the sound decreases as the square of the distance, it would really only be useful as a close combat weapon. There are much more efficient ways to kill, even if you want to kill "cleanly".
OSS sucks. It relies solely on the benevolence of others to develop it. If people don't get paid to write software, they're not going to care whether people buy it. If the software sucks, oh well, they're still not making anything.
Thats only true, however, in a monopolisticly competitive or oligopoly market. Which the software industry isn't. If Microsoft had some actual competition in the OS market, Windows would probably be ten times better than what it is today. Just look at what happened in the web browser area, before Firefox gained popularity, IE hadn't been updated in over a year. Once there was some competition, though, Microsoft had to start improving.
What we really need is not OSS, but some more commercial software companies to inspire competition and innovation in Microsoft. Apple at least has come up the rails lately, but we still need more.
The Lobbies won't allow it. If taxes go up, less people will be buying music, and since the demand for music/movies/games is (I'm guessing) fairly elastic, profits will go down.
Do you think that Apple, Microsoft, and the RIAA are going to support a bill that means they make less money? Hell no!
Please give me a list of the really "smart" ones, the ones based on truth and integrity, rather than lies, superstition and greed. Buddhism. Most other religions have had wars fought for their sake. The leaders of most other religions live very affluently, Buddhist leaders live humbly with no material possessions, eating rice and beans for their meals. Buddhism does not worship any deity. It's only purpose is a path away from suffering. It has molded over time to not conflict with scientific laws, while still keeping the basis of the religion intact. What other religion does that?

I know that one gives you infinite sexual potency. I've tried it.
I heard that terrorists use [technology] to [intended use of technology]; we should ban [technology] immediately!
Hey guys, I can be original!

Actually, it's an automated message telling you to RTFM.
He actually plans to fly to Washington D.C. and flash the South African ambassador with the Electro-Photo Pigmentizer.
It uses microwaves? Well then it'll probably break if they try to aim it at a tin foil hat.

So you're saying that by using the term "Artificial Intelligence" we're getting free money from lusers? Sounds good to me, let's not change a thing.
I keep telling my parents that video games make me smarter, but they never believe me.
