All generations are pretty non-plussed over NASA op right now and will likely continue that trend until they manage to do something more exciting that what we already accomplished in the 50's and 60's!
Indeed, Child's Play beats the pants off of Jack Thompson's offer to donate 10,000 if someone programmed a video game to his specs... IIR someone did it and he reneged on the deal.
Good grief, iTunes sounds great to anyone not looking at the music through an o-scop and bitching about the degraded waveform. Basically if it is even somewhat close to the CD and better than the radio people like being able to pay.99 ofr one song they want as opposed to $15-17 for a CD with 2 songs they liked. For people with iPod's the DRM isn't an issue either. I bet your family *loves* buying gifts for a bitchy old curmudgeon.
Actually it isn't chumpy. Once you can put something on your resume it isn't even FOUO. Look it up. The government actually uses commercial contractors who recruit *only* cleared folks through open web sites. You sir are an idiot. Fact of clearance holding was cleared for public use long ago. OPSEC would cover people releasing operational details of their work and not the fact of employment or clearance level. Do some research.
Snarky is being generous actually. I actually thought that the/. community would have a lot more useful, technical, and expert material to give in response to an issue that most/.ers claim to care about. Instead he has retards asking about the RIAA's soul and general "suckage". Brilliant. I only wish I had some mod points to distro right now.
2/3rds of the gifts I bought this year were iPods and iTunes music gift cards. I think I am not alone in this and the traffic shutdown on iTunes shows it. Apple has done a great job with their service and I don't mind paying for it. My wife did have to wait until yesterday to buy the rest of her Tunes though since the site was so hammered.
I suppose this sort of thing doesn't really bother me. Frankly oftentimes I even opt-in to this sort of stuff. I like seeing things I am interested in (tech, games, etc) and I am not interested in seeing ads for things that I have zero interest in (donkey calliopes). At least this makes the ad-spam more interesting.
Sometimes that is true but looking back through Slash you will find that many of the "stories" about the release of an Apple phone actually are sparked by the new release of an actual Cisco iPhone product that Apple fanbois leapt upon with the breathless credulity of a Myspacer forwarding to their first chain letter.
The iPhone meme is my favorite here. Despite the fact that Cisco owns the rights to iPhone and has for years even Slashdot has people who simply refuse to believe. I actually own an "iPhone" from and it ain't Apple folks. Never will be either. Its just a Skype phone.
Good grief I have had a TS/SCI clearance and been active inthe intel community for 15 years and I can't think of a single "secret" that I have seen that was actually worth reading. The government doesn't classify embarassing things, they classify ways and means for the most part and that stuff is deadly dull. Read through an electronic threat manual or case notation file for some "thilling" TS material.
Stamp "secret" on a piece of use toilet paper and conspiracy theorists come running to "analyze" the crap stains on it.
The Army is adopting the 15 character password policy as well. Additionally most systms are now auto-generating these passwords instead of allowing the user to create them. This means that for people with multiple accounts they have totally dissimilar 15 character passwords to "remember" and by remember I mean either write down in easy to grab notebooks, or composing emails to themselves listing all their passwords in them. Moronic.
The difference here is that in real life you don't get to play over and over again against irrational opponents to try and beat the percentges. irrational opponents won't even stay within the boundaries of the game for this purpose. They are far more likely to "cheat" and end your participation in the game for good. Your arguments would be correct if we were allowed to "game" against international opponents repeatedly,b ut the fact is that in these games the stakes are high and you don't get "do overs" if you lose badly enough.
I work in a government run operation as a contractor and the documentation rarely gets beyond PowerPoint slides with the basics of each WAN site on them. We are attempting to upgrade this through the ITILS process http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ITIL but have not had much luck so far.
I particularly liked the article on Game Theory in which this gem is put out for all to see.
"...game theory is all about "asking yourself what is the other man going to think I mean to do." Von Neumann's approach assumed that the "other man" was another Von Neumann, another brilliant calculating machine. But if the other man is a regular Joe who didn't grasp all the complexities of the game, Von Neumann's super-sophisticated game theory is not much use."
This misapprehension is what sidelines many "game theorists" from making any useful predictions. Just as in international diplomacy the "other guy" is not always intelligent, reasonable, or even sane!
I don't really care if the guy made the whole thing up or not. Just reading the whole shebang along with the comments makes me chuckle. Hell if it is a hoax it is actually *more* funny.

Now Wow addicts will have to either work for their gold or do something else! The Horror!

Yes, they rule *your* life and all others like you. Think about it.

No, spam poesy wins out over mindless first posting.

White dolphin tastes just like chicken....
I particularly enjoy how *one* mammal fossil would somehow constitute "competetion" for all the birds there.

Indeed this reeks of a developer trying to market an unfinished and unrefined "product" that no one actually needs just yet.
