uhhhh.... maybe because I pay for those roads they are public - right douche bag? Seriously it might not be a technical right but any person who has not abused it should be able to drive. What a jerk.
In other news on/.: a game maker is making a game about nazis gas chambers: a simulator of people choking to death and a second game about kidnapping and raping people. When confronted on the controversy of it's games, the game maker said: "it is freedom of speech, it gives me the license to do whatever i want".
Welcome to the downside of free speech. Deal with it. Seriously, if you don't like it - don't view it - but the opinion that you should be able to categorize and then subdue some content based on your fragile sensibilities is not only fascist, but downright ignorant. Free speech comes with the requirement that people can self regulate what they choose to consume. I think there are and should be sensible limits on everything. We arrest people who do immoral things like molesting children or killing people. Why should we not be able to assert that this is also wrong. These people are still alive, it is still very real to them and many others. There is a line- a game about shooting the (current) president in the head would seem a perfect example.
I'm very free speech but causing distress to living-victims to make notoriety for ones self is sick and wrong and every facet of society should understand this.
Nice, but how many of these titles will end up being vaporware? I mean S.T.A.L.K.E.R has been up and coming for like 4 years! I think its giving Duke a run for his money.
Any real attempt to consolidate these sites will see about as much luck as the DOJ saw getting AIM fully interoperable with AOL provided code. Just like AOL these sites are all ads. If they consolidate to one page or site- bang! There goes their revenue.
Yay now when I'm looking at the moon through the 'ole telescope with the kids I also get the latest deals from Amazon, Ebay, and whoever else uses their ad system.
There are also hacks out there that allow people to alter the Ipods interface. I remember back when the Ipod Photo came out that I changed the charging screen to a Gonzo fist. Not officially supported like on the Zune but easy to do and safe. Google it for more info.
You really can't compare the Zune vs. 2001 iPod sales. The market is dramatically bigger. I agree its hard to say for sure but it doesn't look good for the Zune considering its huge hype and advertising. Unless the userbase increases quickly the Wifi feature will be a moot point as well which could really burn these early adopters.
This should surprise no one. It was all the MS fanboys who rushed out on day one to by Daddy Gates' brown Zune. Its like the Apple- Steve dynamic. I just never got the Zune and its media inflation. Wow a rebranded Gigabeat with one poorly implemented tacked on feature (Wifi) and a closed system modeled after Apple. All this for the price of the already established market leader? Sign me up!
I think technology is alot like drugs in this instance. Most of the "experts" in the area are paid shills working for a group with vested interests. With pot for instance there is the governemnt data which shows alot of negatives. On the other hand there are the advocacy groups who have data which shows the exact opposite. To me the job of a paper like the NYT is not find the unbiased experts, (who frankly don't exist) but instead to be fair and balanced.
This EVD concept sounds cool at I like the fact that it is royalty free. At the same time I'm weary of anything proposed by such a huge human rights abuser. I also wonder if the loss of chinease DVD market will affect our cheap 20$ Wal-Mart DVD players?
The Wii was only out there for a couple weeks of the time measured. This sounds to me like an attempt to make the 360 look better in Japan. Fact is its doing terrible. Latest news shows that total 360 shipments are less in the last year than the Wii or PS3 have amounted in their few weeks. Glad the game is doing well as it looks cool. But this kinda stuff just further shows how despirate they are to make it look like they arnt doing so poorly.
