  1. Trash Collectors on NASA's Odds For Iridium De-Orbit Casualties · · Score: 1

Maybe this should be a sign to NASA or someone that a concerted space junk pickup program should be initiated. Someone needs to take the initiative here. I was looking at a map of where man made objects are orbiting, and they were extremely concentrated around the equator. I know that's still a big circle, but eventually this will become a problem. Sure the space shuttle could pick these things up and bring them home, but isn't there an easy way to break them up into smaller pieces and deorbot them without launching and relaunching the vehicle that does this? Maybe an orbiting arm that can rip old satelites apart and drop the pieces one at a time. Any ideas?

  2. Some missing keys on Stowaway on PDA Keyboards Compared · · Score: 1

I've had a stowaway for about 2 months now and love it. (Actually mine is for the Palm, and appears to be distributed by Palm Inc.) There are a couple of things that I have noticed about it that get in the way. The fact that it bends in the middle is annyoing. That combined with the fragile docking layout makes it next to impossible to type on your lap. But, put a book in your lap and you're good to go. The second thing that gets me is the lack of some important keys. There is no home or end key which can get very frustrating. You can scroll around word-at-a-time with this one though, just by using the CTRL key. The final thing that gets in the way of a total 5 start rating is that one of the programs I use all of the time, Brain Forest, doesn't have all of it's commands fully supported, especially cmd-1 which is mapped to something else on the keyboard. All and all, I love it. Especially since I got mine for $20 when Office Depot miss printed their add.

Wireless is perfect for connecting many disparate users with little infrastructure. There are very few companies that have targeted us. The only bright spot I see is that the Satelite TV companies are getting in to it. It's a little more than DSL or cabel, but it's fast. SIGN ME UP!!

What's interesting here is that inadverently, GWB's case has transferred a significant amount of power from the States to the Federal Government.

What this shows is that the Florida Supreme Court went outside it's legal bounds according to it's own constitution. Would you have the Florida Supreme Court decide it's own guilt? You must appeal to a higher authority. That authority is ultimatly, if not immediatly, the US Supreme Court. It's like your parents saying "Are you sure you want to do that?" When you've clearly overstepped your bounds.

About 70 years ago, Nazi Germany began persecuting their own citizens. No one said anything because it was Germans on Germans. Then Germany took over Austria, then more neighbors. But those countries were mostly German anyway, so no one said anything. Then the Germans took over most of the continent and it took 5 years to get them out of power. Maybe it does make sense to take an active interest in the internal laws of other countries.

Corporate bosses need a normal release, and no one is going to commit to a beta version of anything.
Yes there are bugs. Guess what, every software is released with bugs, usually documented and sometimes fixed bugs. But it's a matter of drawing a line. The difference between a good artist and a great artist, is that the great ones know when to stop. Release the damn browser and lets get it out there then have the fixes in the inevitable 6.1 release.

  14. PHB Article on 4 Web Scripting Languages Compared · · Score: 1

This is definetly a PHB article. High on opinions, and low on details. I've used CF alot, and think it's a great language. It actually does have a lot of functionality, and the custom tags let you create anything you want. I haven't used JSP, but others at my company seem to think that it's really where it's at. ASP is definetly not a good tool. Compared to the other languages, it has been shoehorned into being a web based language. It takes much more code, and it is harder to understand what that code is doing. I've just started using PHP, but I see a lot of similarities between it and CF, and think that it will be a contendor. Don't flame me on this, but the disadvantage of Perl is that you have to do all of the prints and subroutine calls. With the other langugaes, you intersperse the code in with your HTML and that allows you to develop and alter the pages more quickly. I wonder if any of these languages will come out on top, or if we'll be having this discussion again in 3 years.
