Not to a jerk, but the problem is that you are in the theater at all. I myself sometimes fall prey to giving money to people who will use it against me (MPAA, RIAA) but whenever I can I try to remind myself and others of the ills of even doing business with these bastards
Its not meant as a replacement computer, I personally find it slighly slower than say a Blackberry, but that is a more than worthwhile trade off when you consider how much screen real estate is gained. Frankly my typing speed is at most 10-15% slower, and again I don't write books with the thing.
Worked well for the iPod... The 3g iPod (2003) was easily the worst iPod Apple ever made becouse it had 4 buttons and really only needed one. Granted the 1G and 2G also had multiple but they were located on the wheel which, while a pain was far better). Oddly enough once Apple went one button the iPod took off. Lets not forget that the iPhone really has quite a few physical inputs- the hold switch, the volume control and the various sensors (not sure if they count). I'm curious what key botton you think is missing? In almost 2 years I have yet to find an answer. Long before the iPod was around I had a Nomad- the overcomplicated interface was why they didn't storm the world. Even for the tech savvy simplicity is good when the difference is 5 seconds to find a song vs. 15. It adds up.
I think you are right that touch may not be the best input for all devices. But I can tell you that the iPhone is a great example of touch done right. I cannot imagine it without gestures ect. The Macbook Pro gestures are good too and highly useful. But I agree that the concept of dealing with touch on a 30 in monitor or een a netbook is hardly attractive. Touch has its place, and few companies seem to understand this.
Do you have similar problems with other 480P sources or just the Wii? I find the 480p of the Wii to be better than the X-Box 1 or GC, and certainly better than the PS2 which doesn't do 480p. Also anytime a TV is hurting my eyes, it seems to have to do with sitting too close. I cant think of low rez video ever doing that, and I have watched lots of streaming, and VHS in my life.
Wait you mean the PS360 have innovative motion controls and new types of games, not just loads of FPS's that haven't changed since the mid 90's except for the overly shinny plastic look of everything? Wow man, I want one of them. If you don't think that the next gen every machine will be a Wii knockoff you are nuts. When the Wii outsells the others COMBINED you can see which machine has really captured the imagination of gamers and non gamers alike. If you are satisfied with subpar control straight out of 1998 fine, but some of us want innovation.
Did you get the composite cables? 480p is just fine for me on a similar rig. Unless you mistakenly bought a Wii thinking it would output 360 graphics, I don't see what the problem is. Its pretty clearly not HD.
Apple and MS have had file previews since Mac OS 1 and Windows 1 back in the 80's. In fact I think the Apple Lisa OS may have been the first- at least for home users.
Buying used indirectly helps sell new books by taking the cheaper used edition off the shelf causing future purchasers to buy a new copy. I often will check the used bin, but if what I want isn't there I move to the new shelf.
I think that is fair, and it seems to me like the library model- try it out for free but you don't get to keep it. If you like it then buy it and you have a copy for whenever you want. I see what you are saying but he could just as easily gone to the bookstore and read it, or borrowed it from someone. To be clear, you're saying that we should ban all libraries?
Um dude, shut up. Have you ever even used an iPhone 3G? Once it locates you it puts a little dot which stays updated just like the G1. I get that you are an Apple hater, but for heavens sake don't just make shit up.
Can we just try the guy as a traitor and let him get his sentence already? I mean even if he had nothing to do with this, the man has sold his countrymen out time and time again. He is a fecal smear on the face of our nation, let the people decide his fate.
I didn't say OSS, I said "open" in which I meant it will play my media of many formats, OGG included, works well with iTunes, WMP or Real is updated to support new formats and programs often. I was if you missed it making a comparison to my ATV, which while slick is certainly more closed off than Roku supporting a few handpicked formats and one media player. Unlike many companies Roku survives of interoperability because they don't own an OS or a popular desktop media player. Perhaps I should have been more clear, but shill I am not.
Your just jealous because you can't output HDMI and lack my awesome style. Call me when you can stream media over wireless G or buy DRM music off iTunes. Geez the never of some media devices!
As an AppleTV I must say I really admire Roku. They seem to understand hardware and software in a way few manufacturers do. They work really hard on compatibility with so many formats and products, its really great. I love my AppleTV as well, and it does some things better, but to get the openess of Roku it must be seriously hacked. Roku is the one pushing this segment forward.
I have had far more trouble getting Windows apps to run in Vista, than I had with Classic, which literally just ran a copy of OS 9 at the same time, or Rosetta, which is great for even emulating recent PPC games. I wasn't really around for the 68k -> PPC transition so I can't comment on that one. Classic broke system extensions and that was pretty much it, Rosetta seems to work with anything and is far more seamless than classic since it runs without having to boot up.
I would call Apple's share of the market widespread, especially when we hear its home use is in the 20% range. Also clearly the poster meant widespread among Apple users. You are also dead wrong in advocating MS stay in the mud, many of the problems with Windows in the last few years have been due to being afraid of moving forward. Security is a great example, MS only improved the situation by a major overhaul, which did break some apps. Yes it was more than worth it. And if you think biz would drop MS if an app or two needed an update, then you surely do not understand how entrenched MS is.
I will second this. The iPhone pre App Store was a joke for the power user/ biz type. Not anymore, with FTP clients, terminal apps, VNC, VOIP, and Exchange support, the iPhone has become at least as good as the best biz phone, with the possible exception of its delicate hardware and inclusion of camera. The apps make any phone and right now Apple has a serious lead.
A few months back I would have never bought conspiracy theory that Psystar was mearly a front for other companies who wanted to bundle OS X (think SCO - MS) but with their tenacity and resources I am starting to wonder who Psystar really is. Oddly even Apple has asserted this claim in court docs. Once this is over we will surely hear some interesting stories.

I was referring to the classic iPods like the 1-5G ones, or the Nano.

Wait, I thought MS was always adjusting themselves to look/feel/work like Apple products. If Apple copies MS and MS copies Apple.... I need a drink!
